Lying Sleeping
Summary: Naruto keeps waking up at night to find his bed missing his raven haired lover. New reaches Naruto and it shatters his world forever, how can he live now? Two shot, Naruto and Sasuke.

                Naruto turned on his left side on his bed, looking at the empty space beside him. He placed his right hand on the empty spot. He sighed deeply; he could feel the tears beginning to burn behind his eyes. How long has it been? How many times did he awake in the middle of the night hoping that he was going to come home? Tonight was just another night of the empty feeling in his heart and sleeplessness.
                He told himself that he wasn’t going to cry, that he was stronger without him. He couldn’t count how many times he has told himself that same lie over and over again. He tried to smile and continue on his life without him around, but with each passing month on the anniversary of their last night his facade begins to break down. How many times has he promised Naruto that they would be together?
                Maybe he is hurt, maybe he is dead…Naruto shook his head, no he wouldn’t think that way, he wasn’t ready to accept the possibility that Sasuke would never come home to him. He would rather continue to lie to himself that Sasuke would be coming home.
                A pounding on the door caused Naruto to jump; he looked over at his clock and saw that it was 3:27 am, who would be knocking on his door at this hour? He whipped away the tears that had escaped and moved out of bed. The pounding on the door grew more frantic as if the person pounding on it was anxious.
                “Damn it I’m coming! Stop pounding on the damn fucking door!” Naruto yelled, the pouding stopped as Naruto pulled the open. “Sakura? What are you doing here at 3 o’clock in the morning.” Naruto’s voice softened at the sight of his friend.
                “I’m so sorry Naruto….I’m so sorry.” Sakura cried as she looked at Naruto. It wasn’t until Naruto really looked at his friend and saw she was out of breath, her eyes were blood shot red as if she has been crying for hours, and her body trembled.
                “What’s wrong?” Naruto tried to laughed but in the back of his mind he knew something was really wrong.
                “It’s Sasuke…He’s dead…” Sakura cried harder and fell to her knees.
Naruto just stood there frozen. He couldn’t have heard her right, did he? Sasuke’s dead…no…there was no way…no chance that bastard would be dead, everything seemed to have stopped. He forgot how to breathe.
Naruto didn’t know what to think, the hammering of his heart drowning out Sakura’s cries and everything else. His rapid heartbeat was all he could hear, his ears burned. He leaned against the door frame; it was the only thing holding him up when his legs suddenly went weak.
“How…” Was all he could say.
“I don’t know, Tsunade received a letter from someone saying that Sasuke Uchiha was dead.”
Naruto began laughing hysterically; Sakura looked up at him as if he had grown another head. Everything he was feeling just a second ago was thrown out the window. Naruto was laughing so hard that tears started to roll down his face. Sakura stood up and grabbed her friend.
“I don’t see what’s so funny about this.”
“Don’t you see Sakura, the letter was a fake, there is no way that Sasuke could be dead, and someone was just playing a joke. Sakura don’t ever scare me like that.” Naruto said after he had stopped his laughing fit. Sakura looked at him sadly, she let go of Naruto to reach into her pocket and pulled out a simple chain with a charm that had the same spiral that rested on Naruto’s stomach and the Uchiha's family crest in the middle.
Naruto’s face fell, his right hand shook violently as he reached for the small necklace. His eyes began to water as he stared at the charm. Sasuke never took this off, Naruto gave this to him years ago after the first time they confessed their feeling to one another. Sasuke was never seen without it, he had always wore the simple chain under his shirt so no one could see it.
Naruto felt as if this was a horrible nightmare. He shook his head and the tears fell freely down his cheeks. His hand closed over the necklace and he fell to his knees. The hammering came back as Naruto screamed his pain and loss of his lover.
Sakura’s heart broke as she watched Naruto fall to his knees and screamed his sorrow. She had always known about Sasuke and Naruto’s relationship, she was actually the one that locked them together in a room after a big argument, telling them to miss and make up. The moment she unlocked the door and found the two asleep in the middle of the room with Naruto’s orange jacket covering them, she knew they had finally gave into their pent of feelings.
She kneeled in front of her best friend and pulled him into her arms. He hugged her as he cried. Sakura tried to hold back her tears and looked up to the dark sky, seeing there was no star in sight, and the moon was hiding behind dark clouds.

A/N: So it’s not my usual forte with sad stories but it will get better with the next chapter. I’m sorry it’s really short but the last chapter will be longer and better :D
