Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto nor make profit of it. Kishimoto owns it. |
Author's note: This oneshot is even more random than the one I wrote earlier this week if you can believe that. No idea where this comes from, except that I apparently have a thing for Sasuke being a captain in a medievalish setting *clears throat* Just go along with it, guys, and ignore my hyperfixation.
Warnings: Sasuke's pov; Alternate universe; medievalish setting (yes, again, sorry); established slash; past minor character deaths; violence; MPreg; mature content; references to attempted past sexual assault; sort of domestic bliss; war era; Omega!Naruto
Dedicated to: Meehalla. Figured you could use something to distract yourself, hon! (Even if it's random shit like this)
I hope you'll like this at least somewhat!
Like Smoke
The whole country had been in shambles since the Sound clan had decided to launch a widespread attack.
Where before clans had worked together, creating agreements of their own, now every clan retreated to their own land, suspicious of the ones they had once considered to be friends. The enemy was everywhere, infiltrating in even the smallest region, and clans who had been best neighbours before now closed ranks, closing borders and gates and refusing any request for aid.
It was a grim time to live in, an era where people didn't dare to leave their land for fear of being killed or abducted to work for the enemy. Every stranger passing through the gates – if they opened in the first place – was regarded with suspicion until they left again and soldiers roamed the borders, keeping guard. Sometimes the men were sent out when a threat became too tangible. At times most of them returned, sometimes barely a few were fortunate to survive the latest battle.
Attempts to have peace return to the country failed time and time again. Whenever the biggest clans would manage to come together and draft up a new agreement, something would happen that would set them two steps back again. One of the most important leaders, Hiruzen of the Sarutobi clan, was murdered before the signatures could be placed. The manor where the heads of the clans had gathered two months later was attacked by the Otsutsuki clan, resulting in the deaths of six men and several members of household staffs.
Something always interfered before peace could start taking a hold and it was reaching a point where none of the clans even believed peace was still possible. It seemed like a long lost dream by now, a fantasy which would never become reality again.
And so with war still raging on, the clans improved their armies and created new battle strategies; ones which would once upon a time have been shared with their closest neighbours, but which now were kept a complete secret. If anything was written down about their strategies, then the scrolls were hidden away in a place of which the knowledge was only shared between two people at most.
If a clan wanted to survive, they needed to improve; they needed to be absolutely ruthless and not leave anything up to chance. The clans with the highest survival rate were the ones who kept their borders tightly shut, the ones who could self-sustain and who had access to a powerful army and even more powerful strategies.
The Uchiha clan was one of those clans. In possession of one of the largest pieces of land in the country – only second to the Sarutobi clan – the Uchiha were able to rely on their own fields and livestock to keep their members fed. Their position near the sea offered another advantage; should they still be in need of something, all they had to do was go out at sea, catch enough fish and bargain with their neighbours for whatever they needed to have.
With an army even more powerful than that of the Sound clan, the Uchiha were masters of the sea and of the land, having suffered only ten losses throughout the ten years that the war had been going on. Their shields brandishing the red and white fan had become notorious throughout the entire country and more than one regiment had promptly retreated at the sight of the Uchiha army charging at them.
Fools they all might be for keeping the war intact, but very few were foolish enough to attack the Uchiha head on.
"That was the last one?" Sasuke inquired calmly, sheathing his own katana and stepping away from the bandit he'd just killed.
"The last one," Jugo confirmed, relaxing his stand now that all their enemies had been defeated. "You want us to go around and see if they have anything of value, Captain?"
"Might as well. Perhaps we get something interesting out of it," Sasuke allowed. Otherwise the loot might be useful enough as bargain material. With winter approaching, it was ill advised to go out too far at the sea, leaving them to catch the fish swimming close enough to their land.
As he watched his men check every dead body for valuables, Sasuke looked up at the sky and pondered how long it would take them to return home. Perhaps if they hurried, they might return before the stroke of midnight.
At twenty-five years of age, Uchiha Sasuke was one of the youngest captains the clan had ever seen. While his family might be the leader of the clan, he hadn't earnt the title because of his name. He had proven himself over and over again; the faint scars marring his back and chest evidence of the battles he'd weathered through. He had rightfully earnt the title of Captain and two years later he could count on his personal army of fifteen men to always stand by his side.
