Remember though that these genin were at the top of their class in their respective fields, and I like their new abilities so im not really gonna change it.lol.

Naruto headed back home as Kakashi went to Iruka’s for dinner. He was glad that his dad was getting out and spending time with Iruka, it made him happy to see the man enjoying his time home. Now that Kakashi had taken up the job as a genin team leader, he would be spending more time at home, and even more time with Naruto. The fact that he was Naruto’s instructor was just an unexpected plus. Just because his son was on his team didn’t mean that Kakashi wasn’t going to be hard on him, on the contrary Kakashi was going to be extra hard.

Naruto arrived home and set his bag on the ground. He walked to his front yard and began to water the flowers he had planted last week. He was given the flower seeds by Ms. Yamanaka two weeks ago after he had helped her weed her garden. Ms. Yamanaka’s daughter was a classmate of his but she scowled at him when she saw him and quickly left for her room. Naruto had grown quite fond of gardening. It had become almost as much fun as eating ramen…almost.

After watering his plants, Naruto decided to read up on more advanced jutsu. He had already mastered most of the elemental jutsu of the E, and D rank, but he refused to learn anything about dark elemental jutsu. Not only was it forbidden but it scarred the crap out of him. Kakashi had trained him to be well versed on every element, but Naruto had taken more of a liking to earth and plant based jutsu. His shadow clone jutsu was the only B ranked jutsu he had learned so far, but he had learned about four C ranked earth style jutsu from scrolls he borrowed from some of the jounin he helped on the weekends.

As he was reading through the scrolls he came across a particularly interesting ice style jutsu. He originally planned on learning another earth style jutsu, but he also realized that if he was ever to become a great shinobi he had to be a master of all elements. After reading the correct amounts of chakra to infuse he set out back to practice it.

Kakashi smiled from his side of the table as Iruka blushed. Iruka had invited Kakashi over for dinner to discuss team seven’s strengths and weaknesses, though he secretly hoped more could come out from it. Iruka wiped his mouth after he finished his meal and took a sip of water. Kakashi looked into Iruka’s eyes and placed his hand on top of the black haired beauty’s. “Thank you Iruka for the information.” Iruka nodded and smiled “Well, Kakashi I’m pretty sure you know most of Sasuke’s and Naruto’s abilities, but Sakura can be quite the handful when she wants to be.” Kakashi gave a short nod “I was able to tell that about her earlier, she seems very… passionate. Perhaps to a fault. Especially concerning our young Mr. Uchiha.” Iruka chuckled at that “The girls do seem to have a thing for the boy.” Kakashi stood up and walked over to Iruka “Thank you again Iruka, but I better be getting back to Naruto. Last time I left him alone I came back to find a hole in our floor and a horrid smell.” Iruka laughed heartily at his friend. “Well it was a pleasure having you over for dinner Kakashi, I do hope to see you again soon.”

Kakashi gave him a short hug and pulled away “Well then, perhaps you would like to come to my house for dinner this Saturday.” Iruka smiled at him “Sure…Thanks.” Kakashi pecked him on the cheek before heading out the door. Iruka’s face caught fire as he turned an abnormally red shade. He ghosted his hand where Kakashi’s lips had grazed and he thought ‘I will definitely look forward to Saturday’.

Naruto lay exhausted on the ground. He had only managed to create an inch of ice on the ground below him, then again it was a summer night and close to 88 degrees out (Fahrenheit). Naruto shrugged ‘Oh well gave it my best shot. Just gonna have to try it again some other time’ Naruto looked up into the clouds, and remembered when him and Sasuke use to stare up at them and say what the shapes of the clouds looked like. He felt his dad’s chakra growing closer to him and he smiled and looked up.

Kakashi held a hand down to his son and pulled him up while noticing the small mass of ice next to Naruto. He grinned at his son “Wow son, you trying to make an iceberg or something, that thing is huge.” Naruto laughed and put a hand behind his head. The two went into the house and prepared for bed. Naruto placed several different items in his pants before he slept. Kakashi glanced at him and raised an eyebrow, Naruto smirked at him before saying “Some stuff for the survival test tomorrow.”

Kakashi nodded and headed to his bed. Tomorrow wasn’t going to be easy and he knew it. Just Naruto alone was a challenge, not because the boy was stronger, but because he was full of surprises. ‘Tomorrow will certainly be… interesting’ Kakashi thought as he silently fell into slumber. Naruto closed his eyes and laid still on his bed ’I will get you back Sasuke… I promise… friends forever’.

Sakura’s tummy was rumbling she had opted to skip dinner fearing the test for tomorrow, she pulled a blanket over her body and began to breathe gently ’I guess I could start dieting, that way Sasuke will notice me more. Cha! That’s genius’ she smiled as sleep overtook her.

