Just another one of my oneshots, I’ve been getting a lot of ideas lately and this one I have to admit, I looked forward to writing the most. There’s just something about these two characters that are unexplored and missed and I hope that this one little story will open up a better understanding. But anyways, just a stern warning. This is considered incest as Shisui is Itachi’s cousin and also Shisui is two years older in this story, just to give it a bit more of an edge. Just for reference, I imagined writing Shisui with the Yondaime’s voice as I think the gentleness but sternness would suit him best. I hope you guys enjoy, I don’t have more of an author’s note except that I hope you enjoy it.
'Our time is running out, Itachi.' Shisui said softly...truthfully. Dark black locks swaying softly to the wiles of the wind as infinitely dark eyes gazed longingly at the approaching dusk across the horizon. Where within that horizon brewed the perfect melange of reds, dark blues and magentas. All reaching their coloured tendrils across the vast sky hanging above the dipping valley's proud outline. Unreadable emotions lingering upon a contemplative expression as the older of the two shinobi allowed a dejected sigh to pass his petal pink lips. Shisui's beautiful dark eyes, as infinitely beautiful as they always were to Itachi, were but a brief reprieve to the foreboding sensation that he felt building itself in the pit of his stomach. To Itachi, his cousin's calmed and sorrowful presence that afternoon in the fading light was ethereal and spiritual-like, as if he already knew all the deepest darkest secrets of the ever changing universe. Where, reclining lazily against the bark of an old tree, he was like a guardian spirit proudly protecting Konohagakura no Sato spread out beneath his firmly planted feet. The sun's last rays kissed the carved faces upon Hokage Mountain in reprieve just as Shisui reached out his left hand. Fingers curling into a protective fist before he pointed it towards the distant outline of their home. It was as if he held a single promise in his tightly clenched fist that only he could protect and understand. A tender expression of love and serenity tugging his lips upward in a ghost of a smile as he tilted his head upwards to look at Itachi. 'I guess us lazily biding our time, trying to escape the dark clutches of hate that encircle our accursed clan, has come to a definitive end.' The shorter shinobi reminded Itachi darkly. A light of sorrow, so deep and inconsolable, shimmered suddenly in dark red eyes partially hidden by pale eyelids and long black lashes. 'Itachi ne, I've thought of many ways to protect what is dearest to me, dearest to us and for that you know that I'd willingly sacrifice my life for this village...for the future that it holds and the joy that blooms at the birth of every new generation...' 'But I've come to realize one important thing.' A frighteningly new resolve sparked determinedly upon Shisui's brow. 'If I stay here and continue to lazily bide my time and hope for the best, I am only going to place those I love in even more danger.' Itachi shifted uncomfortably on the high branch he was balanced upon. At the simple wave of his cousin's beckoning hand though, Shisui had him jumping from his firm purchase to land gracefully on his hands and feet. Offering a grateful nod to the older shinobi when his cousin held out his hand for him. Long and elegant fingers curling around his wrist before Shisui tugged Itachi closer to his side, leaving their fingers twined together intimately for several moments longer than needed before he pulled away again. The gentle warmth that Itachi felt radiating from his cousin's body so close to his own, forced him to take several deep breaths just to calm his erratically racing heart. Reflecting upon the many years that he had walked beside his cousin, forever looking upon Shisui's ever prideful but benevolent back that was always just out of his reach, Itachi took in an unexpectedly hitching breath. Hoping deep inside, wishing for nothing more than to stay by his cousin's side forever so that they could protect what had become so precious to both of them. But now, as he gazed upon his cousin's smaller frame but wholly determined expression out of the corner of his eye, Itachi could see that Shisui and his impeccable Will of Fire was leaving Itachi behind in the darkness again. Shisui had surpassed his genius cousin once more. Leaving Itachi more than convinced that Shisui would forever remain out of his reach — his slowly fading back the only reminder that Itachi had once stood next to Shisui and fought with him as his cousin got ever stronger and further and further away. His presence, whether there or not, would forever drive the younger cousin insane with his need to get closer...to understand more...to unravel what drove his cousin to protect with so much strength and determination. But, as Shisui was now, a loyal friend and a gentle comfort to the younger shinobi, Itachi wanted nothing more that to continue to stay by his side. He knew though, only from the few words that Shisui had just spoken to him in confidence, it was getting to be an increasingly impossible task. And with every second that ticked away within his mind's eye, the proud symbol of the Uchiha that was forever branded onto Shisui's back was now once again upon a far away and distant horizon that Itachi could never hope to reach. And the deep knowing of that simple fact caused his heart to clench painfully in his chest with realization. Shisui would leave him behind for real this time. And this time Itachi would not get the chance to protect what was most dear to his ever beating heart. 'Are you planning on leaving?' Itachi asked dejectedly. A frown furrowing the brow of his usually stoic expression as Shisui shifted next to him, uncomfortable under his scrutiny and concerned gaze. His Sharingan red eyes now staring into the distance as a tired sigh passed his partly parted lips. A watery but yearning smile crept upon Shisui's serene expression as he gave a decisive nod to Itachi's concerned question. With the sun beginning the last stages of its descent into the west, a golden shimmer bathed the elder of the Uchiha's in a light Itachi had never before taken the time to notice. Playing across Shisui's delectably pale skin and messy black hair that he so desperately wanted to run his fingers through. 'You've never spoken much, Itachi. Always so quiet, always so knowing...always striving to understand more. You've always known what it was that was written in my heart, what it was that I desired the most and just as you had said so long ago, a fight for these accursed eyes of mine is an inevitable we cannot avoid.' Shisui noted regretfully and Itachi inclined his head to the side with curiosity. Shisui, under the intense scrutiny of Itachi's curious dark eyes, threw an arm across his dark eyes to hide the shimmer of regretful tears that had collected in the corner of his lashes. Itachi on the other hand, could only gaze with fascination at his cousin's reactions to his presence. It was rare for Shisui to be so sentimental in his talks, to show so much emotion and conviction upon his features and in his actions. But for a moment spent in silence close to each other, Itachi understood exactly what was going on without his cousin having to say the inevitable. For the first time since they had fought enemies side by side, Shisui was being utterly serious. This wasn't just some talk, some light-hearted banter between cousins and friends... No...this was something that had been bothering both him and Shisui for a while now. Something they had yet to solve. 