"Hey, boss, look what I found," Suigetsu called out and walked over to him with a mischievous grin. "Fitting for you, huh?"
When he held out his hand, he presented a smoky black stone, which faintly glittered in the light. Some spots were see-through, making it look like the stone was filled with smoke.
"Guess they should have considered this as an omen, hm?" Suigetsu smirked.
"Perhaps," Sasuke said amused and accepted the stone.
Because of his efficient battle strategy which saw him ripping through the enemy's defences before they could even blink, they had started comparing him to smoke: seen at times but unable to be caught. In Sasuke's opinion, it was an inane comparison to be made as he certainly could be caught, evidenced by his scars, but it did have as a useful benefit that most enemies turned tail at the sight of him than risking a fight.
He pocketed the stone, idly thinking he could perhaps find a good use for it later on, and waited for his men to finish checking the enemies' pockets and bags. Once they were done, they got back on their horses and galloped away, leaving the pile of bodies behind for the wolves and bears prowling the woods.
They reached home around two hours before midnight, which put his men in an even better mood than they already had been before. Being able to return early and without suffering any casualties was always cause for celebration and he heard some of his men discussing a meeting at the local pub tomorrow to celebrate their latest victory.
After a stableboy took over the reins of his horse, Sasuke strode into the manor he called his home, where he was greeted by Deidara, his older brother's spouse.
"Has Itachi arrived yet?" Sasuke inquired, removing his cloak, nodding in thanks at the maid who accepted it with a bow.
His brother had gone up north to deal with some rogue bandits there. They had no idea whether the bandits had any tie to a clan, but they weren't willing to let them get too close to their land either.
"No, he hasn't," Deidara answered, a large shawl draped across his shoulders. His hair was in a low ponytail tonight and he had been seated on the lowest steps of the staircase, rising up the second Sasuke had entered the hallway.
"He did send a messenger boy, however, un," he added, adjusting the dark blue shawl absentmindedly. "He should be back in two days at the latest."
"That's good to hear," Sasuke said, relieved that his brother had been able to message them.
Not that he had to worry about his brother when the older man was even more fierce and ferocious than he himself could be, but in a battle anything could happen and it wouldn't do to become too full of one's own capabilities.
"You didn't have to wait for me," he remarked, removing his boots and sliding his feet into the slippers provided by a second maid.
The blond man shrugged. "It was either your parents or me who would be awaiting you and I figured you wouldn't want to deal with too much fussing tonight, un."
"Mother has been besides herself with worry again?" Sasuke guessed wryly. "It's not like my brother and I were fighting entire armies now. Just a couple of bandits."
"Parental instinct." Deidara shrugged and smiled then, his blue eyes glittering. "I'm sure you know all about that."
Dark eyes rolled and Sasuke walked past him, not deigning that worthy of a reply. "I'm going to take a bath."
"Hm, good night."
"Good night."
As expected from their excellent staff, a hot bath was already awaiting him when he slid the door to the bathroom open. Steam gently rose up from the bath and he couldn't get out of his armour and clothes fast enough, eager to get the stench of death and blood off of him.
Afterwards, dressed in a simple shirt and light trousers, he made his way to the second floor, entering the second room on the right. The curtains were only half drawn here and moonlight was spilling through the gap, illuminating the room enough so that he wouldn't accidentally trip over any of the toys strewn carelessly across the floor.
Shaking his head lightly, he silently approached the bed where a small form was curled up in the middle; the sheets covering him entirely. Gently, Sasuke pulled the sheets down somewhat and tucked them around Takeshi's shoulders. His three year old son sniffled in his sleep and curled up tighter as if he was a cat.
Sasuke softly caressed his black locks, noting that it was getting longer again. They would have to cut it again soon because Takeshi disliked his hair long. He bent down to brush a soft kiss on Takeshi's forehead, smiling when the little boy murmured nonsensically in his sleep.
Just as silent did he leave the room again and made his way over to the one at the end of the corridor, where just the faintest hint of a light was seeping underneath the door.