Sasuke laid down on his couch, he hadn’t been able to go upstairs since the murder of his family, to many painful memories. As he slowly drifted to sleep he thought back to earlier that day ’Naruto I will protect you, even if it doesn’t show that I am’

All of team seven had fallen asleep and were eager to start the next day.

Sasuke had arrived at the training grounds at 4:30 am and began to do his stretches. Sakura showed up 15 minutes later and began to gawk at Sasuke doing his stretching. Naruto showed up at exactly 5:00am, but Kakashi was nowhere to be seen. After ten minutes of waiting, Naruto began to stretch and meditate, he also started to feel for any chakra residue from Kakashi.

It was clear to Naruto that Kakashi had definetly been in the area earlier, but the trace was so faint that Kakashi had probably left 2 hours prior. He wasn‘t too good at picking up other chakra signatures, but he had learned to do so with Kakashi after training with him almost everyday. ‘I guess dad decided to lay out some traps first.’

Naruto wasn’t too sure when his dad would arrive so he created a clone and began to spar with it. At 8:00am Kakashi had finally arrived

“Sorry I’m late, I took a wrong turn and ended up near the fire countries border.” All three genin raised an eyebrow at the obvious lie. Kakashi looked at the three “Well then shall we begin. The test is simple, just grab one of the two bells on my waist and you pass. The one who fails to get a bell will go without lunch, and get sent back to the academy.”

Naruto looked at him intensely “You’ve got to be kidding, we all worked hard to get where we are today.”

Kakashi looked at him sternly “I’m not kidding, the life of a ninja is dangerous, and if you can’t handle something as simple as this then you clearly aren’t ready.”

Naruto nodded in understanding. “Well then on the count of three you can begin, you have until noon to get a bell. Ready One… Two…Three!!!” With that said Naruto touched the shoulders of his two teammates and sent them a mental message. Kakashi smiled ‘Maybe they will get past this after all’ Naruto voice bounced into the other two’s heads

“Listen I’m sure if we work together we can get those bells. It won’t be easy to just try and do it on our own.” Sasuke agreed with Naruto but he refused to accept any help from him.

Sakura pushed Naruto’s arm away and shouted with anger evident in her voice “Don’t you dare touch me again! And why on earth would I agree to help you anyway?!” Sasuke and Sakura jumped away and began to hide, leaving Naruto all by himself.

Naruto began to think ‘If they won’t accept my help openly then I’m just gonna have to help them secretly.’ Naruto also jumped into the trees and concealed his chakra.

Kakashi sat on the ground and pulled out his favorite book ‘I guess they don‘t plan on helping Naruto at all…oh well‘. Suddenly five shuriken were hurled at him from a tall bush, he caught all of them as if he was picking cherries from a tree. Naruto watched as all of Sasuke’s weapons were caught.

‘Damn it. Now he knows where Sasuke is. I gotta distract him until Sasuke can find a better hiding place.’ Naruto jumped down from his hiding spot and stood in front of Kakashi. Kakashi looked up from his book

“Naruto…What are you doing?”

Naruto took a fighting stance “I’m here to get me some bells.”

Kakashi continued to read his book “Okay then go ahead when your ready.”

Naruto knew that even though Kakashi was reading he was still more than a match. He had lost several times when his dad decided to multitask and read and train at the same time.

Sasuke had panicked when all his shuriken were caught, but now he was even more panicked when Naruto had openly jumped in front of Kakashi ‘What is that dobe thinking?’. Naruto was barely able to match Kakashi’s speed and he knew Kakashi was growing impatient. Naruto braced himself on the ground

“So Naruto is that all you’ve got, I’m afraid you won’t be able to get a bell anytime soon.” Naruto reached into his pocket and pulled out five thin strips of paper, he then laid them all on the grown before performing some seals. Kakashi knew what his son was doing since he had taught him it. Naruto then attached the paper onto his shuriken. He made more hand seals and surrounded the weapons with a white glow. Naruto then shouted “ Waves of air Wind Style jutsu” Soon Naruto was controlling the shuriken in mid air. He sent them hurling towards Kakashi. Kakashi easily dodged all of them but they continued to follow him.

Kakashi pulled out a single kunai knife and did his own hand seals. Naruto had lost control of his shuriken and they were all following the kunai Kakashi had throw towards the river. Once they all hit the kunai there was a massive explosion. Naruto yelped as he felt his dads presence behind him he turned and saw his dad make the seals for a fire style jutsu he closed his eyes tightly and gulped. Sasuke watched and jumped from his hiding spot and rushed to Naruto Kakashi then yelled” Hidden Leaf Secret Jutsu A thousand years of death.” Sasuke watched as Kakashi shoved his two fingers into Naruto’s butt.