'Is that why you are—.' 'Itachi-ya (1*). You know that I would never want to willingly place you in harm's way,' Shisui interrupted suddenly. 'But the time has come for me to take my leave and bow out of this farce of a play before it spirals out of control.' The older shinobi admitted with finality that could not be ignored. 'I cannot protect this village the way I want to anymore. My eyes, even though I can clearly see a shinning future with them and know what I need to do with them, are only going to cause more heated conflict amongst our clan and the world outside of it.' 'Not only is your father heading a dangerous plan of hatred and conflict against the village I love, but there is a great power that lies within my eyes that would grant success to those terrifying plans. You know it, you said it yourself and despite the failure and resistance you've come up against; you've valiantly been protecting me from the inside.' 'But it won't work anymore, Itachi-ya. Not with the strained relationship you two now share.' Itachi cast his eyes downward; the words spilling from Shisui's lips and heart were breaking him apart. He didn't want to hear this, even when he knew it was just bitter fate making itself known. 'Shisui you know I will always protect you. Even if it costs me my li—.' 'I know!' Shisui yelled suddenly. Black eyes flashed deep red in anger before fingers fisted in Itachi's protective jacket. Shisui hastily rounded on his cousin before he yanked Itachi forward. Hitai-ate clashed against Hitai-ate with screaming metal as he overestimated his strength and brought their bodies close together in an intimate touch that left their faces only mere millimetres apart. Itachi couldn't help the shiver that his cousin's unexpected touch brought forth, though. They were so close that Itachi could literally feel Shisui's warm breath fanning out across his sensitized lips. The utterly sweet sensation automatically made Itachi part his own lips to let out a small breath of enjoyment. His slightly taller body leaning possessively against the smaller shinobi that was pressing so boldly against him. In that moment, where his eyes lidded behind black lashes in enjoyment, Itachi wanted nothing more than to lean forward...to slide his lips across Shisui's, to taste if they were as sweet as they looked, to take his cousin's breath into his own lungs, to taste Shisui's saliva upon his tongue...to touch...to explore this new burning sensation racing through his body...to—. 'But! Listen closely Amai-Itachi (2*), my sweet little cousin. I cannot let you throw your life away for me.' Shisui's sorrowfully whispered words slowly but effectively tugged Itachi back to the reality of the situation. 'You have a destiny much larger and important than mine. You still have a sweet little otouto to look after and protect, Itachi. One that needs you now more than ever.' The older of the two Shinobi's dark eyes bored threateningly into Itachi's; daring him to protest against the truth he was speaking. 'So tonight, when the blood moon strikes ten, I'll be by the Uchiha River. I need your help to set up a fake suicide. It is, after all, not so hard to accomplish these days, especially not with my genius cousin by my side.' Shisui praised softly with a smile, tender fingers burying themselves in Itachi's long black locks as Shisui brought their noses together in a brief touch of reminiscence. It had been their old greeting of companionship and promised secrecy a long time ago, a small act of companionship that made Itachi yearn for more. But just as he was about to slip forward to taste those plump, teasing, lips, Shisui pulled away. Breaking the contact far too soon for Itachi's liking as several warring sensation now clouded the younger Shinobi's mind and rapidly heating body. Before he could blink and question the dusting of pink that peppered Shisui's cheeks, his cousin had already leapt to the branch of a nearby tree with the aid of chakra. Once again straying out of Itachi's reach with only the Uchiha symbol upon his back... 'I'm counting on you, Itachi. Ja ne!' And with his hand raised in a final wave, Uchiha Shisui disappeared towards Hokage Mountain. Leaving behind a bewildered Itachi that was leaning heavily against the tree for support. His heart chasing a yearning heat through his veins along with heated shivers of arousal that he simply could not understand or control no matter how he tried. ~~~~ 'Damn it!' Shisui cursed softly. His fingers flying across a blank scroll as he wrote down his 'suicide note' as Itachi had directed him to. However, with his cousin looming over his shoulder, every now and then correcting a word to the short message he was noting down, he could already feel an unknown nervousness binding itself to his stomach and stalling his breath in his chest. He was leaving behind everything that he lived for here in Konoha. Leaving behind the home that he had known and loved. Leaving behind his adoptive family that had sworn to protect him since his father's death, the first year he had entered the Academy. And both through difficult times and a painful past, Shisui was forced to leave behind the peace and comfort that he had found within his two year younger cousin and his little otouto. Even though Shisui was worried that his conviction of setting the bar higher and higher for Itachi to catch up to him as time had passed through their childhood, it would eventually become the beginning of a bitter rivalry between them. However, as he briefly glimpsed that familiar stoic expression hovering over his shoulder, he realized that Itachi felt no such obligation. For within those infinitely dark eyes, he only observed admiration, a respect of the bond that bound them, love and a subtle sorrow that was caused by his conviction to leave. The rare display of emotions caused Shisui to smile sadly though. Within his hated clan, no matter how Itachi tried to protect him, there would never be acceptance for his protective ideologies and insatiable love for the village. Not when their own hatred consumed them like the curse that it was and whilst he himself was given no other option but to run before everything shattered and flew out of control... 'We are running out of time, Shisui. The meeting in the Uchiha Shrine is almost over.' Itachi cautioned. A protective hand clasping around his shoulder to ground Shisui's spinning thoughts and uncontrollable emotions. Looking at Itachi now, standing by his side as he committed the ultimate treason within the Uchiha Clan. This time when Shisui's tears finally came and hopelessness consumed his body, he let them completely overwhelm him. Allowing for several of the saline drops to stain the scroll that he was writing on. He somehow managed to stop himself before a sob could lodge itself in his throat, but the gentle squeeze that Itachi gave his shoulder almost instantly caused him to hesitate in his decision. With his mind working hard in suppressing the emotions that washed over his entire body and weakened his internal resolve, Shisui could only take a deep breath and hope for the best. It was the remembered conversation between Uchiha Fugaku and one of his fellow conspirator's earlier that day that quickly dismissed his bout of hesitation, though. Forcing him to swallow his pride and love to protect what was most dear. Forcing him to show his hand and run before things got much worse than it already was for him and little Itachi... 