Author's note: I have no clue where this idea came from. Like literally nothing. I just wrote it because it wouldn't leave my mind, so if it's crap I apologise in advance. I also don't know much about how the police procedures actually work, so apologies in advance for that as well if I mess up extraordinarily.

When Takayama Ichika joined the team, she had no idea what exactly to expect. Of course she knew that this team was made up of only the best officers and being invited to join it was often compared to trying to win the lottery: virtually impossible.
Somehow she had impressed the bosses enough that they had allowed her to transfer to the team, however, and she was determined to prove that she was worthy of a place here. It wasn't going to be easy, she knew, but if she had wanted easy, she wouldn't have joined the police in the first place.
The team, aside from her, consisted out of five members. Hatake Kakashi was their boss; his silver white hair clashed with his overall youthful appearance and the lower half of his face was forever hidden behind a mask. Nobody knew why as he wasn't showing signs of any allergy and nobody dared to ask either. Ichika's colleagues were if possible even younger looking. There was only one woman, who wore her long blonde hair in a high ponytail and whose sharp blue eyes had Ichika feeling unsettled when they landed on her. She was dressed in the tightest clothes Ichika had witnessed on anyone, but she seemed quite comfortable in them as she leant back in her chair with her arms crossed, introducing herself as Yamanaka Ino.
A man with a spiky ponytail and appearing bored out of his mind sat behind the desk closest to Ichika and introduced himself with a short, "Nara Shikamaru."
The man sitting behind him wore sunglasses for some reason and she wondered whether he was suffering from a headache. His voice was calm and polite when he introduced himself, "Aburame Shino, pleased to meet you."
The last man on the team and the one who sat the furthest away from Ichika was also the one who grabbed her attention immediately, because of how utterly good looking he was. His black hair had a bluish sheen to it and was spiked in the back. His black eyes were piercing and unreadable as he sat there with his arms crossed, regarding her with a blank face. With his sharp cheekbones, straight nose and pale rose lips he looked like he belonged on a catwalk instead of in a police station and she felt herself blush against her will underneath his scrutiny.
"This is the part where you introduce yourself as well," Kakashi said dryly, looking at the dark haired man.
The man in question rolled his eyes, but nevertheless complied, "Uchiha Sasuke, nice to meet you."
She smiled and offered them another bow. "Pleased to meet you, please take care of me."
"Well, now that everyone knows each other," Kakashi started abruptly and clapped his hands, commanding their attention, "we've got a new case. No taking it easy for the first week, Takayama-san, you're going to be thrown in front of the wolves immediately."
"That's fine," she hastened to reassure and placed her bag on the empty desk next to her.
"What's the case about this time?" Shikamaru questioned and he seemed more alert now, as if the thought of a new case was enough to finally wake him up.
"A drugs related one," Kakashi replied and walked over to the white board, sticking a couple of pictures on it.
The pictures showcased three small bags, the black colour of it hiding whatever was in them. They were dropped on some kind of table in a shed from the looks of it and Ichika drifted closer to the board with the rest of them.
"Took a while before it showed up again, but some of the men found fentanyl when they were investigating a noise disturbance," Kakashi went on and tapped on the picture with the three bags. "Not a large amount as you can see, but we all know how dangerous fentanyl is and we need to find the source soon before we start finding dead bodies."
"Do we know where they bought the stuff?" Shino asked, tilting his head to the left.
"No, by the time the police showed up at the house, it was already empty. They must have fled the second they heard the car approach," Kakashi replied, frowning faintly.
"So we basically know nothing," Shikamaru surmised. "That's going to be lovely to solve."
"We're basically starting with empty hands, yes," Kakashi confirmed wryly before he looked at Sasuke. "Which is why I was thinking that perhaps you could contact your informant? See if he has heard anything about this?"
"You're asking a lot of him now," Sasuke warned, furrowing his eyebrows. "He's one of my best informants, but you're not giving him much to work with now."
"I know, but at this point in the investigation, he's our best shot at getting anywhere," Kakashi stated. "See if he wants to try at least. He always has a way of finding information."
"That's one way of putting it," Ino muttered underneath her breath.
"All right, that's settled then," Kakashi said and clapped his hands together. "Takayama-san, accompany him. Best way to learn the ropes regarding informants is witnessing it with your own eyes after all."
Ichika looked questioningly at Sasuke, not wanting to cross any boundaries, but it wasn't as if she could refuse a direct order from her boss either. She never had any informants of her own, so she couldn't help but be curious how you had to handle them.
Sasuke for his part looked slightly annoyed, but he nodded nevertheless and grabbed his jacket. "Come on, let's go. We might still catch him if we're on time."