Sasuke was confused and angry at the same time but quickly dismissed it and went back into hiding. Naruto went flying through the air quite embarrassed since he knew Sasuke was looking. He soon got up from where he landed and dusted off his clothes.

Naruto was frustrated and yelled “Hey what kind of jutsu was that, plus that was a waste of exploding tags.” Kakashi began to laugh softly “Naruto you didn’t really want to blow me up did you?” Naruto smiled “Of course not. But I will get those bells from you.” Naruto quickly reached out and pulled grass from the ground. Kakashi didn’t know what his son was up to. Naruto made a series of hands signs and Kakashi began to feel the amount of chakra welling into Narutos hand.

He knew Naruto was an expert at plant based jutsu, but he had never seen his son perform this one, he was becoming slightly intrigued. Once finished with his signs Naruto grinned mischievously and yelled “ Blade-Clone, earth style jutsu” He threw the blades of grass into the air and they suddenly turned into clones of Sakura,Sasuke and himself.

“All that work for clones Naruto? Why not just use shadow clones?” said Kakashi as he looked up from his book.

Naruto looked at him again as if he was surprised “Dad, you seriously don’t feel the difference.” Kakashi looked up from his book again and to the clones.

He was shocked to say the least. Usually clones don’t have the same chakra signatures as their owners, it’s very easy for a seasoned jounin to detect a fake. These clones however had similar chakra signatures to that of his students, and what’s more is all of the clones had jumped into hiding.

Kakashi looked around and noticed no one was in sight. He put his book into his pocket and began to walk, ‘I guess I won’t be able to finish reading after all’.

Naruto Raced through the forest looking for Sakura, he needed her Genjutsu ability if they were ever going to get those bells. He cursed himself, he knew should have studied more Genjutsu but he always got bored after studying the first part of the scroll.

Kakashi was getting tired of the clones confusing him, he then remembered the jutsu Naruto was practicing last night, the he smiled. He began a series of hands signs that took more than a minute “Permafrost Ice style jutsu.” he yelled. The area within an 20 mile radius had become frozen, and soon all of Narutos clones had disappeared The plant life had begun to wither, around him.

Sasuke watched as the ground suddenly turned to Ice, he turned around and was greeted by none other than Kakashi.

“Boo”.

Sasuke jumped back and got into a fighting stance. Sasuke wasn’t the best at taijutsu for nothing. Kakashi was amazed at the skill Sasuke was showing, he knew Sasuke would only get better with more practice. Sasuke took it up a notch and increased his speed while he went after Kakashi. He was soon in reach of one of the bells, he reached out and it touched his fingertips.

Kakashi made a quick dash backwards ‘That was way too close for comfort’ . Sasuke began to make seals of his own, Kakashi immediately recognized the jutsu, it was one of Obito’s favorites. Sasuke shouted “Fire Style Fireball jutsu”. The flames had engulfed Kakashi, but it seemed as if the flames went right through him. Sasuke halted his pyrotechnics ‘Damn, it was just an illusion. Where the hell is he?’

“I’m right here.”

Sasuke screamed as a hand reached out from under him and he was being dragged around underground. When he opened his eyes he was bound to a poll. Kakashi looked down at him “Tunneling-Earth style jutsu.”

Right after Naruto had found Sakura he heard Sasuke scream. He knew Sasuke had been caught, but he didn't want his friend to fail the test. He turned to Sakura and shouted, “Listen if you want to get Sasuke back then you have to follow what I say. I need your help if you want to get those bells.” Sakura was about to protest when Naruto continued

“Listen if you help me then I’ll give both you and Sasuke the bells ok. I promise you, alright?” Sakura saw the sincerity in Naruto’s eyes and she nodded.

“Listen Sakura I need you to make every tree appear the same, it’ll confuse him for a while.” Sakura just continued to nod.

“Just do that and I’ll get the bells for you and Sasuke.”

Kakashi turned around and noticed that his surroundings had taken a different form ‘I wonder what he’s got planned’ .

Suddenly drops of water were falling from the trees above onto his pants and around the bells. He heard a faint voice but couldn’t hear exactly what.

Naruto sat perched on a tree while masking his chakra. He whispered softly “Water Style- Drench Jutsu” soon the water on Kakashi’s pants had expanded and his whole body was soaked in water. Due to his permafrost he was beginning to freeze.

Noticing Kakashi’s distraction Naruto turned several drops of water into clones and let them fall from the tree above Kakashi. As soon as Kakashi looked up he noticed the drops of water were clones so he quickly jumped back next to a tree. Naruto then had the tree wrap vines around Kakashi and bound him at the limbs, he knew Kakashi would escape soon since the vines were frozen and could easily be broken out of, so he grabbed both bells as fast as he could. Naruto smiled up in victory.