'The tears are a nice touch, Shisui-nii. It will definitely be more real when they find it tomorrow.' Itachi said impressed. Helping the older of the two shinobi to his feet with a tug of his hand despite the angry scowl that now decorated his cousin's beautiful features. Itachi couldn't understand why Shisui was having such a negative reaction to his words of praise. However, as he watched Shisui stumble towards the end of the peer with hidden resolve, he felt a touch of regret colouring his heart and followed dutifully behind him. 'Damn it, Itachi! You Baka (3*)!'Shisui swore suddenly before a small sigh deflated his anger. Pulling a large Sealing Scroll from his back, Shisui rested it by his feet before he crouched at the edge of the peer. Fingers dipping down into the cold water that lapped at his skin eagerly. Where, despite the disturbance that he had caused, the natural body of water was like a mirror in the light of the moon that night. Not a single touch of the softly blowing breeze disturbed the distilled surface. Not even the proud song of a stay owl could console the sorrow that seemed to weep deeply within the depths of the water and effect a stray heart. 'These tears are not for show, Itachi-ya.' Shisui hissed suddenly. 'I'm genuinely heartbroken that I have to leave you. My family and everything that I have lived for up until now will be left behind. All be—.' Shisui was forced to trail off as a set familiar arms snaked around his waist and tugged him closer in an uncharacteristic show of affection. Itachi's taller frame easily moulded to Shisui's body. Bringing them together in a warm embrace that spoke volumes of the emotions that both of them were feeling. With his cousin resting his chin upon his shoulder, Shisui could feel the tension within his body draining away from his consciousness. All his misgivings, fears and reluctance to leave almost disappearing instantly at the gentle touch. Shisui really needed to get a grip on himself, he thought harshly. But no matter how his mind protested though, he still rested his nose against the soft fabric of Itachi's shirt. Closing his eyes at the small pleasure that he found nestled against Itachi, his fingers even curling possessively in his cousin's clothes as if he never wanted to let him go. And he really did not want to let go, especially now that he knew he would be disappearing into obscurity and never coming back. 'I didn't want to get you in trouble because of my selfishness, Itachi-ya. But thank you for coming with me.' Shisui said softly, sincerely. Taking in the sweet scent of dango and cinnamon that clung to Itachi's body one last time, Shisui memorised every contour of Itachi's gentle embrace for later reference. Even when the older shinobi soon disentangled himself from the gentle show of comfort that he had been offered, the sleeve of his blue shirt provided more than enough power to wipe away the slowly dripping tears carving a path down his cheeks. Placing the scroll he had just written on the edge of the peer and securing it with a hastily thrown kunai, Shisui jumped onto the surface of the water and easily balanced himself with his chakra. Nodding his consent to Itachi, the younger of the two picked up Shisui's large Sealing Scroll and headed for the other side of the lake. It was the signal to start their plan and hope for the best as it progressed through the night in utter secrecy. With one last breath for good luck, Shisui suddenly stopped his chakra flow to his feet and plummeted into the freezing water below. Good, that splash should have been heard by the home closest to the river by now. However, as he was submerged within the icy cold water of the river, it came to the hardest part of their plan. Managing to keep himself submerged for several minutes to not only stain the water with his scent but to simultaneously dampen his own. It had been planned that when he swam to other side of the river, Itachi would be waiting for him at the edge of the water. He would then exchange his wet clothes for a pair of Itachi's clothes before he could take to the trees to make his escape. With the plummeting water temperature though, it chased a dangerously numbing sensation through his body. Shisui barely had enough time to think before he was already hastily making his way across the river to the other side. 'You're prowess in the water is dwindling, Shisui-nii.' Itachi muttered as the older of the two cousin's finally emerged from the depths of the lake and balanced himself upon the water's surface. Heaving for breath and struggling to bring his shivering body under control, Shisui could not help but openly glare at Itachi's nonchalant attitude towards his immense achievement. Those dark eyes sweeping appreciatively across his dampened body and dripping clothes though, made Shisui shudder for an entirely different reason and caused him to turn his head to the side to hide the flush across his cheeks. 'The water's cold, damn it!' Shisui bit out eventually. 'I think a time delay is only natural.' He cursed, fingers curling into a fist of frustration by his side as he jumped onto solid ground and headed for the canopy of trees. Shisui swallowed his darker retort at Itachi's snort of disbelief before things could get more dangerous than they were. His body automatically leapt into the air to catch the large Sealing Scroll that Itachi threw at him unceremoniously. The heavy object may nearly have knocked him to the ground if Shisui had not somehow managed to dig his feet into the earth before he could fall over. A deadly narrowing of his eyes was Itachi's only warning not to test Shisui's anger anymore. Where the older shinobi had already turned his back on his cousin and headed deeper into the canopy of trees to change. 'The water cannot be that cold, Shisui-nii. Especially not when you are as energetic as you are now.' Itachi retorted to no one in particular. Leaning lazily against the bark of a tree with a sigh spilling from his lungs. Itachi could finally take a moment to relax. Things were all going according to plan: the suicide note was perfectly placed next to Shisui's pouch of weapons, his katana and flak-jacket. The dampening of Shisui's scent had already been taken care of by jumping into the river's cleansing water and now all that was left was for him to change into Itachi's clothes. The only problem now was slipping through the Konohagakura no Sato's sealing barrier without being detected. Itachi smirked to himself. With the both of them being a part of ANBU, it gave them the great advantage of remaining invisible when slipping through the barrier. Closing his eyes briefly, Itachi allowed his senses to be stretched and tested. It was the deliberate snap of a twig a few feet away from his range of vision that startled him, though. Slipping several kunai between his fingers without even thinking, Itachi was just about to let loose a volley of deadly precision before he glimpsed Shisui form lazily entering the clearing. With a small breath of relief, Itachi smiled briefly as he appraised the all black attire now clinging seductively to his cousin's body. 