Her first time dealing with an informant in some way – that was going to be interesting.
Sasuke parked the car near a primary school and Ichika couldn't help but be slightly confused about that, because a primary school didn't seem like a good place to have a conversation with an informant.
But then he started walking away from the car and she hastily followed, unsure whether she could ask him something. He had barely said anything in the car and she didn't know whether his silence meant that he either was a naturally quiet person or if he just disliked the fact that she was tagging along. If the latter was the case, then well, not much she could do about that when the boss had ordered them to go as a team.
"So, erm, how long has he been your informant?" she asked cautiously, when it didn't look like they were going to stop anywhere anytime soon.
They had been walking for more than ten minutes already and they were slowly nearing the more shady part of town with its sprawling dark alleys and semi abandoned buildings. Here everyone kept their gaze aimed at the ground unless they wanted to garner unwanted attention.
"Three years," Sasuke answered after a pause.
"Oh, how – how did you meet?" she asked awkwardly, knowing she was phrasing it incorrectly, because informants normally weren't met in a pub while sharing sake.
They were people who should have landed in prison for whatever crime they committed, but got a free pass in exchange for cooperating with the police and basically acting as some sort of snitch.
There was a hint of dark amusement in his voice when he replied, "Met him on the street while he was trying to sell himself. He got a bit too uppity with me, but as it turns out, he also knew a lot about a case I was working on back then. Made him a deal and here we are."
She felt like she was missing something here, some kind of clou that had him smirking like that, but before she could question him further, he suddenly turned into a small alley. She nearly tripped over her own feet in her haste to follow him and her eyes widened when they landed on the hunched form awaiting them at the back of the alley.
Some dumpsters were lined up against the brick wall of the building to their left and as they approached the hunched form, the person straightened up slowly, revealing that it was a man. He had messy dark red hair and was dressed in torn jeans, a white shirt and a faded jeans jacket. Multiple bracelets adorned his right wrist and when they came closer, she noticed he had dark green eyes.
The unknown man grinned at them; it was crooked and somewhat mischievous. "Well, hello there, you cheating on me there, Sasuke?"
Sasuke halted and rolled his eyes. "You give me enough work that I can't have anyone on the side," he quipped and the man's grin widened further.
"You blaming me here? Can't have anyone looking at what I have, no?" he said flirtingly.
Ichika could only stand there and watched with slightly widened eyes at the exchange. She hadn't expected them to act like … this.
"So what's up? Unless you're going to suggest a threesome, I'm going to guess you're here to be boring and give me another assignment," the man sighed and crossed his arms.
"Don't forget that these boring assignments are keeping you out of prison," Sasuke reminded him finely and the man grimaced. "We've got a drugs related one this time. When police examined a noise complaint, they instead found three bags of fentanyl."
"Eugh, that nasty stuff." The man wrinkled his nose. "Who the hell is stupid enough to work with that? You might as well blow your own brains out with a gun, makes shit easier."
"That's what the boss is hoping you can find out," Sasuke said calmly, resting his hands in his pockets. "We've got nothing to go on, save for those three bags, because the owners fled and haven't been spotted since. You think you can find out who's distributing this shit?"
The man slid his tongue across his teeth as he stared thoughtfully up at the sky. "Fentanyl is some fucked up shit, man. We're not talking about some dope or even coke here."
"We know," Sasuke said simply. "Which is why we need to find the source soon before dead bodies start showing up. Any of your men dealing in that?"
"That would be rather annoying," the man agreed lightly. "Some of the guys I know aren't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, but they wouldn't deal in this crap. What's the point in dealing in something when it kills your customers? Not really going to make bank then."
"I'm not even going to try to discover why people are stupid enough to deal in shit like that," Sasuke said dryly. "You can help me out with this or not, I need to know now."
"So impatient," the man tutted and waggled a finger. "For a pretty face like yours I do anything, you know that, but this is going to cost you, man. We're not talking about the small stuff here."
Sasuke waved a hand dismissively. "Send me the number and I'll make sure it's deposited before the weekend starts."
"Not even going to ask my price?" The man tilted his head to the left, his green eyes glinting. "Maybe I want a million this time, you going to provide that, babe?"
"Try asking that and see where that leaves you," Sasuke said dismissively. "Text me when you've got something and we'll set up the new place then."
"All right, darling," the man drawled with a smirk and his eyes briefly shot to Ichika before they landed back on Sasuke. "You working with a time limit here or?"
"Before anyone dies," Sasuke deadpanned. "You think you can manage that?"
