Chapter 10
Konoha’s Shinobi, School’s Begun
Raido
and Genma sat around the kitchen table and flipped through their new students’
profiles, coming up with a game plan for the morning.
“I
hate teaching,” Genma complained.
“That
is why in the last 15 years you’ve managed to have exactly 2 teams of Genin,”
Raido pointed out hiding behind his folders when Genma spat his senbon at him.
Genma
snorted, “Oh yeah this from the man who managed to only have one team in the
same amount of time? I don’t see where you have room to point fingers.”
“I
didn’t point finger I just pointed out that you’ve only had 2 teams that’s
hardly a strain ever on someone who dislikes the brats, you simply make your
test difficult to pass, same as usual,” Raido pointed out reasonably.
“Meh,” Genma commented as he threw down his profiles, “the
only problem is that they’d probably pass two of them are from the top 5 slots
the other is strong in taijutsu already. They don’t deserve to fail, at least
not on paper I’ll see if they are field ready, if they can’t get past a basic
situation tolerably
while working together then they go back to the academy for next
time the teams are formed. What about yours?”
“Mmm I think I’m going to pass them if they are decent off
paper. I have one from the top and two from the middle, an ordinary looking
girl, two fine boned beauties one girl one boy. The
plain one holds the top place, with the other two fitting in the top third. If
they are all that intelligent then they must have some problems to work out. It
they can prove basic teamwork and pass the test then they are sure to get
through anything reasonable that I manage to set up then they’ll show good
potential.” Raido grinned showing his opinion of reasonable.
Yuki
just glanced at the two Jounin and studied the kanji, practicing them on the
scroll that Shikamaru had given him. He was half way through the dictionary,
stopping from time to time to create short passages for Genma to correct, which
occasionally showed errors in Genma’s memory when he came up against kanji he
either didn’t know or had forgotten and occasionally misspelled, which caused
Raido to poke fun at him which Genma took good naturedly.
Genma
had to testing Yuki’s memory, asking him random questions which they’d seen the
answers to earlier in the day, inevitably, with the rare occasion that it was
something small and Yuki had been looking the other way when it happened, he
always got it right.
“How’s
your neck?” Genma asked him as he saw Yuki reach to rub his neck for the third
time in the last two minutes.
“What?
Ah fine, just fine. It just feels weird not to have any foreign materials
hampering my body’s functioning,” Yuki answered more or less truthfully.
“In
the morning you’re going to work at the hospital why don’t you go to sleep early?
Or if all your wounds have healed why don’t you take a
bath? Those are always relaxing. It’s been a long day,” Raido commented.
“I
think I’ll take a bath Raido-sempai, it sounds nice I’ve never had one before,”
Yuki commented.
“I’ll
show you how to use it,” Genma said getting up, he was
rolling his senbon in his teeth, annoyed at the
profiles. “First you take a quick shower so that you body is clean and then you
just soak until you’re all nice and warm. This one is big enough for a few
people, usually there is only room for one unless your
at a public bath or hot springs.”
Genma
proceeded Yuki into the bathroom and ran the bath,
Yuki got his towel and new pyjamas from his room they were white with green
leaf symbols on them, Raido had picked them up when he’d gotten the sheets.
Yuki thought they were cute but would never admit it.
Yuki
showered washing the braids and rinsing them, they’d last a few days longer
just like Kurenai-sempai said. Yuki soaped his body
touching himself impersonally, the body was just a container or tool, it’d
never meant anything particular to Yuki, not since he learned that it wasn’t
his to control, Yuki rinsed off the last of the soap and stepped into the
bathtub, the water was unbelievably hot, he felt like he was a tea bag, seeping.
It belongs to me. Yuki thought to himself raising his arm up to be looked at, it didn’t
look any different but it did, the ropy muscles were bigger while there wasn’t
much padding he could see that the bones in his wrist didn’t standout quite so
much.