'Don't stare, Itachi-ya! I'm self-conscious enough of my lack of height as it is.' His cousin pointed out, deliberately dragging Itachi's eyes towards the oversized shirt and the pant legs that were rolled up to Shisui's angles. For him, there was not a better sight that could have greeted him. It was just sad that Shisui was not wearing his clothes for an entirely different reason. 'Hn...but I like looking down on you like this.' Itachi teased with a smirk. Barely dodging the angered punch that was thrown his way with Shisui's growl of heated anger. 'I'm going to kill you one day, Teme(4*)! Just you wait!' Itachi's soft laughter of enjoyment was soon silenced as both their figures become a blur of movement when they headed towards the forest surrounding Konoha. Where, with a simple wave of three seals and a touch of their chakra, the barrier parted and let them pass without alerting the ANBU Sealing Corps of their movement. It was only as they approached the halfway point though, two hours into their journey together, that Itachi was to forced to rapidly slow his movements. Coming to a halt upon a lone tree, Itachi hastily turned his eyes towards the fast approaching dawn. When Shisui sensed his slowing presence though, he also halted his steps before retracing his movements so that he could land next to his cousin's still form several seconds later. The air around them had become tainted with the words that neither could speak, that neither wished to whisper as they knew the approaching dawn was going to separate them that morning. Casting his eyes across Shisui's composed but determined features, Itachi felt his shoulders slumping a bit. Nothing he was going to say was going to convince Shisui to come home with him anymore. So instead he offered an awkward hand shake of goodbye. He was completely thrown when Shisui slapped his hand aside with annoyance before pulling him into a warm embrace instead. 'Itachi-ya, just because I was angry at you doesn't mean we cannot say a proper goodbye.' Shisui felt no disappointment at Itachi stiffened response to his embrace. That was usually how Itachi was, awkward with physical contact when others first initiated it. But for one last time he wanted to feel those gentle arms that he knew would protect him and Itachi's little brother when the time came one day. With his head resting against a gently beating heart, Shisui smiled sorrowfully with a final decision. 'I'll only tell you where I am going because I want to see you at least one more time before we both die.' Shisui promised. Fingers scrunching the black material of Itachi's shirt between his fingers as he took in a deep shuddering breath. 'On my last mission to Suna, the Yondiame Kazekage asked me to look after and control his youngest, Jinchuriki son. I accepted if he would shield my presence from Konoha.' And with that said, Shisui felt the need to pull back. Readying himself to bow and take his leave, only, he was instantly startled when Itachi's right arm gripped the small of his back and kept him firmly in place. His left hand easily tilting Shisui's chin between a forefinger and thumb so that their eyes could collide in a whisper of colours 'Before you go,' Itachi whispered sadly. 'I want to taste those sweet lips at least once. They have been driving me insane for several years now.' And before Shisui's could voice his confusion and protest, his thoughts flew out of the window when soft, moist, lips slid softly over his own. The sensation caused a small groan of pleasure to slide into his mouth and tickle up his spine. The newly awakened sensations twined around the pit of his stomach as a surprisingly clumsy tongue pried his lips apart and entered his mouth with a determination to please. It was sweet. The kiss was so achingly sweet and tender that Shisui leaned further into Itachi's touch. With his Hitai-ate now resting against Itachi's forehead as the elder of the two showed Itachi how to twine tongues together and play for moans of pleasures. Shisui guided Itachi through a proper, erotic kiss that left even him startled and wanting more than what he was given. But a decisive pinch to Itachi's upper arm pulled them apart again. With Shisui panting for breath, his heart racing a wild rhythm against his chest, he stutteringly drew several long breaths of fighting pleasure into his lungs. With his cheeks coloured pink in embarrassment at the enjoyment he had found, he leaned up one more time to place a chaste kiss upon Itachi's lips in parting and to regain a lingering taste of sweetness. He didn't even want to think of the all the taboos he had just broken within his family. But going by the Uchiha's tendency of falling in love with only those part of the clan, it wasn't as bad as it seemed. So, with a small smile in acceptance of Itachi's overwhelming feelings, he whispered a final goodbye within his cousin's ear before he jumped to the next tree branch before he did something he would later regret. 'Hopefully we'll meet again someday, Itachi. Then we can explore these simmering feelings lingering in our hearts further.' And with that, Shisui had to bite back his bitter tears as he headed towards the Konoha border. Long after that simple kiss from Itachi, Shisui would still taste the sweet and sensual slide of lips against his...the touch of comfort that he felt and the definitive arousal that chased his blood through his veins in a heated rhythm only a fantasy could ever bring to life. ~~~~Five Years Later~~~~ Itachi sighed irritably at the brush of the harsh desert wind against his skin. His Akatsuki partner, Hoshigaki Kisame, had finally left him by himself for a change. Deciding to take several days to go and plunder some remote town close to the Fire Country's border, Itachi could finally breathe a small sigh of relief. With three days to himself and without being in the sights of their leader, Itachi finally took off his restrictive black and red cloak before sealing it into his travelling scroll. Swapping his scored Hitai-ate with a spare, unmarred one, Itachi breathed a sigh of relief as his body's movements no longer felt restricted. He only used a simple henge to change his appearance a little. Shortening his hair and lengthening his bangs to hide his eyes from the world, Itachi changed very little of his true appearance as he knew it would not take much to fool the guards of the village about his identity. It was only a few hours of harsh travel across the desert plane before he reached Sunagakura, and hopefully, just as Shisui had said so long ago, his older cousin would still be there, waiting for him, even if he knew what Itachi had done. With a false pass created for situations just like these, a fake name and fake mission papers forged in the hand of the Sandaime Hokage, Itachi was assured that it would not take much to slip through the wind shinobi's defences for a day or so. And after so many years spent in pain and living in the shadows of society with the guilt of what he had been forced to do, Itachi had finally built up enough resolve and courage to finally face the blinding light of hope that was Shisui within his heart again. He smiled to himself in remembrance. He had never forgotten their last goodbye. The parting kiss they had shared and the sweet cherry lips that had slid so deliciously warm against his own. Rather than pulling away as Itachi had expected Shisui to do, he had given into Itachi's advances that day instead. But if it was because of him leaving Itachi behind that Shisui had relented his control, Itachi did not know but it was definitely an irresistible memory that drove him forward, further and further into the unknown that was clawing at his heart. Shaking his head and fighting away the sudden numbness that spread through to his fingertips and the nervous sweat that had gathered upon the flesh of his palms, Itachi merely bit his tongue and pushed himself harder and harder just to escape the monotonous tone of the desert wrapping around him. He could hardly control himself anymore and lost as he was in his memories of better times, Itachi was completely losing track of time moving by him. It was rightly so that Itachi was startled when he nonchalantly landed in front of the towering-fortress entrance to Sunagakura. 