The sun slowly set in Sunagakure. It had been an unbearable hot day in the desert of the village hidden in the sand.A raven haired young woman stood on the rooftop of the Kazekage's tower in the middle of the village. Her hands intertwined in front of her chest. Pale lavender eyes filled with tears stared at the endless widths.
"Hinata?" a gentle voice caught her attention. The woman turned around to face a certain blonde, her spiky hair into four ponytails. She wore a short black bodysuit, a fishnet shirt and shorts underneath, showing at her shoulders and legs, over the suit a lavender protector, black gloves that didn't cover the tip of her fingers and black boots reaching almost to her knees.
"Temari..." the Hyuga whispered, trying to hold back the tears. She didn't want Temari to think badly of her.
The woman walked up to her to lay a hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay... No need to hold back..." the blonde sighed and looked at the sun slowly disappearing behind the horizon.
"I'm here, Kankuro is here. We won't let him hurt you." Temari's promise got to Hinata but actually this wasn't the reason she felt the urge to cry.
Today was Hinata's first day at Sunagakure after her father had sold her to Sabaku no Rasa. She had to get married to his youngest son. The red haired demon, the Shukaku container, the cold hearted, aggressive murderer, Gaara of the Sand. Rasa, the current Kazekage of Suna, thought a forced marriage would maybe get his son under control. Hinata couldn't understand what they were thinking, what they hoped for her to do. She would never be able to "heal" Gaara.
"Are you mad at your father?" Temari asked her still looking at the horizon in front of them.
The raven haired woman nodded slowly.
"Why did he sell you?"
Hinata sighed deeply. She didn't want to talk about it but she was talking to the eldest daughter of the Kazekage and she was guest in Suna. It would be impolite not to answer her...
"My father always searched for a reason to get rid of me. I was too weak, a disappointment to our clan, I would never be able to take the lead. I once was the heiress of our clan. Now my little sister will replace me. Since I was a little girl he put great pressure on his daughters... He expected way too much of us. I could never fulfil his expectations. When I became a Kunoichi, I befriended myself to Sasuke Uchiha after he returned from Orochimaru. He was the only one who understood the pressure a great Clan can put on yourself. Hyuga and Uchiha hate each other... when my father learned about our close friendship... He had no reason to let me stay at our house anymore. I had betrayed him and our clan. So he... Sold me to Suna..."
Temari looked at the woman next to her with wide eyes.
"I have no idea how this must feel like..." she whispered, intertwining her hand with Hinata's as a sign of empathy. Hinata smiled sadly but felt less alone due to Temari's warm hand.
"Have you ever seen Gaara again after these Chunin exams?"
Hinata shook her head.
"I haven't. I just heard stories about him. He is friends with Naruto now but I'm not sure if I... I mean I'm not Naruto... And Shukaku still lives in him, right?"
Temari glanced at her and lead her to the towers entry.
"Let's ehm.. Let's go inside. I'm going to show you where you're going to live... from.. Now on..." she ignored Hinata's question. That seemed weird to Hinata. Did she say something wrong?
Kankuro sat in the Kazekage's office helping his father with his paperwork. The old man looked tired, stressed and unsatisfied. Kankuro wasn't sure if he had ever seen his father smiling. He and Gaara were really similar. Cold, silent, dark and cruel. Kankuro knew his little brother was not a monster, Shukaku made him do things he didn't want to do. Due to many disappointments and hurt Gaara had decided to only love and trust himself. Shukaku made him believe that this was the only reason he was alive. Kankuro knew under his cold facade hid a little boy, crying, in a need of affection, closeness and love. The brown haired man was sure his brother just needed someone to show him that he was worth to be loved and cared of. Hinata, the pure, sweet Hyuga, seemed to be the perfect woman for it.
Kankuro really hoped she could help him. Because unlike every other person, accept Temari, Kankuro knew the real Gaara. The sweet boy who only wanted to be a part of a family, who wanted to play in the sand with his siblings, who wanted his father's love.
"Kankuro" his father suddenly said coldly, still looking at the papers in front of him.
"Go tell your brother, the wedding will be this weekend. And talk to the Hyuga girl as well. Temari shall help her get ready."
Kankuro didn't move, he just sat there, waiting for more instructions.
Rasa looked at him, his eyes glistening in annoyance.
"Now!" he snapped at his son and Kankuro stoop up immediately and left his room.
Closing the door behind him he released a breath he didn't know he was holding in.
"Fucking asshole..." Kankuro whispered to himself angrily and made his way to Hinata's room.
