Title: Darkness to Darkness Pairing: NaruSasu Warnings: TONS of angst!!!! Sexual situations, language, older Naruto (not shota) Summary: Naruto has always watched Sasuke from afar in that of the raven’s paintings… As an artist himself, an author of romance novels, he feels connected to the other in some way. Can the two help each other overcome the darkness in their respective lives? Prologue ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was busy tonight. But that was to be expected. Sasuke Uchiha was actually going to show up for one of his gallery showings and that was rarely heard of. No one could really say why the good looking young artist never came to his own shows but most who came to see them 'mainly women' just figured he was shy. "Shy, yeah right, more like scared out of his mind." Naruto Uzumaki, an artist of his own in a sense headed through the doors of the well lit art gallery, it was all dedicated to Sasuke tonight and Naruto couldn't be happier. The raven was his favorite artist after all, even if he had never seen or met the man before. The dark raven haired young man glared at the gathering below him. "I never wanted this large amount of people at my show...." He said to his manager who was in the background, looking over the projected revenue. "All you care about is the money involved and not my artistic soul! I don't paint to gain money; I paint as a free form of self expression!" The petite blonde woman scoffed at Sasuke's words and waved them away as if they were meaningless. "Don't be silly, Sasuke. I'm well aware of your view on art. Trust me; this is not benefiting me in the least. I'm just trying to get you a bit more exposed..." "Exposed huh?" Sasuke said as he turned his head back down to the crowd below and sighed. -If I wanted to be exposed...I would already be...- He let his eyes wonder and amidst the sea of brown and black haired people. He saw someone with radiant blond hair, staring in quiet contemplation of his newest work entitled 'Ode to Death'. Naruto couldn't help but stare in thought at the newest display. The piece wasn't at the last exhibition and frankly the blonde had to wonder what went through the Uchiha's head. He was really intrigued and hoped he could have a chance to meet the kid tonight. Well, more like young adult, but for all intents and purposes, 20 compared to Naruto's 29 was a pretty large gap in age. The Uchiha kept his eyes on the blond, not even noticing that he was licking his lips in hunger. -I think I have seen him before. He's been to several...- "Sasuke, are you listening to me?" Annett, Sasuke's manager, huffed in annoyance. "Would you stop staring at men for one minute? You have to go down there and speak soon." Sasuke gulped as he tore his sight from the blond and glared at Annett. "Please do not remind me. I do not want to speak. I want to remain hidden. I don't want people to place my face with my art." "Why not? People love you! And it's not like they haven't seen your face before. Remember your self portrait?" Annett grabbed Sasuke's arm and began to drag the taller man toward the stairs. "Don't be such a baby. You don't have to speak for very long; just thank them for coming and wish them a good night and you're done!" Sasuke cling to the metal post in the upper story but his sweat loosened his fingers. "That self portrait was never to be seen by public eyes!" The Uchiha muttered loudly as the fingers slipped from the bar and he was forced to follow the lady. "Please don't make me speak..." He softly pleaded, already getting nervous as he came down the stairs. "You have too; it's already in the program." She kept a firm grip to Sasuke's wrist as she led him down the stairs as a man in a suit announced Sasuke's arrival down in the main gallery. Naruto turned from the fascinating painting and stared at the figures coming down the stairs. Everyone was speaking in excited hushed murmurs and Naruto could only smirk at seeing the way the figure behind the woman was trying to stall his arrival as much as possible. Sasuke gulped and tried to make himself smaller behind Annett. Taking the podium, Sasuke coughed to clear his throat and looked to the center of the crowd, his eyes staring at the blue eyes belonging to that blond hair and he spoke. "Welcome everyone to my gallery tonight. I hope that you enjoy yourself here." Naruto swore he felt some kind of current flow through him when his eyes locked with Sasuke's. That was extremely strange but not all unappealing. He couldn't help but love the way the man's voice sounded, rich and a little deep but still sounding young. It was just plain sexy... The blonde couldn't help but send a wink toward the other, harmless really, but Naruto was never one to pass up a bit of fun. Seeing the wink, Sasuke stuttered in his speech but not too much to which the rest of the audience could notice it. "Please...have a good evening here at the gallery." He bowed out, walking quickly past his manager and trying to find some peace and quiet. "I hate these events..." Annett kept the fans at bay and let Sasuke have his moment alone. The man really was way too stressed out over this. Naruto weaved his way through the throng of people and snuck passed the small blonde girl who was undoubtedly Sasuke's manager and slowly walked toward the small balcony where Sasuke stood, breathing in the night air. "You're not good with people are you?" "No I am not..." Sasuke said softly as he turned his head to match eyes with the blond again. "What