A/N:This one basically came to me in my sleep. Nothing lemony in the first chap, I'm just establishing the setting. R&R. Lemme know if you like it. After three long years he was finally back! Aaahh...He loved the smell of Konoha in the morning. Wait, that might be the smell of ramen. OOO ramen! No. He could go there later. Jiraiya told him he could wander for a bit, but it was best not to leave Tsunade-baa waiting for very long. So for now he was going to walk through the town, looking for familiar faces since Sakura had already turned down his offer for a date. Best not to brood on that though. Was that Gai-sensei who just leaped over the road to the opposite building with all the grace and poise of a dancer? Some things never change... After awhile of aimless wandering without running into anyone who might be willing to pay for his ramen later, Naruto decided to head to the Hokage's tower. Wouldn't want Tsunade-baa to be mad at him first thing when he gets back. Just as he turns towards the tower he hears... “Naruto?”He whips his head around to see a dark haired woman with red eyes holding a grocery bag. She smiles at him as she approaches. “I didn't know you were back already. How long have you been here?” “Yo, Kurenai-sensei.” He grinned at her sheepishly. He never really had a chance to talk to this pretty jounin, and to be honest she made him quite nervous. Aside from having looks to rival any model, she was also a high level ninja who specialized in genjutsu, Naruto's worst ninja skill by far. On top of that she was apparently good friends with that crazy snake lady. Probably best not to ask her to pay for his ramen; wouldn't want to get on her bad side. “Just got here a little while ago. Thought I'd check out the town for a bit, but I should go check in with Tsunade-baa.” Kurenai frowned slightly at the way he referred to their Hokage, but let it roll off her and put her smile back on. “Well I was just on my way home.” Kurenai said, lifting her grocery bag a little. “It's on the way to the tower, we should walk together.” Naruto felt like he was being led into a trap. He scratched the back of his head nervously. “S-sure! Let's go then!” He spouted enthusiastically while pointing to the tower, trying to hide his nervousness. Kurenai giggled at his antics. Naruto felt awkward walking beside the raven-haired beauty. He stole a couple of glances in her direction and noticed she didn't seem to feel this awkwardness at all. She simply kept walking with a small smile on her face. Her head turned towards him while he was giving her another glance and caught his gaze with her dark red eyes. Her head tilted slightly in question at his look. Not wanting to seem like he was staring Naruto gave her a wide grin and asked, “So how are Kiba Hinata and Shino?” “Hm? Oh They're doing quite well. They've improved a lot over the past three years.” She looked at him teasingly and said, “You should be careful, I think Kiba wants a rematch of your fight from that chuunin exam. He's been training hard to be able to beat you.” Naruto puffed out his chest confidently. “Heh heh. There's no way he gotten better than me! I was being trained by the Ero-sennin!” Kurenai was taken aback again. That's two out of three of the great Sannin Naruto referred to disrespectfully in just a few minutes. What's next? Was he going to call Orochimaru “Wormy”? Ha! Wormy... She should tell Anko that. Suddenly Naruto's smile lost a bit of it's girth, leaving just a small knowing smile. “I'm not the same kid I was three years ago.” Yes, Kurenai could tell that. Gone was the snot nosed little brat who played pranks on everyone he could. Here was a handsome young man who had spent three years in harsh training to overcome his demons. Kurenai felt a small blush come to her cheeks when she mentally called him handsome. He was beginning to look astoundingly like his father. Yes, Kurenai knew who his father was. How couldn't she? She had spent her early teenage years gushing over the good looks of the blonde ninja. At the age of fifteen Naruto had already become as handsome as his father at his best. The whisker marks on his cheeks and his slightly larger eyes were about the only difference, both giving him a cuteness that even Minato couldn't measure up to. Kurenai shook her head when she realized she had basically just been checking out the young genin. “Well,” She began, trying to get the conversation rolling in a direction where she wouldn't be thinking about his looks. “I'd say other than their strength and height, Kiba and Shino haven't changed very much.” She said exasperatedly. “But Hinata though, I think she's changed the most out of everybody.” Kurenai watch him to gauge his reaction. She knew of her pupils long term crush on the blonde boy. She figured now was a good time to subtly get him thinking about Hinata in as positive a light as possible. Then maybe when he's confronted with her new and improved looks maybe some feelings will be stirred, and Hinata's dreams will come true. She was certain Naruto would be floored when he saw her now. Even Kurenai, who had no reason to complain about her own looks whatsoever, was slightly jealous of the young Hyuuga's body. Even though Hinata was half Kurenai's age and much shorter, their breasts were already about the same size. That and her cute face and silky smooth straight hair...if she would just lose the jacket all the men of Konoha would be drooling over her. She remembered going to the bathhouse with Hinata and Anko once. While in the changing room Hinata had dropped something and bent over to pick it up, covering only her front with a towel. Anko had leaned in close to Kurenai and whispered, “Damn, even I'd hit that.” Kurenai just lightly hit her perverted friend over the head before heading of to the bath. Anko followed. “Aw, don't be jealous Kurenai-chan. You're the only woman for me.” “Shut up.” She was snapped from her memory when Naruto sounded interested. “Hmmm? Hinata huh?” His thoughtful expression turned into another wide grin. “I can't wait to see her again. And everyone else to.” Kurenai mentally patted herself on the back. If she knew the poor shy girl, she would need all the help she could get wooing Naruto. Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud squeak. “Oh speak of the devil. Hey there Hinata-chan!” Having just turned the corner, there stood Hinata Hyuuga, in all her nervous wreckage glory. Her blush seemed to cover her entire body, as she seemed to curl into herself, further hiding her body behind her thick jacket. Hinata's mind was reeling. He was back. Naruto was back. Did he say speak of the devil? He was talking about her? Naruto-kun was talking about her? What was he saying? Her eyes flickered erratically from different parts of his body to the ground and back. He was so much taller, and so handsome. She felt the urge to just jump on him and kiss him, making her blush grow even darker. Naruto looked at her with some concern. She was awfully red, and she wasn't saying anything. He started moving a little closer to her. “Are you okay, Hinata-chan? Your face is really red.” Behind him, Kurenai reached out as if to stop him. A small, “Wai-” leaving her lips, but it was to late. Naruto had moved right in front of Hinata and gently brushed her bangs out from her forehead, placing his palm there. Hinata's mouth sputtered out noises that should have been words, just further worrying Naruto. “Maybe you should go lie down. Want me to take you somewhere?” Hinata gaped at him. A cloud of steam bursting from the top if her head. Naruto offering to take her somewhere to lie down? She thought she was going to explode. In an instant she took a dozen steps back away from him, still stuttering madly. Quickly she bent at the waist. Bowing to Naruto deeply before shouting, “I-IT'S...IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN, NARUTO-KUN!” then leaping away from them, jumping to the roof of a nearby building and taking off. Naruto stared at the direction she disappeared to for a second before letting out a, “Huh...” He looked to Kurenai to see her slightly shocked expression. “She doesn't seem that different to me.” Kurenai let out a deep breath, barely resisting the urge to face palm herself. That girl was hopeless. “Well...She's still extremely shy.” They started walking down the road again. “You'll just have to take my word that she's a lot different than she used to be. I doubt anyone takes their training as seriously as her.” Except Gai and his prodigy. But that's not a fair comparison. Naruto nodded in understanding. “I like her hair grown out like that. It suits her.” Kurenai smiled at him. He was sweet for mentioning it, but she had a feeling if he had told Hinata she would have passed out in the middle of the road. To her surprise Naruto then shifted the focus to her. “I see your hairs a little longer to, Kurenai-sensei. It looks good.” “Eh?” She ran a hand to the end of her hair subconsciously. He was right of course. Her hair that used to be shoulder length now barely came down to the top of her breasts. It was only a couple inches difference so she was surprised he noticed. No one else had. Needless to say she was flattered that he paid that much attention to her even though he was only twelve and they had barely ever spoken. A small blush tinted her cheeks. “Thank you, Naruto.” Naruto gave her his most dazzling smile. “Your welcome.” Kurenai soon learned that she enjoyed being in the company of Naruto. He listened attentively as she told him about some of team eight's adventure over the past three years. They spent a good while exchanging notes about Kiba's wild antics from tales of him and Naruto as kids and his more recent endeavors in team eight. Kurenai couldn't help but smile as Naruto excitedly told her about some of his and Jiraiya's misadventures. He would wave his arms around while he told his story and his eyes would light up when she would giggle. They had both subconsciously slowed their walking pace to a crawl as to have a little more time together. All to soon they found themselves nearing the Hokage's tower. Kurenai stopped and faced Naruto, interrupting him mid-sentence. “Sorry Naruto, but I'm going this way.” The disappointment clear in her voice. “And I think you should hurry. You've kept Tsunade-sama waiting for some time now.” “Ah, your right.” He had actually forgotten about that. He had gotten lost talking to Kurenai-sensei. He had been wrong to be nervous around her. Sure her good looks were a little intimidating, but she had no ulterior motives in talking to him, and no crazy snake lady was waiting to ambush him. In fact he really liked her. She was...nice. Just as he was about to thank her for just for spending some time with him, he heard someone off to the side say in anger, “It's the Kyuubi.” After that one statement he could hear the whispers and feel the hateful glances. His smile quickly dropped from his face, but he did his best to contain the sad expression he felt taking it's place. Kurenai heard the villager. She heard the whispers and saw the looks, and she didn't miss the hurt on Naruto's face. She knew he had experienced this all his life, and that she had never once felt the need to help him. Suddenly she felt ashamed of herself. Why had she never tried to help? She didn't actually believe that Naruto was the Kyuubi itself, and she didn't blame him for the death of her father in the Kyuubi's attack, but her fear of the creature had let her sit back and watch as a poor innocent boy with a heart of gold was outcast and basically abused by the village he called home. She felt a sudden powerful urge to protect him. But she didn't turn on the ignorant villagers. Instead she brought her hand to Naruto's chin, lifting it from where it was pointing down. Her hand ran gently up the side of his face coming to rest in his hair, petting it softly. She gazed deeply into his blue eyes and said softly, “I'm glad you're back, Naruto.” She pulled him forward a little, getting on her tip-toes to put a feather soft kiss where his hairline met his forehead. She lingered for just a second before slowly pulling away and looking back into his eyes. Naruto stared at her wide-eyed, blushing at almost Hinata levels. Kurenai gave him her most tender smile, a pretty blush also marring her cheeks. “We all are.” Feelings he was unfamiliar with stirred in him as he looked into her beautiful red eyes. Her hand came back down to his cheek, rubbing her thumb over a whisker mark. “Thank you, Kurenai-sensei.” his voice felt raspy leaving his throat. Kurenai felt more heat in her face at his gratitude. She pulled her hand away from his cheek and nodded to him as she turned and walked towards her house. Naruto also turned, but to the Hokage's tower. His wide grin back on his face. “Now Baa-chan's definitely going to be mad at me for being late.” TBC A/N: Now tell me that didn't make you go, "D'aaawwww"