It
belongs to us, Haru said
huffily.
My apologies, to us at least until we get you one of
your own, it is our body, not that you’ve ever been one to take charge of it,
nevertheless you are the reason that I’m still alive, so to us.
That’s
more like it. It’s getting healthy, we have so much energy and you’re wrong it
does look different look at your ribs, or anywhere else you choose the scars
are disappearing, well never forget but we can erase the evidence.
Mm I suppose that you do have a point. What do you
think would be the best way to store up energy? If we’re going to try *that*,
then we’ll need all the energy that we can possibly accumulate.
Er,
we’ll need to visit the library and get some general books about weapons as
well. Or we can ask Raido and Genma I’m sure that they would be willing to tell
us something about weapons, in any case I’d still like to read about them in a
book it’ll have more information about them and perhaps various uses of weapons
so we can decide on the best combination of our skills. I miss my sword.
So do I. It was a great weapon, perfectly balanced
because the lord was a shrimp, who couldn’t decide on anything longer than 15
minutes. Too bad we were appointed otherwise we’d have passed along to someone
else, maybe they’d have been less sadistic.
But
then we wouldn’t have the satisfaction of biting it off practically.
Yuki
could practically hear Haru grinning, I
wonder what you’d look like? You were such a cute little kid. I thought you
were an angel when you appeared come to take me off to heaven.
Well
considering you were practically delirious when I arrived and was hiding, I’m
not surprised, I was looking for the perfect hiding place I didn’t think I’d
have to abandon everything to fit though.
We’ll I’m eternally grateful that you did.
So
am I.
I’m going to call Ko-ni-chan
he was too busy earlier to respond properly.
Okay
I’ll say quiet it does confuse him when we’re both trying to communicate with
him.
***
Hello. Koshin?
Yuki-sama.
Sama?
The
remaining member of the clan say that whatever you
work out they’ll agree to, and just urge that you hurry. I on the other had urge you to be level headed and make good choices, in case
that we’re going to be allies with them me want the situation to be good.
How
many minds can you reach?
Maybe
200 including the very young, I’m assuming that this is all of us that are
left. Very few are older than I handful are in between your age and mine, and
most are very young, I would say from new born to 13 are about 60 percent of
us.
And
are all of them aware of what I’m doing?
No
just those who are capable of hiding their ability of communicating, and those
who wont say anything by accident. About
75 individuals.
Ah,
well the answers were mostly satisfactorily, we’ll be prized for our ability to
heal, so we won’t have to fight if we don’t want to I think, or if we do it’ll
be as a part of a squad, but the healing member is the most protected.
That
sounds acceptable much better compared to hell.
It’s
no hell that’s for certain. Have you been able to contact your Shishou?
No,
never. I take it that you have.
Yes
Banchou-shishou, she was clan head until she retired
then an elder until her death, I’ve only been able to contact her once but she
was able to assess me from once glance. I’ll learn much from her.
Ah,
I have to go I’ll be waiting for word of when you’ll arrive
keep me up to date until then. Bye.
Bye.
***
Well that went well.
Don’t
be sarcastic, it went well enough. That’s all that can be done for now.
True enough. I think I’m turning wrinkly,
it’s time to get out.
Mmm.
Yuki
bid Genma and Raido a good night and feel into a deep dreamless sleep as his
head touched the pillow his fanned around his head.
~~~
Raido
and Genma flipped through the profiles once more before leaving to pickup their
students at the academy, it wasn’t far to the hospital from there. Yuki was
flipping through a weapons magazine, which had the stats for various weapons
and weapons makers, cost all and relevant information. Raido had given it to
Yuki when he’d made vague comments about getting ready for the Chunnin exam.
Ooh
look at that one! I like that one!
Haru dragged his eyes back to a picture of a specialized sword.
But just think of how much stronger our fire attacks
would be with this fan!
Sword!
I want a sword! It’s your fault that I don’t have one anymore. Ask if they are
open! This weapons magazine advertises local wares.