Kakashi grinned and burned the vines binding him. The permafrost on the ground had lifted, and Sakura had broke off her Genjutsu. Naruto then tossed a bell to Sakura, and cut Sasuke free before he gave him a bell too.

Kakashi looked at him “And just what do you think you’re doing?” Naruto looked at him “I promised my teammate I would give a bell to her and Sasuke. Look Kakashi sensei, I don’t mind going back to the academy, but they worked hard and deserve to be shinobi.”

Kakashi looked down at his son and shook his head, then he turned to Sakura “Sakura, you were so worried about Sasuke that the only reason you agreed to help was to fulfill your selfish wants” then he turned to Sasuke “And you Sasuke, you refused help from anyone because you think you can handle all your problems alone.”

He then turned to Naruto “And you Naruto… I have nothing to say to you. However I hope you guys will take this as a learning experience. Naruto couldn‘t do it on his own. It takes teamwork, and had you all worked together it would have been a lot easier. However do to your selfishness one of your teammates has close to no amount of chakra left, he‘s at the brink of unconsciousness at this very moment”

Sasuke turned to Naruto and frowned slightly. Naruto just gave him a small smile from his crouched form “I’m ok Sasuke. Really I am.” Naruto’s words weren’t convincing what so ever. Naruto paused and looked at his dad “You once told me…It‘s promises that get you friends, but its performances that keep them.” Naruto then turned and smiled at Sakura and Sasuke .

Kakashi stood firmly again “That’s true Naruto, however…since you didn’t get a bell, you will not get lunch and will be forced to continue training with us for the rest of the day. Sakura and Sasuke you may eat now, I‘m going to go and disarm my traps before someone accidentally sets it off. Oh and if I catch any of you sharing your food with Naruto then you will also fail and go back to the academy.” Kakashi then left in a puff of smoke.

Naruto looked at his two teammates and smiled weakly “I’m ok, really guys. Enjoy your meal, I’m not that hungry anyways.” However his stomach betrayed him as it began to rumble at that very second. Naruto could feel it, he had lost practically all his energy, and his lack of food was beginning to dumb down his body system and his reactions.

Sasuke noticed that his ex-friend was close to losing it ‘Damn that Kakashi what the hell does he think he’s doing. Naruto might die from lack of food.’ Sasuke slowly got up and stuffed food into the blonde’s mouth.

Sakura shrieked “Sasuke what are you doing.”

Sasuke looked at her in disgust “Will you be quite. Kakashi is gone for now, and Naruto is going to pass out soon. If we don’t feed him then he might die when we train later.”

Sakura shook her head “ But we’ll get sent back to the academy.”

Sasuke glared at her “I don’t give a fuck.” ending the conversation Sasuke continued to hand feed a hesitant Naruto.

Naruto was enjoying the closeness of Sasuke, but he also didn’t want Sasuke to fail. Naruto looked up to Sasuke and began to speak “Sasuke you can stop now.” S

asuke shook his head and looked right at him “Shut up dobe and eat.”

Sasuke was about to smile but stopped himself before it let out. Soon they could hear thunder as Kakashi appeared behind them.

“What do you think your doing!!!” Kakashi boomed.

Sakura didn’t want Sasuke to get in trouble so she stood up “We’re giving Naruto our food because we’re a team.” 'Cha! that was genius Sakura keep it going girl!'

Naruto piped in “Yeah that’s right!”

Sakura felt like she was on a roll now and continued “Yeah the three of us are one.” Kakashi looked at her again

“The three of you are one?” All three genin nodded quickly

“Okay. You All pass.” The thunder and clouds retreated and Naruto looked up

“What?”

Kakashi looked down at his son “I said you all passed. You three learned what it means to be a team and to work as one.”

Sasuke snorted because Sakura had failed to mention that she didn’t do anything to help Naruto, but he kept quiet since it meant that Naruto wouldn‘t fail. It just didn’t seem right to him if Naruto didn’t pass, after all he did most of the work.

“Remember what I told you boys. Those who break the rules are trash, but those who abandon there friends are lower than trash.” Sasuke and Naruto both nodded while Sakura twirled her hair.

“Right then we start our first mission tomorrow, meet at the bridge at 7am. You‘re all dismissed.” Kakashi picked up his son’s body and carried him home. Once there he laid him down on the mattress and began to cook some ramen.

‘I’m proud of you Naruto’ Kakashi smiled as his son entered the kitchen sniffing the air.

We are members one of another, so that you cannot injure or help your neighbor without injuring or helping yourself
