Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, I do not own U Haul. And Selkies are a legend that I didn't start. I do not make a profit from this. That is all. |
This was written for a conest over on y! I hope you enjoy. I respond to reviews here: http://xiophelia.livejournal.com/
Iruka Umino stared at the huge U Haul that was parked in the apartment parking lot. He had no idea that someone new was moving in today. His landlord normally alerted the brunet as to when someone new was moving in. And that was only because Iruka was a kind person and made sure the new person or family felt welcomed. Iruka calmed himself and pulled into the parking lot. He was interested in who had moved into the apartment complex that was out of the city. Most people rather enjoyed living right in the main city where everything was convenient and life was fast paced. Not many people moved into the apartment complex just outside of town surrounded by a small forest. There weren’t many tenants in his apartment building, but they were a close bunch, always helping one another out when someone needed it. The brunet parked the car and took a deep breath. He hated being surprised like this because he didn’t have an apartment warming gift for the new tenant. But Iruka supposed that he could always bring something over the next day. The saying was better late than never. And he didn’t have an issue with that. Iruka climbed out of his car and pulled out his school bag from the back. He was an elementary school teacher and always had papers he brought home with him. He pulled the bag to his shoulder and locked his car. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his neighbors, but there was a gang that liked to go around stealing. In fact, everyone in the building locked their cars due to the gang. Iruka was glad for once that he lived on the ground floor. His bag was especially heavy today since he had to combine his class with another teacher’s. Kurenai Sarutobi was eight months pregnant and had taken her medical leave last week. The school couldn’t find a suitable replacement and asked Iruka if he would take her class. The brunet had agreed immediately since he was sure he could handle a total of forty students. But of course the homework to be graded had increased and while Iruka complained about that, he wouldn’t complain about his students. They were mostly well behaved and they were sweet. It seemed that he had some sort of air around him that children liked and he had their attention from the time he walked into the room to the time they were released from school. When he came to his apartment door he noticed that the once empty apartment next to him was the one that the new person was moving into. And Iruka was grateful for that. He wouldn’t have to climb the stairs and seek the person out blindly. He had to do that once and it took almost two hours to find the new tenant. He was sure he was less than friendly, but he was able to make it up. Iruka unlocked his door and dropped his bag just inside the door. It wouldn’t do to have that huge bag with him when he introduced himself. He closed his door, but didn’t bother to lock it. He would be right next door and would notice if anyone would try to enter it. The brunet tightened his ponytail and squared his shoulders. He was tired, but he wanted to be a good neighbor and introduce himself. At least he was wearing his good clothes. He wouldn’t look like a bum then and hopefully make a good impression. Iruka came to the door and knocked loudly on the open door. He didn’t want to be rude and enter without permission. His parents didn’t bring him up to be that way. He waited there for a few moments, but no answer came. He hesitated again before knocking again. “Alright! Alright already! I’m coming!” The voice that came from somewhere in the back of the apartment was gruff and seemed muffled. And Iruka couldn’t help but find it somewhat sexy. Iruka smiled as his new neighbor appeared at the door. The man was taller than him by at least five inches, had wild white hair that spiked in all directions, one visible black eye, an eye patch that covered one eye and his turtle neck came up to hide his mouth. Iruka found that odd, but didn’t stare too long. That was rude and he was not a rude person. “Hell there! I’m Iruka Umino, your neighbor! I just thought I’d stop by and see if you needed any help moving in.” Iruka said politely as he held out his hand. The other man studied him for a minute and took the hand and shook it. “I’m Kakashi Hatake. I just moved here from the shore. And I could use some help.” Iruka smiled. “Is that your U Haul over there?” Kakashi followed Iruka’s gaze. “Yeah that’s it. You can bring the boxes in and set them on the floor. I’ll put them away later. I only have until tomorrow morning to unload it.” “Sure thing!” Iruka answered as he turned around and began to walk to the U Haul. His new neighbor was nice enough and he thought that maybe they could get along nicely. It was October and the days would be getting colder soon. It was this time of year that he loved the most with the leaves changing colors and the kids running around on Halloween night. Iruka entered the back of the moving truck and spotted a nicely decorated trunk on his left. He picked it up, expecting it to be heavy, but to his surprise it was light. He gently got out of the truck because he knew that this trunk had to have been expensive. In the daylight, he could see it had several gems on the lid that were laid in silver. He took the trunk to his neighbors’ apartment