Dansen Uchiwa is so much nicer, it has
both defensive and offensive capabilities.
So
does a sword.
I’ll ask okay shut up about the sword, we’ll have to
see first if we had money to buy weapons, we’ll need kunai, shuriken, senbon, and scrolls, not to mention the pouches to put them
in. We’ll be lucky if we get any sort of specialized weapon at all.
“Genma-sempai
is the weapon supply shop open this early? I thought I
might take a look at what they have.”
“Ah
why don’t you take a look later you should be getting a paid today for you
hospital work.”
“Hm, do you think I will have any money left over after
getting a complete set of pouches, then the kunai, senbon,
shuriken and other basics to fill them?” Yuki enquired they’d have a better
idea of how much those things cost as well as how much he was likely to get
today.
“Hm. Well that depends on
what you want to buy, I could lend you some kunai and shuriken until your next
paycheck. You’ll earn enough at the hospital to pay me back quickly,” Raido
proposed.
“I
was wondering, isn’t my working at the hospital problematic? Won’t medic-nin
and doctors get mad at me? If it’s easier if I do the healing then aren’t they endanger of getting rusty of I become incapacitated,” Yuki
questioned, having thought over the problem.
“Eh, maybe. But you should probably talk that over with the Hokage,
I’m sure that she has a plan to take advantage with out disrupting the system
in place,” Genma said rubbing his neck.
“Mmmm,” Raido commented. “We’ll pick you up at the end of
your shift and take you weapons shopping. See you later.”
The
two Jounin walked him up to the main desk and turned him over to the medical
staff, before poofing away to their students.
~~~
Aside
from the case where the man almost lost his eye this has been an
extraordinarily boring day.
Would you rather go back to the ‘exciting days’ I’d
take a dull and repetitive day over that any day, besides soon we’ll have
training.
Good
point.
“Well
Yuki everything seems to have gone well, I’m sure that you noticed that there
is a large competent medical staff, many of whom have spent the day glaring at
you,” Tsunade said dryly give said medical staff a look. “Never fear we’ll find
the best way to combined your technique with that of
my medical staff. I may mean saving your talents for emergencies and holidays,”
Tsunade concluded with spot of dry wit.
“Mmmm,” Yuki said noncommittally.
“Genma
sent me a note saying that you wanted to get a few weapons, why don’t you
follow me to my office while we talk about that.”
Yuki
trailed her to her office where with a little searching she found a scroll.
“Ah ha!
I knew it had to be somewhere nearby. Here.” Tsunade pressed the scroll into
Yuki’s out stretched hands, “I can’t afford to both feed you and pay you this
week, this is a scroll from a weapons dealer who wanted my
business, go ahead and take what you want or the entire thing, I don’t
use weapons in combat. Tsunade sat in her chair and drank sake.
Yuki
sat on the floor with the scroll and summoned weapon after weapon making three
piles, a discards, maybes, and yeses. Yeses were mostly standard weapons like
kunai, senbon, and shuriken, but he’d found a
gigantic shuriken so he added that too, once he’d found enough of the basics he
set about looking the swords, they just weren’t right, too long too short, to
heavy to be swung effectively, or too light. As for fans they were just too
small.
“Here,”
Tsunade handed him another scroll and put the rejected piles away, “These are
mostly specialized weapons, you might find what you’re
looking for here.”
Yuki
opened up the scroll and started looking again he was about half way through
when he saw something he wanted.
Hey
look at that, I never would have thought to combined the two! A sword connected
to a metal fan by a long length of chain. That could be handy.
Just in case I’m going to get the other sword and
fan to see if it is actually better than individual weapons.
I
have a good feeling about the sword-fan I think it’s going do be a good weapon
for us.
Mmm.
“Decided?
Hm that’s an interesting weapon I’ve never seen it
used before, I look forward to watching you at the exam. I’ll show you how to
store them in the scroll,” Tsunade commented.
