Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto nor make profit of it. Kishimoto owns it. |
Author's note: Don't know where this came from. Wanted to try out something new and as usual it sounded better in my head while my hands refused to cooperate. I think it's something, though? I leave you to be the judge of that.
While this fic can stand perfectly on its own, I envision this takes place before the start of the His Shadow series, before Naruto is Hokage. He still lands into trouble, though, because what else is new?

Unescapable
He loathed those eyes with everything he had in him since the very first second he'd been subjected to them.
Time and time again, those filthy eyes took control over him, forcing him to do the owner's bidding. Uchiha Madara had been the worst so far, though Uchiha Obito came very close. With the latter he had come close to finally tasting victory and freedom, his Sharingan not quite strong enough yet to completely control him.
He had almost been completely free – and then Kushina and her husband had worked together even in her weakened state to seal him up in their own kid. Giving their lives in order to save those belonging to their wretched village.
If his situation wasn't so frustrating, Kurama would almost think it was amusing how he got thwarted every time he had the slightest chance at being free. Almost.
Sealed into the Uzumaki brat, he had a front row ticket to witnessing just how cruelly humans could really behave. There was something ironically interesting in how Kushina and her husband had intended their son to be the hero of Konoha, yet the kid was despised and hated for what he had inside of him. The best thing? The kid wasn't even aware of why he was hated so much, remaining in the dark about the bijuu sealed inside of him.
As the brat grew, Kurama could feel his frustration building, his incomprehension about the village's treatment of him mounting, fuelling his desire to act out just to get the slightest bit of attention, whether that was good or bad. Kurama was morbidly fascinated by it, because here the kid got shunned day after day, yet he kept fighting on, kept pulling pranks and taunting people if that meant they would finally look at him.
And throughout all that, there was Uchiha Sasuke.
Equally parts despaired and amused, Kurama could only watch on in disgust as his container grew fascinated by the youngest Uchiha brat. Uchiha managed to call up so many different feelings inside the brat – envy, anger, amazement, awe, tentative happiness – that the nine-tailed fox got an actual headache from it. If he wasn't sealed up so tightly, he would like nothing more than to reach out to the brat and slap him across the face for being so damn pathetic for an Uchiha of all people.
Then, in a short period of time two things happened: Uchiha gained the Sharingan and was attacked badly.
So badly that the brat absolutely lost it and the first cracks in the seal appeared, the barrier no longer impregnatable. Kurama's chakra leaked out, surrounding the brat as he chased after the enemy, bloodlust setting him alight as he sought to punish the one who'd stolen his friend from him.
Kurama's first taste of freedom in years was snatched away just as quickly as it had appeared, but this time he wasn't furious about it. No, he mused as he rested his head on his paws, his tails idly swishing back and forth, his gaze aimed at the bars containing him.
For now.
He wasn't furious, because the first cracks had appeared and from now on it wouldn't take that long anymore for the seal to give away completely. All he had to do was be patient a little while longer, allow the brat to use his power and feel drunk on it, let him realise just how much he needed Kurama's power even when he didn't want to acknowledge it aloud.
Just a bit longer and then Kurama would be free again.
He had never paid much attention to what exactly the brat thought about the youngest Uchiha because at best it would annoy him, at worst it would enrage him. He thought the kid was beyond stupid for wanting to be friends with someone whose eyes could control him so easily, but he didn't say it aloud. Interacting with the brat tested his restraint often a bit too much.
When the youngest Uchiha had left, he thought that would have been the end of it, because surely being abandoned by the only one he'd considered his best friend would make the kid realise that his taste sucked.
Of course it didn't, because the kid was stupid beyond belief and possessed a tenacity that even his mother hadn't. Still, Kurama enjoyed the years without a Sharingan nearby.
Then the brat found Uchiha again and only then did Kurama realise just how screwed he really was.
Staring into those cursed red eyes, he breathed out, "Eyes with such power and chakra even more sinister than my own … Not at all unlike what I once saw in a certain Uchiha Madara …"
That appeared to be the wrong thing to say because those blood red eyes narrowed with anger and then his chakra bubbles were popped, leaving him to utter one last warning, "Don't kill Naruto … You'll end up regretting it."