and sat it just inside the living room. He didn’t want to encroach too much into Kakashi’s personal space. Iruka smiled at Kakashi as he came into the living room. “That’s a very lovely trunk!” What should have been an innocent statement was turned in the opposite direction. Kakashi’s face was dark and twisted with anger. “You touched my trunk? How dare you! Get out this instant!” Iruka paled. He wasn’t sure what he had done wrong, but he felt bad. He thought that he could finally make a friend that wasn’t married. “I’m…sorry. I didn’t mean to offend. I’ll…be leaving now.” The brunet turned and hurriedly left the apartment. There was sadness in his heart that he couldn’t help. The other man had seemed so nice and he was attractive as well. He had thought that maybe, just maybe he had found a new friend. But of course as usual, he had done something wrong again. Maybe his ex boyfriend Mizuki was right, he was worthless. `~` A few days after the incident with his neighbor, Iruka was quietly working on grading his students’ papers. The fifth graders were coming along well in their studies and pride swelled in Iruka’s chest. Maybe he would win teacher of the year. He had been nominated in the past, but had never won. It seemed that everyone favored Minato Namikaze over him. But the children spoke differently. Last year his class had made him a paper mache trophy stating that he was the best teacher in the world. The trophy had never left his classroom. He had placed on a high shelf where it wouldn’t break. He had cried when his students gave him the trophy and he thanked everyone for it. It was his prized possession and no matter how depressed he got, if he looked at that trophy he was reminded that there were people who cared for him, even if they were children. Iruka finished grading the current paper in front and stretched. He glanced at the clock and noticed that it was going on seven in the evening. He decided that a little break was in order and started to make something to eat. As he was about to put the skillet on the stove and heat it up, a knock resounded in his apartment. Iruka turned the burner off and made his way to the door. He knew it wasn’t his landlord because he had already paid the rent this month and as far as he knew none of the children needed babysitting since the parents were using high school teenagers. He slowly opened the door since he didn’t have a peep hole. Iruka almost closed the door on the person at the door. Kakashi Hatake was right outside his door. Iruka wanted nothing to do with him since he was rude to him a few days ago. The man had made it clear that Iruka wasn’t wanted around. But for the sake of his parents, he opened the door all the way. “Can I help you Mr. Hatake?” Iruka had to force himself to ask politely. The man actually had the gall to look sheepish. “I’m really sorry about a few days ago. That chest means a lot to me and I don’t like people handling it. I guess I should have warned you before you went to unpack the U Haul. I want to make it up to you by taking you out to dinner.” Iruka stared in disbelief. The man actually was apologizing for what happened. That certainly helped him in getting Iruka’s forgiveness, as well as the promise of dinner. “Sure. I’m available mostly in the evenings since I teach at the elementary school.” Iruka caught a hint of smile beneath the turtleneck. “How about right now? I haven’t bought any real food yet and I don’t know which restaurants are good.” Iruka smiled back. “Yeah, just let me get my coat and keys. You can come in if you wish.” Iruka left the door open and retreated back into his living room to gather his coat and keys. He normally left everything on his recliner since it was a convenient place. He pulled the coat on and pushed his keys into his pocket. He was glad that he hadn’t moved his wallet from his pants. He approached Kakashi and told the other man he was ready. He locked the door when they both were outside. Iruka tried to the doorknob just to be safe. “Why don’t I drive since I know the perfect place for dinner?” Iruka suggested as they approached the parking lot. “Sure, that won’t be a problem.” Kakashi answered as they moved to the brunet’s car. Iruka unlocked his car and they both climbed in. The brunet started it up and they were on their way. “So you said you lived on the shore before moving here. What was that like?” “It was wonderful. The house I owned had a perfect view of the sea and occasionally a breeze would come through and I could smell the sea on it. I miss it actually.” Kakashi answered as he stared longingly out of the car window. “What made you move then? It sounds as though you loved it dearly.” “A hotel bought out most of the land and I was the only one left who actually owned a house. They basically forced me out of my house legally. I found our apartment complex first and decided that it would be easier to live there until I can find another shore to live on. But unfortunately that is going to take awhile.” Kakashi’s answer was full of anger. “That’s horrible! I hope you find a house like that soon. One should never be away from something they consider home.” “What about you? Why do you live in an apartment complex?” “Well, it’s just convenient I guess. I went through a bad break up last year and he took everything I loved. I was lucky I didn’t have money for him to take as well. Every time we bump into each in public, he makes sure to tell me that he tore down our house and built another over it.” “It sounds like you were quite attached to it.” “It was my