“Thank
you, Tsunade-hime,” Yuki bowed low and accepted the
finished scroll.
“I’ve
found a team for you, the third member was killed on a mission a short time
ago, the have bad personalities, they were very attached to their team-mate
they have subsequently run off all the new members I try to add. Still
interested,” Tsunade asked, “Their names are Kaji and
Kaiya, twins. Their squad leader is Sano Tomo, I’ve arranged for you to meet tomorrow morning. If
you want to practice with your weapons this afternoon, there is a place behind
the school, which is temporarily closed for graduation holidays.”
“Yes
I would like to practice. Thank you for finding a team for me, I know my
request was very sudden, I’ll do my best to get along with team Sano.”
“Mozuku
will take you to the training field,” Tsunade said summoning Mozuku and Kotetsu,
she dismissed Yuki and Mozuku.
“Kotetsu
summon Umino Iruka to me,” If he can heal he can destroy with the same power, I’ll need to assign
a Hyuuga to his side whenever he’s working, to double check his work. Does he
have a destructive technique? I know that Kabuto who
defected had a technique to injure people with his medic-nin powers, but Yuki
can regenerate at an exponential rate theoretically. In for a penny in for a
pound, if he’s going to turn against us there is little we can do to stop him.
“Tsunade-sama,”
Iruka postured in front of her desk.
“Stand
up, Iruka, I have a lesson for you to give for me. As
you are undoubtedly aware we have a potential new Shinobi for Konoha, he’s a mixture
of over and under prepared for the Chuunin exam, he’ll
be joining Team Sano temporarily. I’d like you to do a quick review with him
this afternoon, covering tai-, nin-, and genjutsu this afternoon, Henge and so forth, you can find him on the academy grounds
training, I’m sure that you’ve been briefed on the reports, already,” Tsunade
added dryly. No matter how many time she told him to make the other ninjas help
him with the filing work, in the end he usually ended up doing it, it meant he
was familiar will the contents of all but the forbidden files, nevertheless
Iruka had other class on his time.
“Yes,
Hokage-sama,” Iruka replied, with an understated dead
plan. “I’ll do that now. But team Sano? Isn’t that just asking for trouble? I
know that Kaji and Kaiya
have had a hard time, but as my former students, I know that being teamed with
them is like being punished.”
“Mmm, luckily Yuki’s skin
is a polished granite anything that those two come up
with will bounce off and not even leave a mark. He was brought up under the
worse conditions, if anything I believe that it’ll be Kaji
and Kaiya who are changed by this experience. When
you’re done with the training exercise leave me a report on the former gaps,
I’m sure that by the end of the afternoon he’ll have mastered them.”
Mozuku
watched as Yuki did some warm ups, stretching and loosening his muscles to be
more elastic. Yuki opened the scroll and after pulling out a sword
connected to a Dansen uchiwa,
tucked it away. He preformed some armed taijutsu swinging the sword and
blocking imaginary foes with the fan. With a sudden flip of his wrist the Dansen uchiwa cast a breeze
strong enough to make Mozuku rock back on his heels.
Yuki
snapped it shut then gave a running start hoping onto the spread fan flying over
the practice field, pulling on the chain to make turn and buck, before jumping
off before it collided into the ground. He snapped it back shut and used the
chain to swing the sword.
That almost hurts the ears, but the sound of chain
whistling through the air is unmistakable, he’s pretty good, for a first few
run through with a new weapon it’s very good. Makes my fingers itch to
challenge him. Mozuku reached for
his weapons pocket prepared to send a barrage of weapons into the air for Yuki
to fend off.
*Ping*
*Clash* *Ping*
Yuki
turned to face his attacker, as he used the fan to knock the weapons out of the
air, waiting for the next attack.