"I'm not a miracle worker, but I'll see what I can do," the man snarked back and with a lofty wave he walked past them.
"Kurama, be careful," Sasuke surprised Ichika by warning the other man, his voice dead serious for the first time. "We're not talking about a simple dope dealer here."
"I know, I know, when have I ever not been careful?" Kurama briefly turned around to wink at him. "Don't you worry your pretty head over me, I'll be fine."
With another cheerful wave, he walked away, disappearing into a thrum of people walking past the alley.
"I thought you said he was a hooker?" Ichika said stumped, still taken aback by the entire conversation. The quips and barbs had been exchanged so quickly that she was still trying to wrap her mind around it. Was this how it went every time with an informant?
"Of sorts," Sasuke agreed. "But he has a way of getting people to talk and he knows everyone and everything. Nothing gets past him once he decides to stick his nose in someone's business."
"He looks rather young," she remarked carefully. He had barely looked eighteen to be honest and she wondered what kind of childhood had landed him on the streets. Not a good one, that was for sure.
"Hm, I suppose," was his non-committal reply. "Come on, let's go back. We can't do anything here until he texts me and I'd rather not attract any attention here."
No, she mused as she looked around the delipidated buildings when they made their way back to the car. This wasn't exactly a place where one might want to linger.
It made her question once more what had happened to Kurama that had landed him as an informant on the streets.
Young or not, Kurama definitely knew how to make people talk. Only two days later Sasuke had received both the name and the address of the fentanyl dealer, along with the hour when the next shipment would arrive.
"And he figured that all out on his own?" Ichika asked awed, watching Sasuke write down all the information.
The dealer in question was a thirty-one year old man named Biwa Juzo. He was already in the database, having been caught in the past for drug dealing and burglary. His picture was pinned onto the board, showing a surly looking man with no eyebrows, creases underneath his eyes and a cross shaped scar across his right cheek. He had dark grey eyes and short, spiky dark grey hair. A red grid shaped tattoo covered his lower face, making it look like he was perpetually grinning.
"Kurama is amazing," Ino said, nodding her head. "Honestly wish I was the one to snatch him up. Not that I can complain about my informants, but man, if Kurama isn't just a notch better."
"And he's absolutely certain of this information?" Kakashi asked, his arms crossed.
The next shipment would apparently arrive at the docks in two nights, at two a.m., which meant that the fentanyl was being imported and not made here.
"He wouldn't have texted me this if he wasn't," Sasuke said calmly. "Apparently fentanyl gets the street buzzing and people were more eager to talk than usual."
That someone as young as Kurama managed to round up this kind of sensitive information … It was honestly quite amazing, Ichika wasn't going to lie. And kind of worrisome as well, because in what kind of circles did this kid stay if he was able to pick up this sort of information? Drug dealers weren't people who were quick to babble and she would assume that people dealing in fentanyl would be even more cautious, given how dangerous and high priced this stuff was.
"So, what's the plan?" she asked curiously, shrugging off her worry.
She had no relation whatsoever with Kurama. He was Sasuke's informant and clearly knew what he was doing if he had been helping out the police for three years already. If she would worry about everyone they would come into contact with, the job would eventually consume her and she was determined not to let that happen. Care about people? Yes. But not to the point where it might influence how she did her job. She had worked too hard to get here and she wasn't going to let this opportunity slip through her fingers because she couldn't remain objective.
Kakashi's eyes glinted when he said, "We're going to help Biwa unload his shipment."
As the newest member of the team, Ichika was forced to remain behind with a couple of regular policemen, standing guard just in case one of the dealers tried to make a run for it.
It sucked to have to stay behind, she wasn't going to lie about that. She wanted in on the action as well, because why else had she wanted to join their team? But she was the newbie and she still had to prove herself, so for now she was going to stay behind.
Which turned out to be a good thing, because one of Biwa's men tried to make a run for it. The door on the left side of the building banging open was what alerted them to the fact that they had a runner and Ichika grabbed for her gun immediately when she spotted the gun gleaming in the guy's hand.
"Drop your weapon now!" she yelled, aiming hers at the guy. "Drop it now and get on your knees!"
The guy hesitated for just a second, looking like he was considering whether to take the risk or not and that second was all that was necessary for Shino to tackle him to the ground, having followed straight after him.
Ichika ran over to the wrestling pair, kicking away the gun before the guy could try to grab it and Shino managed to wrestle him onto his stomach, handcuffing him.
"You got everyone?" she asked, lowering her gun when it became clear that nobody else was about to rush out of the building.