parents’ home. I grew up there and after they passed away in an accident, I lived there by myself. I have a lot of good memories connected to it. And for him to just tear it down…” Iruka almost sobbed. He hadn’t talked about his parents’ house in a long time. He kept his lips tight around the few friends he had, even they didn’t know the extent of damage Mizuki had done to him by that one act. “We don’t have to discuss it further. But it seems that we do have something in common.” Iruka turned and offered the man a weak smile. After that silence took over the car. It was comfortable and not awkward like the brunet thought it would be. It didn’t take them long after that to make it to the diner that Iruka loved to eat at. It was a small place just inside the city. It was never crowded but had great food. Iruka parked the car and stretched when he was out of the car. His muscles protested at the movement, but it felt so good. He locked the car after Kakashi was safely out of it. Iruka had a bad habit of locking passengers in his car since he hardly had anyone that rode with him. They both entered the diner and found an empty booth to sit in. It wasn’t long until the waitress was there with menus and a list of drinks that they served. Iruka had opted for the pumpkin spice coffee while Kakashi had simply asked for a glass of water. When the waitress left they both turned their attention to the menu. It was a simple menu and that’s what Iruka loved about this diner. They weren’t fancy and served great food. He was sad that they weren’t more popular but it was kind of nice. It meant that he would be served in a timely manner. He glanced up at Kakashi and noticed that the other man was studying the menu. “Have you decided yet?” Iruka asked. He knew exactly what he was going to get. It was the perfect day for chili. “I believe so. Have you had their Tilapia before?” “Yes, it’s amazing actually.” Iruka grinned. “Good! I like fish and would be disappointed if it wasn’t good.” And just like that the conversation flowed easily between the two men. Even when the waitress had stopped by with their drinks and taken their order, the conversation was still flowing smoothly. It was like the two were old friends and Iruka loved that feeling swelling up within him. He was finally making a friend that wasn’t under the influence of Mizuki and would actually see him for himself. It was luck that Kakashi had moved into the apartment next door. Of course the start of their friendship may have been rocky with Kakashi yelling at him, but the man had made up for it. They actually more in common than what Iruka had originally thought. And for the first time in a long time, he was content. `~` Iruka shivered as he pulled his scarf around his neck tighter. It had been a few weeks since Kakashi had moved into the apartment and things were progressing nicely. After their dinner, they began to spend the evenings together and the weekends as well. They were always out and about doing something, whether it was a walk in the park or just a movie. Today they had decided to check out the haunted hayride. It was Kakashi’s idea of course. Iruka had tried to stay away from the hayride since he didn’t like to be startled. He had a sneaking suspicion that the other male was up to something. But without proof, Iruka couldn’t accuse him. So they were just waiting in line to purchase their tickets and get their place on the wagon. There weren’t too many other people around since it was a weekday and almost dusk. Iruka was glad that there a few others besides them there. It would be his public humiliation would be less. That and the fact that the word wouldn’t spread like wildfire that he was scared on a hayride. “Relax,” Kakashi purred into his ear. “I’ll be right there.” Iruka felt his face go warm. It was no secret that he was attracted to Kakashi. The other man seemed to delight in embarrassing him in as many ways as possible. But Kakashi never took it too far. He seemed to know when to quit and for that, Iruka adored him. He wanted to be more than just friends with Kakashi, but was afraid to move their relationship further. He didn’t to mess things up if he was wrong about what was happening between them. Iruka stared at the wagon in distaste. He really didn’t want to get on, but since Kakashi had purchased the tickets he felt obligated. And so he climbed onto the wagon and found a vacant hay bale and planted his butt firmly on it. Kakashi had sat gently down beside him and told him not to worry. It seemed that the other man had picked up his distress. As soon as the dark settled on the land, the tractor was off, pulling the wagon behind it. And Iruka couldn’t help the knot that formed in his stomach. This ride was not going to be fun, but at least he had someone there to hold onto. A few minutes into the ride, a monster came out of the corn field to their left and grabbed onto Iruka’s coat. The brunet screamed and jumped into Kakashi’s arms. He snuggled tightly into the other’s body and wouldn’t let go, begging the other protect him. He could hear Kakashi laughing softly. “There are worse things than monsters out there. But I will protect you to the best of my ability.” Iruka relaxed somewhat at those words, but he didn’t move from his spot. He stayed there for the entirety of the hay ride, doing his best to ignore the creatures that were trying to frighten him. And it seemed that Kakashi didn’t mind him being there since the other man had wrapped his arm around Iruka’s shoulders and tried his best to keep the brunet calm. `~` Iruka