'Halt! Who goes there?' Stopping his movement at their call, Itachi spun his little story to the three guards surrounding him with a touch of genjutsu that stilled their suspicion almost immediately. It wasn't even ten minutes later that Itachi was slipping into the long tunnel-like entrance towards the centre of the village. With a large, circular building ,marked with the kanji 'wind' as the village's dominant feature, Itachi was sure that the building could only belong to the Kazekage as a fortress. Well, it didn't matter to him anyway. It was not what he had come looking for it in the first place, however, even when the spark against his skin was faint and the signature was a little off, there was no missing the bright and warm chakra that only Shisui could produce. Itachi held back for a few seconds, dropping his henge, before he followed the presence through several streets, past the large fortress and into the residential area where several guards had been posted on the rooftops. He would never admit it, but Itachi was afraid of how Shisui would look at him now. Especially now that his horrible crimes had become so widely known and he could not hide the blood stained hands that he possessed. Biting back his uncertainty and wandering thoughts, Itachi jumped upon a shadow bathed roof. Finally coming face to face with a very familiar, proud but benevolent back. It may no longer have been decorated with the proud symbol of the Uchiha, but the plain blue colour still suited the paleness of Shisui's skin and his dark hair the best. Strapped to the tight fitting shirt, covering mesh armour underneath, was a dangerously long katana that Itachi had known to belong to Shisui's father many years ago. It was a small reminder that Shisui may look innocent and harmless but beneath his shy disposition and proud back, he was a dangerously trained shinobi. And low and behold, just as the elder of the two Uchiha, glanced over his shoulder at the intrusion of a presence, those same hauntingly familiar features and beautiful eyes swam back into Itachi's long awaited vision. Even the blue Hitai-ate of Konoha was the same... However, something was off as Shisui stood from his crouching position shakily and fully turned towards Itachi. The trail of dried and caked blood dripping from his closed right eye was disconcerting, especially when Shisui made no move to open it. He merely gave Itachi a soft smile of greeting, instead a glare of hate that Itachi was expecting for everything he had done. Itachi drew in a shuddering breath of realization, his fingers trembling by his side at the one who had dared to hurt Shisui. His legs were frozen, he could not move, as Shisui walked over to him with a dangerous sway in his step. Stopping mere inches away from him, a calloused hand came up to cup his cheek gently. 'You've grown taller again, Itachi-ya.' Shisui said with no amount of surprise, his soft but calloused fingertips traced Itachi's cheek tenderly as he leaned upwards to rub their noses together in greeting. The small action caused Itachi to crack under the strain suddenly, his tensed shoulders suddenly slumping under an unknown weight as he tugged his cousin's unresisting body into a fierce embrace. He didn't want to let go, not when he knew Shisui was at least still alive and had been waiting for him here in Suna as he had said all those years ago. 'Shisui,' Itachi said softly, burying his nose into his cousin's soft hair as those fingers tightened their grip on his back. 'Who did that to you? Who dared to? Why hasn't the wound not been tended to—.' 'Not here, there are too many ears.' And without another word on his frail condition, Shisui pulled out of Itachi's tightened embrace and took a hold of his wrist. Dragging the younger shinobi behind him as he headed deeper and deeper into the village. Not once did he stop for a breath, not once did he complain of the pain his body must have been in. Despite the obvious strain Itachi could see taking over his cousin's body, Shisui valiantly jumped from roof to roof without another word. It was only when they came to a halt at an open window of a secluded apartment that Itachi allowed himself to quietly observe Shisui's actions. The older of the cousin's for the first time since seeing Itachi, allowed his battle tensed body to relax before he took in a long breath of relief. Leading Itachi into the one room apartment without a glance back or another spoken word. Where the younger shinobi could only follow behind his cousin obediently. He knew that if he was to speak now, to shatter whatever control Shisui had gained over himself, he would lose whatever will it was that had drawn Shisui to bring him to his private home in the first place. He was surprised however, when Shisui did not turn to look at him or acknowledge his presence completely. He merely headed over to the large desk that stood in the far corner of the room, littered with endless scrolls and written papers, his fingers finally curled possessively across a small red and blue scroll. Itachi frowned in recognition at the Uchiha symbol decorating the front. It was one of their blood-line's special storage scroll. It was a scroll where one would seal something valuable inside of it and then mark the seal with blood so that only the one whose blood was made as an offering before could open it again once it was completely sealed. Itachi could only briefly wonder at Shisui's intention when a beckoning hand called him forward, allowing for Itachi to step in beside him, Shisui allowed a sorrowful smile to stretch his chapped and bloodied lips. Leaving Itachi with a sense of trepidation, a foreboding feeling of loss that crept up his back and pounded at the base of his skull. Itachi knew that smile, Shisui was planning something reckless again and no matter what he could say to stop him...nothing would anyway. 'I want you to stand beside me, Itachi. Whatever you do, do not interrupt me and do not stop me. This is the only way I know how to protect what is most dear to me and—.' 'But, Shisui?! Who did this to you?! Who would destroy your eye—!' 'Itachi! Concentrate please! You know how this scroll works, right?' At Itachi nod, Shisui smiled softly and drew in a shaky breath. One Sharingan eye watching his friend with sorrowful understanding before he activated his Mangekyo Sharingan. Gazing at the empty walls of the apartment for a few more seconds, clearly setting his resolve for something. Something that Itachi could not understand but made his stomach twist in fear all the same. 'I've failed in protecting what I loved the most, what my father taught me to love the most. I was confronted by Danzo three days ago,' Shisui began softly, fingers tenderly tracing his stolen right eye before he reached for his left eye. Covering the revolving Mangekyo form from the outside world. 