~*~*~*~*Chapter 9~*~*~*~*
(The Kazekage)
News of the missing Konoha nin had reached the gates of Sunagakure within days.Rumours of Naruto's disappearance spread like wild fire throughout the streets, people assuming the blonde had just left his village having realized just how powerful he was without them, more rumours circulated more, other people offering a far fetched tale of how Naruto had escaped Konoha's grasp and ran away to elope with his long lost friend Sasuke.
Every story had a new theory, every person had a new suspicion, and soon Gaara had found himself depressed, believing Naruto had run off to be with Sasuke, believing the blonde nin was gone for ever, to be willingly used as a tool for evil.
For a month Temari and Kankuro had noticed the slight mood change in their normally emotionless younger brother, it was a month that had the elder sand siblings on edge, as they watched their brother fall deeper and deeper into a dark depression.
Often they would find the young Kazekage seated upon the rooftops, staring out towards the desert, as if waiting for the arrival of someone.
And that someone they both knew was the missing blonde.
A month of watching their brother's depression worsen day after day, a month of fighting with the younger to spend less time focusing on the traitorous blonde, and more time trying to get himself better, it was a daily fight with Gaara, it was a daily routine that the red haired man refused to give up.
Despite their continuous worried shouts, he continued to stare out towards the desert hoping to see any sign of the blonde, hoping that Naruto would come to him, needing him, wanting him.
It was a dark month in Suna, it was a long month.
When news arrived from Konoha, Naruto's disappearance was not an act of a traitorous escape, but the act of a violent kidnapping.
After the dark month of depression had ended, and news of Naruto's kidnapping and imprisonment had reached Gaara, it was a whole new fight for the elder siblings to control the man, to try and keep him in the village, to run the village of Sunagakure as their Kazekage.
Gaara's mind was set on helping his friend, the one person who more then once had risked his own life for the sand nin, he felt an over powering urge to find Naruto, to save him, to protect him.
And he hadn't fully understood what his feelings were, he hadn't understood what the strong connection to the blonde nin actually was.
Though he could not physically leave Sunagakure to search for the blonde, he had sent countless nin to search in secret, to follow the Konoha nin in tracking the blonde, and hopefully find and bring Naruto back to Suna for a more powerful protection then what Konoha could offer.
A week had gone past, and the longer it took for word of Naruto's safety, the more on edge Gaara had become.
He had begun to snap at every small thing, he had no patience for anything, or anyone, his temper had begun to get out of control, though he had made sure to never harm any of his villagers or siblings, he had found himself cursing at the failures of finding any traces of Naruto.
Two weeks had past, and still no word on Naruto's where-a-bouts, and soon people had found them selves shying away from the aggravated Kazekage.
Returning nin would submit their reports to either of the elder sand siblings, too frightened to give Gaara news of their failure to find Naruto.
Neither Kankuro nor Temari could blame the nin, Gaara had become increasingly agitated, only seeming to calm down when either Temari or Kankuro entered the office.
Three weeks, and Suna began to suspect they were going to hell, with the way the Kazekage had begun to act, by now neither Temari or Kankuro would enter his office, far too fearful of the now seemingly violent man.
Gaara wanted to find Naruto, to protect him.
The same thing the blonde had done years before....
More then once.
By the end of the third week it was as if the sun would never shine for the young Kazekage.
Without Naruto, the sun would never exist in Gaara's small world, the sun was by this point stolen, captured, and hidden away.
The door slamming against the wall had pulled Gaara's mind from his train of thought, thoughts of only Naruto, and his hopeful well being.
Green eyes stared towards the young raven haired male in the door way.
The look of over whelming victory upon the teen's face had given Gaara the answer he was desperately looking for; Naruto was found, his location was known
“Where is he?!”
“Right now Naruto is travelling with nin from his village back towards Konoha” Gaara pulled himself from his seat, stepping closer to the raven haired teen, as if the boy himself was god in human form
“Where are they located?” The boy stared towards his Kazekage blankly for a moment, before frowning and turning his grey-blue eyes towards the window
“North-west, nearing the village of Ishigakure, they are being followed by sound” Gaara knew the boys information was being sent back to him by his watch birds, a rare and nearly impossible 'hiden' taught down to only the first born son's of the Gamakuza clan.