“Very
good, but you need to make sure that your stance is a bit wider when using the
fan, if you stand so,” the other man copied Yuki’s stance then altered it
slightly, “then it’ll leave you with a better foot position for when you move
to use the sword. Try it.”
With
a questioning look, Yuki did so, Hm, I
see what he means, it improves the stability but doesn’t leave your feet so far
apart that it slows that transition down. How does it feel?
Un, pretty
good. Yuki attempted to fall over
with his feet set like that and found that it was a good over all base stance for the weapons.
“I’m
Seiryoku Yuki, pleased to meet you…?”
“Umino Iruka, that’s my classroom over there,” Iruka could
be misleading when the occasion called for it. “I heard about you, and from a
conversation with Genma learned that until recently you were illiterate, though
not anymore. I thought I’d offer myself for a quick tutoring session I get the
students ready to be Genin. My speciality is recognizing gaps in learning. I
understand that you have plenty of practical experience but little
theoretical.”
“Umino-sensei I’d be honoured if you would assist me,” Yuki
said perfectly serious, an error was an error and must be taken care of.
“Then
we’ll start with a quiz to see what you know then start from what you know.
Sometime it pays not to do everything in a technically perfect way it can be an
advantage, but one should always know the standard technique. I think it would
be best if we start with taijutsu and work out from there. Your taijutsu is
different from that of Konoha and while that is an advantage it will also be
evident to anyone who sees you fighting. If you move like this…”
Yuki
gave Umino all of his attention and managed to do
everything perfect the second time it was shown. A
great show of trust. Yes, it is, I guess that they are hoping to
overwhelm me with gratitude. Well it’s working isn’t it. Yes, but one could argue that
it’s only because we know so little of the world, having not known kindness
makes one susceptible. Nevertheless
their investment will pay off.
Yuki
flipped Umino through the air so that he smashed
against a tree. “Umino-sensei are
you okay? I hadn’t intended for that flip to be so hard,” Yuki apologised
brushing off Umino’s clothing, Umino
just laughed.
“It’s
okay, please call me Iruka and not Umino, it’s clear
that you don’t have much room or improvement there. We’ll move on to ninjutsu,
ninjutsu is a technique which allows…”
Iruka
was enjoying the novelty of having such an attentive talented student, he could see the little gaps getting even smaller
as he literally improved before his eyes. When he got to kawarimi
no Jutsu he learned something interesting.
Yuki
ignored it and spun to where Iruka was hiding, unshipping the sword and cutting
the log in half in a single continuous movement landing in front of Iruka’s hiding spot.
“That
was kawarimi no Jutsu, which was obviously no effect
on you, how could you tell that it wasn’t me?” Iruka asked sort of nervous the
log had been chopped entirely in half.
“My
eyes, I can see chakra,” Yuki pointed at the whirling pools of vivid green.
“See
chakra? Could you expound on the that further?”
“Ah,
I can see the life force of all living things, when you substituted the log I
saw the log the moment you touched it. It’s not without it’s
own energy it’s just different energy from chakra. It’s
part of the medical jutsu that I do, my seeing the chakra potential and
pathways I can mend them quickly directing the optimal amount of chakra and
adjusting it as the system environment alters. I could do it without seeing the
pathways but then it would be a hit and miss, something would get healed but
not necessarily was I intended.”
“Then
you have a doujutsu?” Iruka asked curious, the more
information for the report the better.
“Doujutsu?”
“An
eye technique,” Iruka simplified the language.
“Ah
yes, if that’s what it’s called.”
“Then
which one am I?” Iruka asked performing Bunshin no jutsu.
“You’re
there,” Yuki said pointing, having absolutely no interest in the technique.
*Kage Bunshin no Jutsu* “Which one an I?” Mozuku asked as all the clones adjusted their
glasses simultaneously.
Yuki
squinted at the four different clones, They all possessed chakra systems.
But
some of them are extra bright, they jutsu requires bodies being made, they call up extra chakra to make the jutsu corpral while the original body doesn’t.