relaxed further in Kakashi’s embrace. It was a cold day outside and neither man wanted to be out in it. The snow had started to fall early that morning and hadn’t quit. Iruka knew that they wouldn’t get any trick or treaters tonight. The weather was just so bad that parents wouldn’t risk getting their children sick. “Why don’t you tell me a story Kakashi?” Iruka mumbled sleepily. He could feel Kakashi’s chuckle reverberate through his back. “Are you sure you won’t fall asleep?” “Yeah I’m sure.” “Well there’s a legend on Orkney Island about seals that could transform into humans. Would you like to hear it?” “Yes.” “Well a long time ago, a seal came upon a shore on Orkney Island and shed its’ skin. Once it had shed its’ skin, it became a beautiful man. His hair was as yellow as the sun and his eyes were the color of sapphires. He made a life in the village even though he was an outsider. He worked hard to the gain the trust of the villagers. But there was one man who didn’t like the blond. But it wasn’t because the man was beautiful and getting more attention. It was because he wanted the blonds’ attention on him at all times. He would go out of his way to get the other to notice him, but everything failed. Then one night he noticed the blond leaving late at night. He followed the other man to the shore and was shocked when the man pulled a seal skin over his head and transformed into a seal. “The man knew what the other being was, a selkie. But he thought they were only myths. And through the legends he knew that he could keep the other beside him. He stayed on the shore all night, waiting for the return of the selkie. And when the dawn came, the selkie returned. The man followed the blond until they came to his hut and he watched through a window where the other had hid his seal skin. “He waited until the blond was out of the house later that day and snatched the skin from its’ hiding spot. He wrote a quick note and dashed off to his house. He ignored his brother as he hid the skin where only he could find it. When the blond returned later that day, he was shocked at the note. A human had his skin and he now had to obey that human. He went to other’s mansion and demanded that what was stolen be returned. But the man refused. So they lived together for years, the selkie never giving up looking for his skin. He found it years later and returned to the sea. His lover never saw him again after that.” Iruka was silent. “That’s so sad.” “What is?” “That the man wouldn’t try to win the others’ affection in a way that would interest the selkie. He had to resort to stealing the skin! That’s so wrong!” “Really? And what if I was a selkie and showed no interest in you? What would you do?” Iruka turned around with a determined look on his face. “I would not force you to be with me! I would not take your skin from you!” Kakashi laughed. “You are a strange individual. But you are so lovely, Iruka.” With that Kakashi pulled his turtle neck down and placed his lips upon Iruka’s. The brunet happily accepted that the others’ kiss. It didn’t take for Kakashi to swipe his tongue over the seam of the smaller mans’ lips. And Iruka happily opened them, accepting the wandering tongue into his mouth. Kakashi then flipped them so that Iruka was on his back and he over Iruka. The white haired man lifted the others’ shirt so he could get access to the hot skin beneath. It wasn’t long before his hands had wandered from the man’s’ side to his nipples. Within moments he had Iruka gasping under his touch, begging for more. Kakashi grinned as he moved his mouth to the brunet’s neck. He kissed the skin there gently at first and then moved onto gentle bites. This seemed to drive Iruka crazy even further. Kakashi pulled and gazed down into hooded brown eyes. He swooped down once again and claimed the lips he desired. This man was his in body and soul and he ached in his heart because he knew he would have to hurt him. But for now, he would give Iruka a reason to not forget him and pray that he wouldn’t be too mad at him. Iruka couldn’t help but try to drive up into Kakashi’s hips. The man was touching him as if he were saying goodbye. He was gentle, something Iruka didn’t want at this moment and tried to convey. But the other man wasn’t listening. The touches went from saying goodbye to cherishing. And Iruka couldn’t help the tears that formed. This was something he hadn’t felt in a long time and he hugged Kakashi. “Thank you,” he whispered. Kakashi seemed taken aback but as he took in the expression on Iruka’s face he could tell that the other man was happy. That fueled his desire even more for the human underneath him. He once again touched Iruka gently and drew his fingers along the heated skin. He didn’t dip below the other’s pants just yet. And Iruka couldn’t it. He begged for more, the touches weren’t enough now. And he knew that Kakashi had noticed that. But the other man had stilled ignored him, opting to continue with his current plan. When Iruka knew he couldn’t take it anymore, he flipped them over and ground his erection down into the man below. “I need you now!” Iruka growled as he kissed Kakashi harshly. Kakashi had known he had drove Iruka past his limits. And he swiftly picked the smaller man up and took him to Iruka’s bedroom. He didn’t want this night to be sullied by making love on the couch. When they came to his room, he quickly placed Iruka on the rather large bed. The two men practically tore their clothing off before Kakashi joined Iruka on the bed. The brunet pulled Kakashi closer to him and kissed