He left no more time for any more words, he knew of Naruto's location, and the predicament the blonde and his 'hero' had found them selves in.
As he stepped down the halls of the tower, he ignored the worried voices of his siblings questioning him, wondering where he was going.
He ignored them, if he told them where he was going, and what he was planning to do, they would have stopped him, they would have used something to restrain him from walking into a field of enemy, walking into what could have been a trap.
And all for what? One person?
But Naruto wasn't just 'one person' he was a special person, someone who held a place closer to Gaara's heart, a place much closer then Gaara's own siblings had access to.
And without a word, he was gone, racing from his village, across the sands.
North-west, towards Ishigakure, towards the location given to him by the young bird master.
He ran as fast as his legs could take him, pushing his chakra as hard as it would go, his mind only on finding and protecting Naruto.
If what the young Gamakuza son had said to him, sound was fast approaching Naruto's where-a-bouts, and Gaara would be damned if he allowed the blonde to be recaptured, and held prisoner once again.
What seemed like hours had gone by, with his speed never dying down, though he was getting tired, though he felt his energy running low, he couldn't stop himself, not that he would have wanted to, something was pulling him, something was calling to him.
Something bad was happening.
The sound of metal clashing against metal, the over whelming stench of blood filled the air, the scene before Gaara shocked him.
He had recognized the silver haired nin, it wasn't hard, Kakashi was the famous copy-nin of Konoha, and one of Naruto's 'special' people, yet he stood, wounds dripping with blood, his breath uneven and hard, his eyes drooping in exhaustion.
The fight was not ending well for him, and though he had rid himself of one of the enemy, the other two still stood close by, waiting for the copy-nin to fall, waiting for their chance to steal the blonde back for their master.
He could see Kakashi would not last much longer, hell Gaara was unsure what was keeping the man on his feet at this point.
Kakashi's chakra was dwindled down to nothing by this point.
Without a thought he pulled a kunai free from his pouch, shooting towards the smaller of the two enemy left.
He watched as both Kakashi and the enemy turned towards him, both staring in shock, and soon dread began to engulf the enemy, he was alone, he was out numbered, and his teammates dead, killed by the hands of the weakened copy-nin, and now by the hands of the leader of Sunagakure.
He knew he stood no chance, there was no way he could beat the two powerful nin alone, so he did the only thing he could think of, he dropped his weapons, and in a poof of smoke he disappeared.
Teal green eyes turned towards the silver haired copy-nin upon the ground, mismatched black and red eyes stared back towards Gaara, in shock, confusion, and a silent thanks.
Gaara turned his attention towards the partly nude blonde laying behind the silver haired man, he noted the woulds upon the blonde's body, his legs covered in the darkening purple and blue bruises, the bruising upon his cheek, the discoloured love bites along the blonde shoulder and neck.
It took all of Gaara's self restraint not to hunt down the man responsible for the assault upon the blonde, though he knew as soon as he found out whom had caused these injuries upon his precious person, he was going to torture and kill the bastard.
Kakashi watched as the sand nin stared towards Naruto, relief, yet anger filling those teal green eyes, and Kakashi understood why, he had the same feelings running through him the moment he saw just how bad off Naruto was, he had wanted to hunt down and kill anyone and everyone responsible for Naruto's pain, for his suffering.
In a moment Gaara was in front of him, staring back towards the blonde, concern in his eyes, worried for Naruto's physical, and mental health
“Follow me back to Sunagakure, you will stay there until you are of full health” Kakashi allowed himself to nod, and turned around towards Naruto, he felt the Kazekage's hand upon his shoulder, stopping him
“I will carry him, you are already too weak, we can't have you slowing us down anymore, not with him in your arms” Gaara's words angered him, but he understood, he knew the boy was only looking out for Naruto's best interests, and so far Kakashi's 'genius' ideas to take Naruto alone had seemed to fail miserably.
So he stepped back, and watched as Gaara carefully knelt down, lifting the underweight blonde up effortlessly, Kakashi saw the concern in those teal greens intensify, Naruto was sick, dangerously underweight, and in need of a medic nin.
And in desperate need to figure out why Kyuubi was no longer healing him
“Let's go” Kakashi's dry voice mumbled softly, he turned on his heels picking up a few stray kunai before darting off into the trees, following closely behind the Kazekage, and the sickly blonde within his arms.
