Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto nor make profit of it. Kishimoto owns it. |
Author's note: This week has honestly been ... draining somewhat. Aggravating no doubt. One thing did get solved today at least, so that's something. And my brain is being an idiot, so have this weird ficlet while I kick my butt into gear for my other projects. Sorry for taking so long with those, guys, my brain's being a bitch.
Warnings: Naruto's pov; canon divergent after the war; established slash; weird ficlet; light MPreg; references to implied mature content; fluff; sappy fic; so much fluff; decent Sakura
Dedicated to: Meehalla. I hope you feel better soon, sweetheart!
I hope you'll like this ... odd thing.
No Words Necessary
"All right, I'll be home soon," Naruto promised, pulling the next scroll towards him.
"You better be. I'm not picking up ramen again just because you're late," Sasuke warned him, walking to the door.
"That's just mean," Naruto pouted and shifted into a better position in his chair, resting a hand on the hidden swell of his belly. "I love you."
Sasuke grunted in response before he left, pulling the door shut behind him. Whose turn was it anyways to cook? Was it his or Sasuke's? Hopefully Sasuke's, because he had no idea what to cook tonight; his mind too frazzled after reading document after document today. Seriously, none of the previous Hokage had warned him that there was so much paperwork involved with the Kage position!
"Doesn't it bother you?" Sakura piped up out of nowhere, having paused in the midst of collecting her own files of the hospital. She and Naruto had discussed adding a new wing to the hospital, trying to figure out how many funds would be required for it.
"What?" he asked confused, looking up from the file. "What doesn't bother me?"
"That he never says that he loves you," she answered, jerking her head to the door. "I mean, you guys have been together for four years now, no? And I've never heard him say it back to you. Doesn't that bother you?"
He studied her carefully, but she seemed genuinely confused; not as if she was trying to stir up some trouble. It had taken quite some time for her to get used to the fact that Sasuke would never return her feelings. She had actually ignored them for five months straight after they had told her about their relationship, too hurt about having "lost" to Naruto. Eventually she had come to accept them, but the atmosphere between them had been awkward for quite some time.
Naruto hadn't wanted to hurt her, but he hadn't exactly been selfless enough to take a step back. Not that that would have mattered anyways, because Sasuke had been clear that at most he would only consider Sakura to be a friend of his and nothing more.
That had been quite the bitter pill for her to swallow, the blond man knew. Still, she had got over it in the end.
"Nah, it doesn't bother me," he chuckled and returned to the file.
"No? But doesn't it ever make you wonder whether he really loves you back?" she asked troubled, frowning slightly. "Personally I would start to wonder about that if my boyfriend never really said it to me back."
"No, I never wonder because I know he does. He doesn't need words," he smiled, leaning back in his chair.
"How so?"
Because Sasuke showed it every day. He'd always been rather taciturn – more than Naruto had ever been – but he didn't need words to make it obvious that he loved Naruto. He showed it every morning when he would lie longer in bed because he knew Naruto liked to cuddle first when he woke up. Naruto wasn't a morning person, however, so he never was able to wake up as early as Sasuke did. That didn't matter to the dark haired man, though; he would lie there until Naruto woke up.
Whenever Naruto had a long day or a frustrating one because the council was being difficult again, ramen from Ichiraku's would be waiting for him when he returned to their small cottage. No matter how late, three steaming bowls would be ready on the table with Sasuke on the other end, ready to listen and let Naruto rant and rave if he wanted to.
There was a collection of little frog statues on a shelf in their living room, a collection which grew nearly every time Sasuke travelled around. If he ended up in a village or a town and there was something frog related there? Sasuke would bring it back for him, knowing how much Naruto liked frogs. Sasuke might tease him about the statues, might call some of them ugly, but still he would show up with them, watching with a smile how Naruto's face would lit up at the sight of them.
He showed it in the little things he did every day: in the way he would tangle their fingers together in public, how he would sigh and tsk and roll his eyes but still let Naruto hang around his neck. It was there in the soft kisses they shared every morning, in the caresses and gentle touches whenever they had sex.
In the way his eyes would glow whenever he was buried deep inside Naruto, listening to the blond man gasp and moan, trying to stifle the noise somewhat but failing every single time, because Sasuke wouldn't let him be quiet.
How he would tug Naruto against him in the kitchen while preparing dinner, peppering distracted kisses against his cheek and in his neck.
He showed it when he had been the only one to believe Naruto when he'd enthusiastically announced that he might have found a way for them to have a biological child together after all.
Audible whenever he would chuckle quietly and call Naruto "Usuratonkachi"; the insult having grown affectionate a long time ago.
Visible in his eyes when he would cup Naruto's steadily growing belly; wonder and awe mixed in his gaze at what they had made together.
In his hugs and warm embraces; the kisses he would secretly steal right before Naruto had a meeting. In the way he would pull Naruto in an unused room or closet just to kiss him for a while, like nothing else existed in the world, like nothing else mattered.
How he would stand behind Naruto during Kage meetings; a protective silent shadow, ready to strike at the slightest hint that something might be wrong.
He showed it every time he was polite to Gaara, because while he might not exactly want to be the Kazekage's friend, he also knew that Gaara and Naruto were friends, so he was willing to make the effort if it would make Naruto happy.
When his love was so clear in every gesture he made, in every kiss and touch and embrace, there was no needs for words.
Because Naruto knew.
"Because he shows it to me every day," Naruto smiled.
When he arrived home an hour later, Ichiraku's was waiting for him; the enticing scent instantly making his stomach grumble and his mouth water.
He almost tripped in his haste to reach the table, ignoring Sasuke's warning hiss. "I thought you said you wouldn't get ramen?" Naruto reminded him amused, wriggling himself out of his Kage robes.
"Well," a hand descended on his belly, cupping it gently, while lips found his, "consider it a reward for actually being on time."
There was no way of course for Sasuke to have known he would have been on time, not when it had happened before that Naruto had had to deal with unexpected meetings.
Smiling, he turned around and hugged Sasuke back, pressing his face into his neck. "I love you."
He could taste the answer when Sasuke kissed him again.
No, he didn't need to hear the words when Sasuke was more than clear about his love. Sometimes words really were overrated.
The End
AN2: I don't know what this is. Guess my brain wanted to produce something sappy? Clearly it's not deep.

I hope to see you all back in my future stories! Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