Opening the door, he looked around, raising his eyebrow at the lit candles dotting the chest, the table and the nightstands, dipping the bedroom in a warm light. Right there, in the middle of the large bed, was his husband, wearing one of Sasuke's kimonos. It was a dual coloured piece: the right half a simple white while the left half was a dark blue, displaying the clan's symbol. The wide sleeves hung loosely around the man's wrists, but the fabric couldn't do anything to hide his obviously rounded stomach.
"You were waiting for me," Sasuke remarked, drawing closer to the bed.
Naruto smiled, his blue eyes glistening. "I had a feeling you would return tonight."
"And you didn't come greet me downstairs?" Sasuke tsk'd, watching intently how the blond man rose up on his knees, his belly prominently displayed now.
"Well, I had to properly prepare myself for my husband's arrival, didn't I?" Naruto retorted mischievously and held out his hands. "Come."
He didn't need to say that twice. Sasuke was already on the bed, capturing Naruto's mouth in a deep kiss before either one of them could draw a breath. One hand cupped Naruto's head, preventing him from moving away, while the other descended, stroking his belly reverently.
"I missed you," he murmured, drawing back slightly at last to breathe.
"Hm, missed you too," Naruto said and nuzzled his neck.
This close to Naruto, his scent was almost overwhelming and Sasuke inhaled greedily, his grip around blond strands tightening gradually. Even after six years he still was weak for the alluring scent, the scent indicating that the man within his arms wasn't just any man, but an Omega; a rare being capable of birthing children even whilst being a man.
Rare as Omega were, they were considered gifts of the gods and good luck would befall the family fortunate enough to have one in their midst. With their status and ability, it came as no surprise to anyone that they made for excellent bargaining chips during the war.
Naruto himself would have been used as a bargaining chip after a regiment of the Sound clan had got their hands on him, but unfortunately for those men, Naruto wasn't the weak man they had assumed him to be.
When the regiment had started to come too close to Uchiha land for comfort, Fugaku had sent out his youngest son to deal with them. It had been Sasuke's first assignment as a Captain and he had been determined to bring it to a perfect end with no casualties on their side.
Big was his shock when he and his man arrived at the clearing said to house the regiment, only to find a slender blond man almost flying from one side to the other, slashing the backs of legs and stabbing through throats right underneath the helmets. Sasuke's stupor had lasted for a good ten seconds before he had shook himself out of it and had ordered his men to get rid of everyone but the blond.
The blond man had bared his teeth at him when he had approached him, his knife glinting fresh with blood instantly raised in front of him, ready to attack once more. He could easily have been an enemy as well, but something in Sasuke had told him that wasn't the case and he knew he had shocked his men when he had laid his katana on the ground and raised his hands, showing he meant no harm.
Years later he could hardly recall what he had said back then, his mind swirling too much at the time to register whatever had been leaving his lips. It had worked, though, the blond man having followed him back to his horse, allowing him to help him on it.
He might not be able to recall anymore what he had been saying back then, but he could still recall with clarity the blood soaked vision in front of him, blue eyes sparking with fire, teeth bared even as his face was horrendously bruised. The way the man had stood there, brandishing his knife, ready to take on yet another enemy after having dealt with almost an entire regiment by himself.
They had taken him from an orphanage, rumours of an Omega living in the quiet town luring them to the place. In the midst of the night they had taken him with them before setting the orphanage alight, riding away on their horses as children and women screamed, trying to escape the roaring flames.
The Omega had overheard the Sound members debating what they should do with him, sell him or use them for their own pleasure, perhaps offer him as a bargaining chip. In the end their prick had taken over the part of making a decision and they had laughingly argued who would have the honour of fucking the Omega as the first one.
Unfortunately for them, the Omega in question hadn't been about to take his fate lying down and when the first man had eagerly stepped into the tent, he had had his throat slit before he could even lower his hands to open his trousers.
An Omega he might be, but Naruto definitely wasn't one to underestimate.
And somehow he was all Sasuke's. The dark haired man still had no idea which godly being he had pleased for the blond man to have agreed to being courted by him, but he was grateful for it each and every day.