But as the source of the chakra is coming from it
glows as well.
Then
figure out which one isn’t like the others.
Yuki
started at Mozuku his eyes swirling.
Did you see him do it?
Yes,
why? Ah I know how better to know the difference than to do it oneself!
Not bad for being a midget.
Technically
I’m not a midget since we share the same body I’m as tall as you are.
Iruka
watched as Yuki tried the seals a few times, changing the order until he
suddenly duplicated, the shadow clones turned in circles each studying the
other.
“I
must say that this is weird,” one clone commented to the other.
“Yes
it is.”
“It
may be handy for training and splitting shifts, or research just imaging how
many books we can read if we all read at once.”
“Haru
is seeping out.”
“He
doesn’t need to seep out he was never gone.”
“Pft,” as one the Yuki’s turned to Mozuku and pointed,
“Fake, fake, fake, real Mozuku.” One Yuki proceeded to slash the clones til they poofed.
“Nicely
impressive,” Iruka complimented him, slightly worried about what this level of
skill would mean, for all the tiny holes in Yuki’s technique over all it would
be a hell of a battle to bring him down, Iruka didn’t every anyone who tried,
he hoped that it would never come to that in Konoha.
“Thanks,”
*poof*.
“So
who is ‘Haru’ and how is he coming out?” Iruka question
giving him a look.
“Ah,
Haru’s my younger cousin, he’s very scholarly and is always trying to get me to
spend my time contemplating the ‘why, how and what ifs’ of life. Unfortunately
my interest in those questions ends at the practical answers. I believe that
Haru would never stop examine the layers of that question.”
What
not going to tell them that I’m right here?
Do you want to be put under even more suspicion?
Cause I don’t.
You
have no sense of science, just think of what sort of situation that would present…
Eep just kidding!
Good I’d hate to have to add you to a library for
good. Yuki told him half jokingly.
“Well
lets move on to genjutsu,” Iruka said, warping the landscape around him into a
desert, where there were suddenly six Irukas and they
were holding Yuki down, as they pulled out a surgical knife, the Irukas warped into a white haired man and boy.
“Well
lets see what happens when we cut you open…” the man
said as the boy leaned forward.
“Yes
Orochimaru-sama, lets see what happens.”
*smash*
“Remind
me that actually seeing that they are forming is a bad idea,” Yuki said after
heaving, he leaned heavily on his fan. He looked up to see Iruka smashed into a
tree and Mozuku who had been standing closer knocked unconscious. “Iruka-sensei!” Yuki went and healed him, it was just a few
cuts, on the surface from the fighting but he’d also managed to crack a few
ribs when he smashed him into the tree. Yuki healed the ribs entirely and sped
the cuts up to half way healed. Then went to see Mozuku who hadn’t smashed into
anything just been tumbled across the grass, unfortunately his arm had been
caught under his body and was bent as an unnatural angle. Yuki straightened it
and fused the ends of the bone together smoothing the growth into the same
thickness as the rest of the bone.
Ugh I’m hungry. I hope they wake up soon.
You
could wake them up.
I’m sure that they’d appreciate that. Yuki commented dryly.
Mm
well at least you wouldn’t have to wait to eat.
True just a little zap of energy…
It
looks like Mozuku is waking up so Iruka should be waking up any moment now.
“Well that was a bad idea,” Iruka commented
dryly.
Yuki
apologised profusely, when the rumbling of his stomach interrupted him.
“Here,”
Mozuku handed him a small brown pill.
Yuki
looked at him curiously taking it but not doing anything with the pill.
“It’s
a food pill, it helps a soldier to regain energy when in the field, people hardly ever use them in the village because they have
a bitter taste.”
Yuki
chewed it and swallowed feeling better.
It doesn’t taste that bad.
It
might be our solution to how to accumulated energy
quickly while also training.
That’s a distinct possibility, and they are small.
Ask
questions about them.