He wasn't fond of the brat, still sought a way to free himself from him, but he recognised that look in those damned Sharingan eyes. It was the same ruthless look he'd once witnessed in Uchiha Madara's eyes, a look that spoke of wanting to destroy everything without a second thought. Uchiha Sasuke was just like his ancestor, but Kurama would be damned if he would let that Sharingan user do whatever he wanted.
But therein lied the problem: because while Kurama recognised that type of ruthlessness, of the sorts that would have someone even turning against his own loved ones, he also discovered something within his container that filled him with rage and had him snarling inside his prison.
That damned brat was infatuated with the last Sharingan user, though whether he was aware of it was a whole other matter. But the feelings were clearly there, the longing, the desire, the drive to be with the Uchiha and it filled Kurama with utter revulsion.
And for the first time in centuries also with fear.
Because the kid had gone down so far into the rabbit hole, he wouldn't be able to defend himself. Wouldn't be able to keep the Sharingan user from killing him, as evidenced by his bold proclamation that he would rather die with that damned Uchiha than survive without him.
So it would be up to Kurama to make sure the kid wouldn't perish underneath a Sharingan. All that because the kid was stupid enough to become infatuated with an Uchiha of all people.
Why did he have to be sealed into such a big idiot of all humans?
He hated the Sharingan and everything it stood for, hated the way it could easily control him.
What he hated the most, however, was idiots thinking they were more powerful than him. The ones who thought that because they had some kind of fancy ocular power as well that sent Naruto in such a deep unconsciousness not even Kurama's snarling woke him up, they could order him to do whatever they wanted. The type who thought they knew him better than he himself knew.
"Naruto?" Uchiha appeared in the entrance of the cave, eyeing him warily.
At least he hadn't grown stupid with age, Kurama acknowledged idly, watching through Naruto's eyes how Uchiha grasped his katana, one eye already spinning into that foul Mangekyou Sharingan, his other flashing the purple colour of the Rinnegan. Blind he definitely wasn't and he could easily see how Kurama's chakra was leaking out profusely, coating Naruto's body like it always did whenever the Jinchuuriki called up his chakra.
Except that this time Naruto wasn't awake and Kurama was controlling his body.
"I knew you would come," the human who'd subdued Naruto said giddily, his fingers resting on the signs he'd traced into the ground with his own blood. "You really should have tried to be more subtle, because rumours are flying and they make it way too easy to track you down."
"Who the hell are you and what do you want," Uchiha asked flatly, looking entirely unimpressed.
Kurama approved of that, strange as it felt still after all these years to approve of something an Uchiha did. In this case, the Sharingan user was right, however; the nine tailed fox wanting some decent answers as well. Especially as he still couldn't wake up Naruto and the collar around his neck was starting to annoy him.
Truly, for someone who had survived a war and multiple high powered enemies, Naruto really could be stupid at times. This was exactly why one should attack first and ask questions later. Otherwise they ended up like this: thrown into a cave, forced into subconsciousness while the bijuu had free reign.
He was going to have a lot of fun rubbing his stupidity into his face once he was awake again.
"Doesn't matter who I am," the man smiled, his eyes with its weirdly red comma swirling around like a whirlpool. "As for what I want – what everyone else wants, of course: power. And you're going to give that to me."
"You're one of Orochimaru's experiments, right?" Uchiha remarked critically and scoffed. "One of the failed ones, I presume, if you have to do a stunt like this to get power."
Did Kurama really have to be dragged into a dispute between Uchiha and some kind of idiot from that Orochimaru guy? This was yet another reason why Naruto was so dumb for canoodling with the last Uchiha: nothing but trouble followed that man.
"Think whatever you want. Your tricks aren't going to work on me," the man smiled thinly and locked his spinning eyes onto Kurama's, ordering, "Kyuubi, attack Uchiha."
There was a brief pressure against his chakra, like an annoying child tugging for attention and at once Kurama understood what was happening. Ah, so whatever squabble the human had with Uchiha, he was hoping that Kurama would weaken Uchiha enough to suck up his chakra. That finally explained the odd circle with the signs he'd set up around him. Have Kurama attack Uchiha and pounce to steal his chakra the second Uchiha was weak enough.
Smart.