'Whatever he wanted it for, whatever it is that his corrupted mind can make use of, I know it cannot be anything good. That man, Itachi...I know what he did to you. I know what he made you do and I'm sorry that I left you. I'm sorry that I left you to deal with it all by yourself...I should have stayed by your side, but it's too late now.' Shisui trailed off sadly, a simple seal of his hands and a brush of chakra brought out a cylindrical container filled with clear fluid. Itachi frowned at his cousin's action, this wasn't like the Shisui he knew. But, there was something in the way he moved...in the way that he now carried himself, that told Itachi he had made up his mind to do whatever it was that he was planning. So, when he reached up for his remaining eye with his right hand, Itachi found himself being blocked by Shisui's left hand that was pressed determinedly against his chest. 'Don't move, Itachi. This is my punishment, this is the only way.' It happened so fast that Itachi barely had time to move and stop Shisui as realization dawned upon him, he could barely breath a word or cry of protest. His cousin in return, let out a startled cry of desperate pain. Bloodied tracks of tears racing down smooth cheeks to drip sickeningly onto the floor with soft splatters of sin. Itachi trembled with shock at the sight. His body was simply refusing to move, even when he felt his own tears gather in the corner of his eyes. It was causing his entire being to tremble with sickening realization. His arm quickly shot around Shisui's waist to stop him from falling to the floor. He was fighting the pain, trying to find his inner strength to push it back but it was difficult. Especially when he nearly crushed his eye with his clenching fingers, quickly though, he held out his last precious gift to Itachi in the palm of his hand. 'W-what have you done, Shisui...' Itachi asked brokenly. His hand clenching in Shisui's clothes as he sought the internal strength to ground them both from shock and emotional instability. 'I...I—.' 'It's the only way, Itachi. It's the only way to protect Konoha now. You know how to program the eye to respond to chakra, you know how to use it to protect what we loved the most. So please, keep it yourself or give it to someone who will protect what we loved the most with all their heart.' Itachi nodded dumbly, his fingers tightening against Shisui's waist as he pulled him close, his free hand curling around the fragile gift and taking it within his own palm. He then went through the motions of sealing it up as Shisui had asked of him. What else could he do? Shisui had just given up his entire life...his entire heritage to protect Konoha. He couldn't refuse. Not when he was so vulnerable, without sight, and trembling against his body...
'....sui....Shisui...wake...Shi...' The moment Shisui became vaguely aware of his ascent into consciousness, he strained his lax senses to search for danger. There was a soft, gauzy material covering the tender skin of his eyelids, dousing his nose with the sweet scent of healing herbs and disinfectant. He was afraid the he had woken up in the hospital again but when his fingers curled instinctively into silky soft sheets beneath him in preparation for an attack, he realized it was a mistake. This was his home, the scent was familiar, the sheets were his and the warm presence lingering above him, non-threatening by the touch of warm chakra that raced teasingly against his skin, could not be anyone but Itachi. 'Are you finally awake, Shisui-nii?' That deep timbered voice called and gentle fingers traced his bare forehead and brushed away his sweaty locks. Shisui breathed in softly, his fingers reluctantly relaxing their harsh grip in the sheets. So it hadn't been a dream, he had really done what he had decided to do the moment Danzo's grubby fingers had plucked out his right eye for himself. He never thought that he had it in him, to take away the last of his sight on a ideal of protecting Konoha. He shuddered suddenly, experiencing that painful, tugging sensation of losing an eye not once but twice...it left him quite shaken. Even his body was trembling from the shock of his own actions. The injuries he had received from his fight with Danzo, also tended to now, was pulling painfully against their bandages. It seemed that Itachi had been quite busy, not even his comrades had known the extent of pain the fight had caused him but only because he had been wallowing in his failure. He had underestimated that man and the lengths that he had gone through to gain his eye, even now he could feel the pain and confusion of it all. But that thought was quickly cut off as quickly as it had come. He absentmindedly brought his hands to rest against the soft bandages across his eyes, mourning the loss of his sight... 'Looks like I failed after all, Itachi-ya. I'm not as strong as you thought...' Shisui whispered suddenly, his body weighed down with intense self-loathing. He was completely startled though, when strong arms suddenly wound around his shoulders and pressed him closer to a warm chest. Where, despite him never admitting his emotions, Shisui was glad that he could hear the lulling sound of a steady heartbeat. The memorable scent of sweet dango, warm tea and cinnamon invading his senses completely. It was a soothing balm to his stinging pride and fading will to carry on living. When he felt a nose burry in his hair and a soft kiss placed there, a warm fluttering invaded his stomach and he smiled despite the lingering pain of his wounds and the giddy feeling Itachi's medicine and treatment had left behind on his body. 'You never failed, Shisui.' Itachi reprimanded softly. 'I will make sure that your eye protects Konoha.' His words were softer this time, the tone of his voice indicating Itachi's own brand of conviction and something that Shisui took to heart. It was always that soft timbered voice that caused shivers to race up the older cousin's spine. Since when had his little cousin developed such a beautifully toned voice? Since when did his soft touches of reassurance become so sensual? Shisui couldn't keep up anymore. His heart was aching, yearning for someone, anyone, to show him that he was still usefully despite just having lost his greatest asset to the brewing of a new war. He wanted to know that the five years he had spent in Suna was not wasted, that he could still be the Shisui that he knew he was and—. His thoughts trailed off when Itachi shifted above him, bringing their noses to rest against each other tenderly before the soft slide of lips grazed his own. The simple action caused Shisui to suck in a breath of surprise, his heart stalling in his chest at the brazen display of desire. Despite knowing that he shouldn't be doing this, his hands came up of their own accord to tangle in lose black hair that now fell around his face like a soft curtain to separate them from the world. How he had longed for this...even when there was only one reference in his memory to compare it to. This touch of reassurance and love, this heated desire that had chased his dreams for five years. Shisui groaned softly when that press of lips became insistent, prompting lips to slide and part under the pressure. It was exactly like he remembered. The heated touch of a tongue, the fuzzy warmth brewing in his stomach when Itachi's breath tickled his cheeks, the slight tilt of his head to accommodate Shisui's pleasure... Shisui moaned loudly into Itachi's mouth. This time there was no sense of pressured time in their movements. No, Shisui knew that Itachi would take his time to tease him, to offer him one last lasting memory before both of them would be parting forever. But was he willing to accept it? He could feel the certainty of Itachi's actions through his rapidly heating kiss but the new tender touches exploring the flesh of his bare arms, tracing patters down his skin before they snuck possessively around his waist and slipped slyly beneath his shirt was enough to realize that yes, he would accept it. But only because he was rapidly becoming uncomfortable and was still too disorientated to chase a warm body away from his side. 