“What
are the draw backs to using soldier pills? Are they expensive? In comparison to
food what is their caloric content?” Yuki asked rapidly, wondering if he could
get more of them somewhere.
Mozuku
laughed and handed him a small pouch, “Here if you like them so much, I’ve been
trying to use these up forever. They are more expensive than an few ingredients
but cheaper than a meal, provided that you don’t uses too many at once they
aren’t especially dangerous in this format, there are two other versions that
the Akamichi use that are dangerous in general. If
you’re thinking of using these to regain energy I’d advise against it, or at least caution you to eat regular meals on the side
of it. They don’t have nearly enough of the other things a growing body needs,
they are generally considered an absolute last resort, unless you’re on a
mission and can not take the time to eat even an
ration bar, but that situation comes seldom.”
Yuki
listened to him and crunched the pills like candy he could feel the energy
being released it was like it was going directly into this blood stream.
“It
seems that I can’t tell you anything to dissuade you,” Mozuku said.
Yuki
remembered his manners and offered one to Iruka who said that he could wait,
but cautioned Yuki to do a lot of training if he was going to be rapidly
gaining chakra otherwise he could become too imbalanced, lots of taijutsu, to
make sure his body was strong.
Yuki
nodded and continued to pop soldier pills like candy.
“So
you obviously have to trick of how to break out of genjutsu, so that won’t be a
problem, I supplied the people and personalities and let your mind choose the
form. It was obviously more effective than any that I could have chosen.”
“Ah,
is that what happened? It’s easy enough to block since I can see the patterns
of chakra that were manipulating me but I figured that I’d give it a chance so
I would know what it did.”
“Well
it seems like you’re ready to take the Chuunin exam, at least if you have
practical battle skills. I don’t envy you your team though,” Iruka commented
with a wry grin, “even if they were my students, they can be real pests.”
“Ah,
I don’t care what they do as long as they make it through to the end of the
team portion of the test,” Yuki said straightforwardly.
“It’s
good that you have low expectations. Well I gotta get
back to preparing my lesson plans I have a bunch of new students on Monday to
prepare for along with a few failures to welcome back.” Iruka gave a little
wave and walked off.
“I
think I’m ready to return to Genma and Raido’s apartment, Raido left some food
in the fridge for me.”
“Then I’ll take you there,” Mozuku said simply.
“My
name is Shirinui Genma. I’ll be your instructor if
you pass the test.”
“What
test? We already made Genin,” Kyou said, flipping his
hair out of his eyes.
“That
may be true, but if you fail tomorrow you’ll get sent back to the academy, only
four teams will pass, so that makes 12 out of 33, that’s barely a third of your
class. All the same I’ll have you introduce yourselves and say a bit about your
goals. You can go first.”
The
red headed boy glared at the teacher, “My name is Makuto
Kyou, from the main branch of the Makuto
clan. I like to fight and I don’t have any goals or hobbies.”
“You.”
“Akari Kisa! I don’t come from a
ninja clan, my goal is to be a teacher like
Iruka-sensei! I want to specialize in weapons, please take care of me sensei!”
“Last
one.”
“Makino
Hiyori, my parents are dead, goal is to be big and
strong so no one ever calls me cute again!” Genma examined his students, they were all sitting around a clearing in the
woods. Hiyori’s hair cut was short and jagged,
lending to it being cute, he had his hitai-ate tied
around his arm. His clothing were too big and dropped off his shoulder, he
could see that he was overall small and fine boned that did not promise well
for his future goal of being big.
Akari
Kisa was a tall relatively cute girl, forward and
aggressive, she was ready to take whatever life gave her and get over it, if it
meant reaching her goal.
Makuto
Kyou…was a problem, talent and attitude, he reminded
him a little of the previous prodigies.
“About
myself, you know my name already, I don’t like children and I hate teaching,
I’m going to do my best to fail you so that I can continue to live my carefree
childless life. I have many hobbies but no goals. Spar until
I tell you to run around the field, you may leave when I say so. Begin.”