him deeply, conveying his feelings in that one kiss. And Kakashi of course returned the sentiments. It didn’t take though for the kiss to end and Kakashi placed his lips upon Iruka’s neck once more. He bit the skin rougher this time. Iruka arched up into Kakashi’s pale body, his erection making contact with a thigh. “Please Kakashi, just take me already. I can’t…gah.” Kakashi obeyed Iruka. He knew that if he continued that the other one would come. It had been a long time since anyone lay with Iruka and he wouldn’t spoilt their time together like that. He quickly found the lube in the drawer and poured a decent amount onto his fingers. He brought his fingers to Irukas’ behind and deftly slid them between his cheeks. He circled the hole with his middle finger before sliding it in, stretching it to make room for another. It wasn’t long before he could add another and stretched Iruka further. He could tell the other man was uncomfortable and tried to find the bundle of nerves that would make things better. He found it on the fifth try when Iruka arched and moaned. Kakashi swiftly added another finger and made sure to hit the prostate. Iruka was quickly turning into a pile of goo and he knew from the sounds that the man was close. So Kakashi quickly withdrew his finger and pulled Iruka close to him. “Are you ready?” Iruka nodded and braced himself for what was coming next. But Kakashi slid in slowly, making the discomfort bearable. He was certainly bigger than his fingers. And Iruka relaxed as Kakashi was in to the hilt. They lay there for a few moments before Kakashi pulled out and slowly pushed back in. The rhythm between them was slow and sensual. And Iruka felt like he was truly loved in that moment. He opened his eyes and gazed up into mismatched eyes. He could tell that his feelings were returned and nothing mattered more. That gaze served to bring him closer to the edge. And then he felt a hand on his cock. He couldn’t help but moan louder at the sensation. But then Kakashi had found his prostate and the world gotten brighter. He so close now and with a few more he came, Kakashi spilling his own seed a few minutes later. Kakashi had collapsed into Iruka’s arms and he placed his head between neck and shoulder. They bother basked in the afterglow and then fell asleep. ~Several Years Later~ Iruka grumbled as he opened the door bell went off again. It was Halloween night and the weather was perfect for children to go around collecting candy. But it wasn’t a happy day for Iruka. It was the day that that man had left after they had made love. He had been so heartbroken that he had taken a few days off work to gather himself. He didn’t want the kids to suffer because of his foul mood. And when he returned to work, he was in slightly better spirits. But even as the years rolled by, the pain didn’t go away. Kakashi had just left without a word sometime during the early morning. And by the time Iruka had woken up, he had split town. Iruka had never gotten over Kakashi, no matter how hard he had tried. And he had never forgotten the story the man had told him as well. He had told it to his students every Halloween. And with time the story became easier to tell. Of course he had to edit the part about the two men, but other than that, he kept the story the same. The students were sad that the pretty lady had left someone who had loved her. But after Iruka had explained why she left, they were more understanding. The brunet brushed the memories from his mind and grabbed the candy bowl he had waiting in the kitchen. He threw the door and could only stare in shock. He dropped the bowl and went crying into the man’s arms. He couldn’t believe that after seven years, Kakashi had returned to him. All the anger and lectures he had built up disappeared as the other man held him gently. He pulled and looked up into a face that was still covered by the turtleneck. “You’re back.” He whispered. “Yes I have returned.” Kakashi smiled. “I have a gift for you.” The brunet left the warm embrace and retreated back into the apartment, Kakashi following with a wrapped box. They sat down on the couch and a silence fell over the room. The white haired had pretty much stayed the same since Iruka had last seen him. At least he was still alive and healthy. That was all that counted. “I want you to have this. I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that you deserve this.” Iruka took the gift gently from Kakashi and placed his on his lap. It was rather long, but not very tall. He removed the wrapping paper in a calm manner and when he opened it, he gasped, “I can’t take this!” This was the final piece to the puzzle. “Then you know what it is?” “Yes, but I don’t want this Kakashi!” “I am a Selkie Iruka. And to keep from hurting you further and stay by your side, I want you to burn it. I would give that away just for you.” Iruka felt tears welling up in his eyes and placed the box on the floor with reverence. He stood and placed himself on his knees in front of Kakashi and looked up into one black eye, “I will not destroy something that is a part of you. I will hide it but I will never destroy it.” Kakashi let out a cry and bent forward, hugging Iruka the best he could. “I love you.” Iruka returned the same three words and cried along with Kaskashi. He finally understood why the man had left all those years ago. But the main thing was that he had returned to him and Iruka couldn’t help the relief that left him. They were together and that’s all that mattered. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