Grateful for the love Naruto freely bestowed upon him, grateful for their son peacefully sleeping just a few rooms down the corridor, grateful for their second baby growing within Naruto's womb.
"How's our baby been?" Sasuke murmured, cupping Naruto's belly with both his hands now, still as amazed as the first time when he felt a fist pressing back faintly.
"Impatient," Naruto chuckled, stroking his belly lovingly. "Think he's missing his father."
"Still thinking it's going to be another boy, hm?" Sasuke remarked amused and gently pushed his husband down, watching greedily how the kimono parted at his thighs, revealing that he was wearing nothing underneath.
"Of course and I'm going to be right, just like the first time, you'll see," Naruto insisted, fingers closing around Sasuke's shoulders to tug him down. "I just feel that it's another baby boy."
"If you say it's going to be another boy, then it's going to be another boy," Sasuke easily agreed, his fingers trailing up smooth silky thighs.
It didn't matter to him whether they would be getting another son or a daughter this time. As long as the babe and Naruto remained safe, he couldn't care less.
His fingers paused when they slipped higher, encountering damp wetness. "You really did prepare yourself," he said wondrously and if his interest hadn't been roused already, he would surely have hardened now.
"Of course I did, you think I would joke about something like that?" Naruto asked haughtily, but a grin played around his reddened mouth. "Come on now, get rid of everything, I want to show you how much I've missed you."
"Yes, my lord," Sasuke said mockingly, but all the same he quickly divested himself off his shirt and his trousers, halting Naruto's hands when they were about to remove the belt from the kimono. "No, keep it on."
"You really like seeing me in your clothes, hm?" Naruto teased and held up his hands before resting them on either side of his head, posing in a way that was both innocent yet seductive at the same time. "Well, by all means, do continue."
"So impatient, really," Sasuke chided, but his lust was bigger than his need for teasing and he kissed Naruto, parting his legs and wrapping them around himself. That brought his cock flush against the Omega's stretched entrance and Naruto moaned softly when the head of his dick bumped against his rim.
When Sasuke shifted slightly, his cock slipped inside and a surprised noise escaped the blond as if he hadn't been expecting it. Surprised as he was, his body easily accommodated Sasuke when he pushed forwards, the inner muscles parting and moulding around his cock like Naruto was made for him, accepting him eagerly into his body.
Sasuke was careful to keep most of his weight off Naruto's stomach, unwilling to cause him any discomfort, but he still managed to steal deep, filthy kisses, ones which left Naruto gasping for more and had Sasuke's own lips tingling.
The candles on each side made Naruto's blue eyes glitter as if they were filled with diamonds even as his pupils expanded visibly, swallowing the bright blue colour. Kissing his neck, Sasuke listened to the breathy moans and whimpers freely escaping his husband; the sounds making him delirious with want and when he thrusted inside next, he pushed into him a bit harder, a bit quicker, eliciting a deep groan from the other man when he managed to strike that hidden spot within him in just the right way.
"I love you," he whispered into Naruto's ear and the younger man shuddered, nails digging into Sasuke's back when he came, spilling between them.
"I – I love you too," Naruto replied in a rough, broken voice and the husky undertone had Sasuke burying his face into the Omega's neck, his mind heady with his scent, as he came too, deep inside his lover.
They remained connected for a little bit longer as they laid there, catching their breath, before Sasuke rose up and wettened a cloth to clean the both of them.
Once clean and dry again, they crawled back into the bed, Naruto curling into his side with content sigh and Sasuke's hand resting protectively across his bump.
Here, sequestered in their bedroom with Naruto lying against him, it was easy to forget that their country had been at war for years now and would perhaps be for many more years to come. Nobody could say for certain when the end of the war would be near, but Sasuke made a silent promise to himself as he curled his arm around Naruto's shoulders, pressing him even closer, making the man chuckle and kiss his shoulder right on top of an old scar.
No matter how long the war would still rage on, he would make sure that his little family would know nothing but peace here.
The End
AN2: Yes, I still suck at endings. It's a point I'm continuously working on and one day I will succeed in creating the perfect one. Until then, well, have this *waves hand*