'Itachi-ya,' Shisui called softly once they broke apart, arching into a strong chest when a tongue traced his neck and tugged soft flesh between worrying teeth. 'We shouldn't be doing this...they'll come looking for you...' He trailed off again, breath hitching in his chest when Itachi completely ignored him and tickled his sides with his nails. Manoeuvring Shisui's body to easily rid him of his shirt before he was pushed down into the sheets again. Shisui, on the other hand, was slighted that Itachi was taking the lead so casually. He was left to blindly search for the ties in Itachi's clothes with his clumsy, trembling fingers. Despite his external protesting and his mind's rejection at the idea of taking such pleasures from his beloved younger cousin, his impatience for worldly pleasures and bodily comfort seemed to have won over his heart in an instant. Especially when Itachi's warm body curled over his almost protectively, his taller frame easily settling between Shisui's parted legs as an endearing whisper of his name was breathed against the dampened flesh of his neck. 'Hush, Shisui-nii. This is probably the only time we'll see each other alive, again. Just this once I want to both of us to remember what being loved is like after so many years spent apart. That last kiss we shared in parting, no matter how sweet, can only sustain my fantasies of you for only so long.' Itachi's sinfully whispered words caused the older shinobi to shudder slightly. His head falling back against the pillow with a small nod of acceptance and a whine of need. 'This is my way of taking on the task you have given me, so I only ask for one more memory together in return.' And that was it, all that Shisui had needed to hear to stop his internal monologue of resistance against the heated sensations already transversing his skin. The slow build of rapture in his belly and hardening arousal was spurned on ever forward now that he found himself yielding. Several moans of pleasure escaped his parted lips as Itachi bent down explore the flesh of his chest, pulling a sensitized nipple between biting teeth and a soothing tongue. Geez, since when had Itachi known so much about pleasuring another shinobi's body? He had left behind a fairly innocent little cousin but now, Shisui could barely make a move against his advances. He was hard, he was aching and had no way to know what would happen next. A low shuddering tremble transversed his entire body, Itachi's tongue dipping into his navel to taste and tease flesh whilst his hands moved hurriedly to divest Shisui of his restrictive pants. Shisui could feel a flush of embarrassment colouring his cheeks darkly, quivering at the exposure to the now cool air in his room. 'Shisui...you're going to have to stop me now if you don't want to go further.' Itachi said, a fingernail scraping experimentally against the head of Shisui's arousal, the action pulling a hiss from Shisui's lungs as he bucked his hips for more contact. 'Baka! If I had not wanted this, Itachi-ya, you would already have been dead long ago.' Hating the fact that he had to admit it out loud, Shisui turned his head to the side to hide the blush that was streaking across his cheeks. His thoughts, however, were quickly shoved out of the proverbial window when warm lips encircled his aroused head and a few fingers were shoved into his mouth to keep him quiet. Shisui moaned low in his throat, since when had Itachi gotten so impatient? But it didn't matter anymore, Shisui knew in this situation he himself would lose control within seconds. He was already impatient and getting his cousin's fingers wet was a dreary job he was almost too lazy to undertake, especially when the pleasure of a mouth on his cock was chasing only pure rapture through his quivering limbs. But, the hard part had yet to start and hating to admit his defeat against Itachi's advances, Shisui valiantly bit his lip when those fingers were retracted from his mouth and traced down a heated path to his stomach and pelvis before coming to a rest against his entrance expectantly. The first finger finding its way into his body was tolerable but reminded Shisui far too much that it had been a long time since he had accepted pleasures similar to it. The conflicting sensations caused by the still working medicine and his own body's sweaty pleasure, was making him lightheaded and needy. Where his sudden cry of surprise echoed harshly against the tiny walls of his apartment. That shout hadn't been from the pain, it was rather for his insatiable and frustrated want for Itachi inside of him, now. It may have been a while since he had experienced the touch of a lover but by the time Itachi had begun to probe him with a second finger, Shisui was losing his will to his impatience. He so desperately wanted to feel all of Itachi, regardless of the pain he knew it would cause. His arousal was already throbbing in anticipation, his heart hammering against his chest in yearning and the genius that his cousin was, had already found his prostate to drive him wild. No, he couldn't take it anymore. He needed Itachi and he needed him now! So with blindly fumbling fingers he somehow managed to tug Itachi's lips from his cock and pulled him onto his chest by his still present shirt, which irked Shisui as he had been seeking to divest Itachi of his clothes before. 'Stop teasing, please, Itachi-ya. I can't take it. Please just take me! Take me now!' And Itachi did, he never did disobey Shisui. And the blinding rush of pain from the sudden harsh intrusion made Shisui expel a sound close to a groan and shout of pain. But it didn't matter to him anymore, Itachi was close to him, giving him the pleasure that he so desperately wanted. Even if he couldn't see anymore, and never would again, this he would remember because he could still feel every little touch as if it was amplified and trebled in its intensity. And with Itachi's taller frame covering him so completely, so possessively, with those long locks falling across his face to tickle his cheeks. It was like he was creating a world where only they existed, only they and their chasing and heightening pleasure. With the soft slide of a soothing wet mouth tracing his lips, Shisui was rapidly losing himself in utter bliss. Tumbling through the pleasure as if it was the only thing in the world that mattered, the pure rapture that only Itachi could give him. Only the satisfaction that one cousin and a beloved would ever be able to give to him...and his steadily controlled pace and attentive actions towards Shisui, was chasing him towards his climax way too fast. 