"Yes, they were with four. Got everyone and the drugs as well," Shino confirmed and stood up, dragging the guy back onto his feet. Shino flashed her a quick smile. "Good work here."
"I didn't do much," she replied embarrassedly, her cheeks flushing.
"You helped out," he insisted. "For your first time doing a bust, you did great, trust me."
"Well, all right, thanks," she said bashfully and rubbed her cheek, which felt quite hot underneath her touch.
She still wasn't sure whether the praise was entirely deserved, when she had barely done anything, but at least she hadn't fucked up during her first real assignment so …
It could only go up from here, she decided optimistically as she helped get the dealers into the cars. And once she'd proven her worth, she wouldn't have to remain behind anymore either, she was sure.
He was contemplating whether it would still be worth it to go to sleep when his alarm clock would ring in just a couple of hours anyway, walking to the kitchen after having taken a shower when a shadow near the kitchen counter had him abruptly halting.
"You seriously got me as 'Brother' in your phone?" Naruto wrinkled his nose, waving Sasuke's phone in the air. "That's so weird, what's your actual brother under then?"
"Failed Experiment," Sasuke replied dryly, stopping just a few feet away from him. "Why were you looking through my phone?"
"Failed Experiment? Why?" Naruto asked perplexed. "Your phone was lightening up with a message and I got curious. It's how I saw our message thread."
"Well, obviously he was a failed experiment if my parents decided to have a second child," the dark haired man smirked before sobering up. "You okay?"
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"I know you didn't simply have to talk to Tsunade to get this kind of information," Sasuke said quietly.
Naruto grimaced and looked away, placing the phone back on the counter. He wasn't wearing the red wig nor the green contacts anymore and the layer of makeup was gone as well. Dressed in a simple pair of dark jeans, an orange shirt and a puffy jacket, with his blond hair in disarray and his blue eyes glinting in the harsh T-light, the six marks on his cheeks standing out against his slightly tanned skin, nobody would be able to recognise him as Kurama, the red haired, green eyed, loud mouthed kid who roamed the streets and wrapped anyone around his finger to the point they talked about whatever he wanted to hear.
Even when knowing the truth, it jarred Sasuke every time to see the contrast between the two sides of Naruto. It was unsettling just how much a wig and some contacts could completely change Naruto's personality, like flipping a switch.
"No, though she did help," he admitted and gnawed on his lip. "Had to dig a bit deeper this time, but luckily people like to talk about this sort of thing. You got everyone?"
"Yes, including the drugs," Sasuke confirmed and walked over to the fridge to grab two bottles of water. "Your information helped out a lot, thanks. Kakashi was delirious about how quickly we solved this case – well, as delirious as he can be, of course."
"You out of everyone have no right to judge him for being emotionless," Naruto snickered, accepting the bottle with a nod. "Who was the new chick, by the way? You never introduced us."
"Saw no reason to." Sasuke shrugged, leaning against the kitchen counter. "Takayama Ichika, new member of the team. She joined the same day we met up."
"Huh. So what did you tell her about me? Because she had to have had questions, right?" Naruto smirked, cursing when it took him a couple of tries to open the bottle.
"Hm, she was curious how we met."
"Oh, do tell me, what did you say?" Naruto grinned, his eyes glistening.
Sasuke smirked. "That we met when you were trying to sell yourself and you got a bit too uppity with me."
Blue eyes rolled in exasperation. "I would hardly call it selling myself when you're the only one I ever fucked," he remarked and discarded the bottle on the counter before drifting closer to Sasuke, fiddling with the knot of his bathrobe.
"Good thing I picked you up back then, hm?" Sasuke eyed the fingers tracing the belt. "Or are you going to tell me you want to get fucked by strangers?"
Naruto pulled a face, his hands pausing. "Eugh, you know I don't want that. Why the hell would I want to get fucked by someone else when I've got you?"
"That's the correct answer, good boy," Sasuke said tauntingly before crushing their lips together in a deep, almost punishing kiss.
Naruto moaned, giving in for a couple of seconds, before he pulled away and scowled at him. "You know I hate it when you call me that," he complained, gripping the bathrobe. "Makes you sound like a goddamn pimp, I don't know."
"You still stay in that world, right?"
At once the atmosphere between them grew tense as blue eyes looked away, a frown marring the blond's face. Sasuke hated seeing that look on Naruto's face, hated that frown, hated how Naruto's life on the streets kept standing in between them, keeping them from being completely together.
Three years they had been doing this, three years in which Sasuke had Kurama the informant helping out the police, while spending the nights with Naruto, his lover. Nobody on the team knew who Kurama really was, had no idea that he and Sasuke were actually lovers. Perhaps Kakashi had some kind of clue, because for all the nonchalance he portrayed, the older man was sharp and noticed things.