Just not smart enough.
As Kurama opened his mouth, preparing a Tailed Beast Bomb, he saw Uchiha hunching down, his jaw clenched and his hand uncertainly tightening around his katana. His dilemma was clear and Kurama would have laughed if he wasn't feeling so annoyed. Uchiha wasn't stupid clearly and had also realised what the guy's plan was. He couldn't know how much control the man had over Kurama, however, and now he was at a stalemate: defend himself and risk getting rid of someone Naruto considered a dear friend or do nothing and die?
The world had gone truly mad if an Uchiha considered dying before harming the nine-tailed fox.
"Yes, now hit him with all your power!" the man cried out, grinning widely.
He was still grinning when Kurama whipped his head around and aimed the Tailed Beast Bomb straight at him, blowing apart that side of the cave. His attack scorched the earth and dug a long wide groove through it, ripping apart the trees and boulders in its way.
Dust was still settling when Uchiha appeared in the innermost layer of consciousness that Naruto and Kurama shared; his face neutral.
"You weren't under his control," he stated; his eyes flickering towards the unconscious form of Naruto curled up a few feet further away.
Kurama bared his teeth. "As if a failed experiment could control me," he sneered and lied down, crossing his paws. "That idiot was born centuries too early to try to take me on."
"What happened?" Uchiha questioned, resting his hand on his hip.
"Your boyfriend being an idiot like always," Kurama answered bored. "He was being followed and instead of attacking first, he tried asking what the human's deal was. He used his ocular power to put Naruto to sleep. Haven't been able to wake him up yet."
"You could have broken free any time," Uchiha observed flatly. "Why didn't you?"
"Because I was bored and wanted to see what the human was planning," Kurama snorted. "Didn't think he was stupid enough to try to take you on, though."
If rumours were indeed spreading so rapidly, why did all those humans think they could take on Naruto or Uchiha? The human had got lucky with Naruto today, but only because Kurama had allowed him to do so, wanting to find out what he'd been planning.
Stupidity really was rampant amongst humankind, it seemed.
"I'm surprised you didn't use his order as an excuse to attack me," Uchiha said dryly.
"Nobody orders me around," Kurama smirked and his second tail rose up behind him to point at the Sharingan bearer. "That and I'm not in the mood to listen to the brat's whining if I had aimed in your direction. Besides, who else could wake up the kid if you're gone?"
"Finally acknowledging that the Sharingan is superior?" Uchiha smirked, not even flinching when Kurama slammed his paw down right in front of him and growled.
The insolent brat.
"Get out of here before I decide there's some merit in his order," he growled, baring his teeth.
Uchiha had the gall to snort, but all the same he walked to Naruto and pushed him onto his back, opening his eyes so that he could look into them.
As Kurama watched consciousness growing back into blue eyes, he settled down comfortably, waiting for his container to break out of his grogginess.
"Hm, Sasuke? Why are you here?" Naruto asked confused; his gaze flickering between Kurama and Uchiha.
"You got attacked by one of Orochimaru's experiments. Apparently he's been experimenting with new ocular powers," Uchiha explained, pulling him up.
Naruto groaned and rubbed the back of his head. "Of course he has, because the creepy snake can't leave things alone. God, I hate him."
"Who doesn't?" Uchiha asked rhetorically. "Come on, we need to make sure nobody else is going to try another stunt like this."
Naruto nodded, walking away, but Kurama halted Uchiha. "Hey."
The Sharingan user turned his head and quirked an eyebrow.
"Look out for him," Kurama grunted and narrowed his eyes. "I won't always be in the mood to save both your butts."
"I'll make sure to tell him that," Uchiha retorted and was gone before Kurama could say anything else.
That was fine, though. Not like he wanted to chat and drink tea with a Sharingan user. He would revel instead in the flash of apprehension he'd saw in that Mangekyou when Uchiha had thought he would attack him. Always good to know he still had it in him to scare an Uchiha.
He despised the Sharingan with everything he had in him; the eyes ever present in his life, never letting him escape no matter the time period.
Perhaps, though, he would learn to tolerate at least one Sharingan as that user was the only one capable of making Naruto behave less stupid.
Only tolerate at the most, though. Best not to give Uchiha any ideas.