'Nnngh...Itachi!' He moaned lowly, his back arching gracefully against the heated pleasure chasing through his veins. It wasn't until after his plea for more that Shisui noticed the change in Itachi's pace and attitude towards the pleasure. The deep, almost violent thrusts, was playing exactly into Shisui's need more and more. Proving that the rougher and more intense the sex, the more pleasure he gleaned from it. After that, it did not take much to build his release and when it finally came with a strong thrust directly against his prostate, Shisui's shout of Itachi's name could have been heard across the entirety of Suna. It wasn't his own desperate release that filled him warmth though, but rather Itachi's soft calling of his name that finally filled Shisui with the sensations he had sought since he had first seen a glimpse of those Sharingan red eyes and dark hair hours before. A breath of relief left him softly as he laid back against the sheets, panting for breath and control over his fuzzy mind. His fingers curled in Itachi's shirt and still refusing to let go, he was after all not sure when he would be left alone again but this time, this time, there would be something more substantial that a left behind kiss and brief words of hope in their parting. ~~~~ Itachi absently sat in the window seat carved just beneath the apartment's sole window overlooking Sunagakura. His back resting against frame as a sigh stained his lips and his Sharingan red eyes gazed expectantly across the spread of lights present in the desert night's frosty air. The village ANBU would be coming for him soon, he had already sensed the telltale unrest within in the patrol's movements and actions several minutes ago. It must have been close to three in the morning but it was so dark that Itachi could not be sure. However, to Itachi, it felt like it was only a moment that he had spent beside his cousin's side this time. He could only stare helplessly at his trembling fingertips, disgusted with what he had done and how he had stained Shisui's innocence in his haste to make a memory that would comfort his approaching death one day. He could not have stopped himself even if he had tried and he had known it. He was just glad that Shisui had not denied him his touch outright. Those few moments and hours of bliss were times that Itachi would now never forget and perhaps, in the cold and lonely nights ahead of his remaining existence, they would have each other's touch and memories to return to. Damn it! If only he had not been so stupid to follow Shisui to his home...perhaps he could have stopped Shisui from losing his eyesight outright. But it was useless to worry about it now, it had already been done and Shisui would be blind for the rest of his life. Something that Itachi would also not forgive himself for. It seemed that his list of wrong doings and failures were ever growing in size and offense; especially what he done to his sweet little brother. And he dared to find comfort from the one he loved? He may have hated himself for his trespass but Itachi was still happy, grateful that there was still one light in his life that was as bright as Shisui and ever shining. At least his beloved would be removed from the shinobi world now, allowed to live a life in peace as a civilian. But knowing Shisui, Itachi smirked to himself, he would probably defy fate and become an even stronger shinobi without his eyesight and nothing Itachi could say would ever stop him. So with a sigh, Itachi still trekked across the wooden floor towards the dominant feature of the room where Shisui slept. He looked so peaceful bathed in the light of the moon. His pale, flawless skin, shimmering silver in the light of the moon as his messy dark lock glinted a deep and intense blue. It was only the sickly white bandages across his eyes that tainted his being, a sight Itachi would never forget. He smiled softly to himself, Shisui was beautiful wherever he was. An ethereal being that should never be tainted by the flow of time, by the touch of pain... He rested his long fingers in dark hair gently, feeling the silky texture one last time and committing it to memory. Shisui was finally his but he had to leave again. 'I love you, my sweet Shisui.' He whispered tenderly, bending down to place a brief kiss upon a smooth forehead in comfort. Daring to breathe the words no one but Sasuke has ever heard come past his lips, once more. He was worried that Shisui would have awoken at the call of his name but he merely shifted restlessly against the sheets in his deep sleep. Their six rounds of lovemaking and Itachi's two day stay, it seemed, had worn out his older cousin enough that he did not stir even when his Shinobi senses should have forced him to do so. Good, because Itachi did not think he could face another goodbye like last time. At least now, Shisui would get the much needed rest that he had always craved and complained he could never experience back in Konoha and here in Suna as well. It was selfish, Itachi knew, but he wanted to remember Shisui as he was when under him, yielding but demanding and brave. Even if his leaving like this would only leave Shisui bitter and resentful towards him. 'May you find your strength to live and become stronger than my own waning will.' He whispered one last time, placing another, final, kiss of farewell upon a furrowing brow. Heading towards the open window without looking back, fearing, that if he did, he would never find enough resolve to leave. His fingers painfully gripped the frame of the window one last time, stalling his breath in his throat as a weak but strong voice split the air of the apartment with gentle words. 'Keep safe, Itachi-ya. I'll be waiting for you, don't forget to look after little Sasuke-ya.' Itachi had been afraid the moment he had heard Shisui's whisper, but he relaxed now. There was no regret and pain in that voice, only a promise of more. He smiled to himself one last time. 'Hn.' It was his only form of acknowledgement that he had heard Shisui's words. As he jumped from the balcony, racing into the streets of Suna and out into the desert a few minutes later the incessant sting and pain in his eyes was back. This time the water that flowed freely down his cheeks and flew into the air at his impressive speed was the cause of the sand and wind swirling against his cheeks; or so he tried to convince himself. But he knew it was useless to deny it anymore, this was his last moments spent in his humility and humanity. His whispered goodbye to the wind for his most beloved and ever bright Shisui-nii, the last of his emotional words and promises.
Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate that my work is read by others and I will be really glad if I can get some feedback with this, I know I left some holes in the story but it was the point. There are holes, this love is supposed to be tragic and quick, nothing but a flickering flame before it turns to ash... Anyways, thank again. Notes: 1* - Itachi-ya – I’ve given Shisui this sentence quirk (taken from Trafalgar Law in Once Piece) because it makes his personality a little quirky, not so serious as I think he was implied in the Manga and Anime. 2* - Amai-Itachi – Sweet –Itachi, I thought it would sound nice. 3* - Baka – Idiot, for those of you who do not know. 4* - Teme – Bastard I think that’s all the notes, if I left one out or forgot to translate something, let me know and I’ll fix it. That’s it from me though. SSP