Nobody knew that there was something more between Sasuke and his informant, something which had them clinging to each other tightly during the nights they could steal. Something which had them driving out of town during the rare moments they could spend the whole day with each other, moments where they weren't an inspector and an informant, but just Sasuke and Naruto, two men in love with each other.
Three years of sneaking around, of worrying whether this assignment might be too much for Naruto, the one that might see him hurt or worse, killed. Three years of lying awake at night, watching Naruto sleep in his arms, wondering how long they could keep up this ruse.
Three years of wanting more, but taking what they could get.
"Do we really need to do this now?" Naruto asked sulking. "I haven't seen you in a week and this is how you want to spend the night? Man, I might as well have shacked up with Gaara then."
He made as if to turn around to leave, but Sasuke was quicker, grasping his arm tightly and halting him.
"What, bastard?" Naruto asked exasperatedly, glaring at him. "If you just want to fight, I'm out of here, I don't need that shit now."
"Stay with me," Sasuke said determined, his heart beating just a tad faster.
"Well, that was the plan, before you decided to be an arsehole," Naruto retorted scathingly. "But seeing as you like to remind me what my place is, I - "
"No, stay with me. Always."
"I – I don't get it," Naruto said uncertainly, eyeing him warily. "What are you saying?"
"No more Kurama. Just you and me, what do you think?" His mouth was dry as a desert right now, but his eyes stayed locked onto those blue eyes, the ones which had made him fall head over heels three years ago when they had stared defiantly up at him and ones which never failed to set him alight even now.
"You want me to stop being an informant," Naruto said slowly as if he was testing out the words in his mouth.
"I want you to stay with me, yes. I don't want you to put yourself in danger anymore," Sasuke said, releasing his grasp only to grab Naruto's hand instead. "I hate wondering each time whether this assignment will be the one to do you in. I hate getting calls about dead bodies near places where you are supposed to be then that day. I hate not knowing whether tonight's going to be the night when I won't see you again."
Naruto licked his lips. "I – I might have to move out of town. I – Kurama is different from me and they won't recognise me as I am now, but – I don't think it'd be safe to stay here."
"Then we leave," Sasuke said easily and to him it was as easy as watching the sunrise, because it was something he had been thinking about for a long time now, every time he had Naruto's body curled up against his.
Just leave and start somewhere anew, a place where they could just be them, where Naruto could be Naruto and wouldn't have to be Kurama any longer. A place where they were both safe and no longer risking their lives.
Naruto chuckled incredulously, shaking his head. "What, just like that?" he questioned in disbelief.
"Just like that. You say the word and we leave."
"Your job," Naruto protested.
"Can be done everywhere else," Sasuke finished and grasped his other hand as well. "I can do something else, go work for my brother's company. The bastard wouldn't mind, I'm sure. He looked like a kicked puppy the day I decided to go to the police academy, so he'd be over the moon to have me at his company."
"But you've always been a cop," Naruto said, shaking his head wearily. "Why change that now?"
"Because the adrenaline of it all isn't worth losing you over it," Sasuke said quietly. "I'd rather work together with my brother and be able to see you every day, than having to steal moments like now, as if we're criminals who have to sneak around."
"I – you're sure about this?" Naruto looked uncertainly, torn between hopeful and wary. "If we leave, you won't change your mind? You won't hold it against me?"
"I'm the one suggesting it," Sasuke reminded him and rested his hands on his hips, pulling him flush against him. "I wouldn't have suggested this if I wasn't certain about it. I want you and I don't want to sneak around any longer. What do you say? Ready to start over?"
Slinging his arms around Sasuke's neck, Naruto stood on his tiptoes so that his mouth brushed against Sasuke's when he answered, "You want me, you got me. To the end of the world and back."
"To the end of the world," Sasuke smiled and when they kissed next, it was soft but not less filled with passion.
Things were going to get quite hectic for the next foreseeable future as they would have to arrange a lot of things to start their new life together, but Sasuke was more than okay with that.
Because in the end they were finally going to be together and Sasuke would do whatever it took to get that: a future of their own.
The End
AN2: I literally have no clue what I was thinking. I might return to this universe if I get inspired again or so, unless you really think this one sucked, in which case, ouch, but all right, I'd understand it.
Now allow me to slink back to my other stories now that my mind is finally cleared of this idea .-.
Please leave your thoughts behind in a review; should you spot any mistakes, please point them out to me.
I hope to see you all back in my future stories! (Which will hopefully be less weird and random than this one). Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