Genma watched them and tried to reconcile his
childfree life with being a teacher. He
needs new clothing… Maybe they’ll fail. He tried to consul himself.
“Provided
you pass the survival training part of the test tomorrow I’ll be you’re
instructor, Namiashi Raido. However the likelihood of any of you passing
is low, with just over 1/3 of the students succeeding. Nineteen will fail.
Introduce yourselves and tell me about your goals. You first,” Raido pointed at
Akihiko.
“Murakami
Akihiko, one day soon I’ll be an ANBU captain! My
strengths are genjutsu and ninjutsu.”
“You.”
“Itsuki Aizawa, I like boys, I
intend to be invited into ANBU.”
“Yasaka Nana! My goal is to be the best weapon maker ever!
My speciality is armed combat.”
“…”
“Raido-sensei?”
“You’re
all to enthusiastic, practice your ninjutsu, don’t eat
breakfast before coming to training it’ll make you ill. Proceed.”
“Aren’t
you going to tell us more about yourself Sensei?” Aizawa
asked flirtatiously.
“No,”
Raido answered bluntly, “If you pass then tomorrow’s soon enough. I changed my
mind go home, think about different career paths because you’re never going to
be Jounin let alone ANBU.” Raido walked away, leaving
a clone to spy on them.
They
weren’t bad at all after squabbling briefly they began practicing for their
text the next day.
Shit I’m
going to be a teacher.
“How
was your day?”
“I’m
going to be a teacher, congratuately me,” Raido said
dryly. “I think one of them has a crush on me already.”
“Ah,
well she’ll discover that you’re really a horrible person sooner or later and
leave you alone.”
“He.
What about your students are they as terrible as mine?”
“I
have the Makuto heir, he’s an arrogant shit, but
marginally talented.”
“Mmm. Yuki how was your day?”
“Good
sempai! I after we parted ways I got new weapons,” Yuki nodded to the sword-dansen uchiwa that was leaning
against his chair. “and worked with Iruka-sensei to
make sure that I had all the basics covered.” Yuki stopped the brightened, “And
Mozuku gave me soldier pills! They are so much more efficient!”
“You
like those?” Raido asked half disgusted.
“Mmhmm,” Yuki answered noncommittally. “Well I’d like them
even if they tasted like dirt.”
“Ah
that right, how much higher is your capacity now?” Genma asked casually as if
he just remembered that the limiter was out and was curious for Yuki’s
potential.
“I—I
have no idea, actually,” Yuki rubbed his neck and grinned sheepishly, “I’m
guessing lots. On the other hand, I’m fairly sure that when I reach capacity I
won’t have to eat as much. This is a temporary energy deficiency.”
“I’m
happy to hear that,” Genma commented dryly. Thinking about the boxed of food
stuffs that he’d had to carry up the steps earlier.
Yuki
grinned, he’d looked younger and less hardened since
that morning when the blocker was out. Yuki turned back to the dictionary,
there was only another quarter left to be memorized. He’s made a few
corrections in the book already after consulting Genma and Raido that he was
right and the book was indeed wrong.
Raido’s team: Yasaka Nana, plain sturdy girl, very intelligent, intends
to be a weapon maker one day. Itsuki Aizawa, a delicately built, flaming young man, gay and
proud of it his goal is to be invited into ANBU,
lives with older sister since their parents abandon them. Murakami Akihiko, a
popular dark haired beauty, confident and skilled she wants to join ANBU
Genma’s team: Kyou, Asutomi clan arrogant and
cold, gets angry easily, lacks direction. Akari Kisa, not from a ninja clan, aggressive and goal orientated,
wants to be a teacher. Kitami Hiyori, cute,
undersized kid who is often picked upon, wants to get big and strong so that no
one will try to dress him as a girl again, orphan.