are you doing here, how did you get past Annett?!" Naruto just chuckled and walked to stand next to the shorter man, leaning against the railing of the balcony. "She's a bit busy... Plus, I'm really good at sneaking by people." Sasuke gulped and tried to move away from the blond. "Please....this is my...my private area... Please..." He cast his eyes downward, scared to make eye contact with him. Naruto stared for a moment at the dark haired man; then smiled a bit. "What? Scared of me or something? Trust me, I'm harmless, but I do think you're very attractive, not to mention your art is equally as attractive." Freezing in his steps, Sasuke shot his head up but didn't look behind him. "You...like my art...? And me?" "Why else would I be here?" Naruto took a step forward but saw how the raven tensed in warning so he stayed where he was. "Do you drink coffee? I'm sure you want to get out of here don't you?" "I do...and I do. I hate these gallery nights. They always make me feel dirty. Like I am selling my soul to the devil....named Annett." "Well... My friend owns a small cafe about ten minutes away from here... if you're interested that is. And yes, before you ask, I'm asking you out. Just so we're clear." Sasuke crossed his arms over his chest and sighed as he rubbed his forearms. "Al...Alright; I accept." He said as he slowly turned around, his head still down to the ground, eyes not looking up, not daring to look in the blue orbs. -When I made eye contact, I just ...my body froze.- Naruto held out his hand to the younger man. "Shall we go then? I'll walk you to your car, that is, if you drove here... did you?" "No; my apartment is actually the next floor up. I literally live with my work." Sasuke smirked as he looked up, a bit happy at his own joke. Naruto just smiled, he couldn't help it; he was instantly attracted to Sasuke. Not only in looks but he could tell instantly that Sasuke's personality matched his own in a sense. Of course he could tell they were completely different but those types usually went so well together. "Well then, I guess I'm driving." Since Sasuke wasn't going for his hand, Naruto took the initiative and grabbed Sasuke's hand himself, linking their fingers together. The blonde was always known for his boldness. Sasuke looked at the hand that was betwixt his own hand. Sasuke slowly smiled. -I think I can like this guy- he thought to himself as he was taken out of the gallery and out into the streets. "This...is so wow..." He smiled brightly and looked up at the black sky, the city lights masking the stars. "I...have never been out so late..." This time Naruto straight out laughed. "You sound like those cliché damsel in distress princesses... You've seriously never been out this late?" He shook his head, seeing the glare sent his way. "Sorry, you're just too cute." "I...don't often go out. I just go out to get small meals or more paint. Never at night though..." Sasuke said as he looked to Naruto, his eyes in a semi-permanent glare. Naruto merely shook his head once more before pressing the button on his keys that unlocked his car. Stepping forward, the blonde reached passed Sasuke and opened the passenger door and stood there, waiting with a smile for Sasuke to get in. "Come on, look a little bit happier. You're on a date after all." The Uchiha looked to him and nodded. "I will try to smile if you can tell me, why you seem to stare so much at my art, especially my newest piece, 'Ode to Death'. Something you like in that work; anything speaking out to you?" After Sasuke was in his seat Naruto leaned down a bit into the car so he could speak just a bit quieter to the younger man. "Yeah, something did speak to me in that piece... you're pain, it was very powerful..." With that, he closed the door and walked around to his side before sliding into the seat and starting the car. Nodding and folding his hands together, he spoke softly. "That one...was due to my family's death. My...brother..." He gulped as he voice cracked a bit. "Killed my parents and then himself." Naruto's gaze flicked over to Sasuke for a brief moment before focusing back on the road. "I had no idea... that's terrible. But... why are you telling me this? I mean, you just met me." "You said I was in pain. I am telling you my source." Sasuke said flatly as he starred at the road. "All my works are based off my family." He added softly as he turned his head to the right, looking out the window. Naruto sighed, he felt like a complete asshole. Sasuke had obviously been through a lot in his short life and the blonde couldn't even see passed his own attraction to even consider that Sasuke may be dealing with things. "Sorry I kind of forced this date on you... but in all fairness, it was kind of an impulse move." Sasuke didn't move or even acknowledge what the blond said. He just continued to stare outside on the streets. Naruto cursed himself and pulled into a parallel parking space before turning off the car and taking off his seat belt. "Hey, you ok?" He rested a hand on Sasuke’s shoulder and almost drew back at how tense the muscles there were. Sasuke continued to look outside as he saw the coffee shop. "I...know this place...My...brother did open mic...He wrote poetry..." Naruto linked his fingers with Sasuke's like he had earlier on the balcony, but this time he was trying to comfort. "We don't have to go in if you don't want too. We can go somewhere else." "No...No...I'll be alright. You said that your friend owned this shop? I just wonder if they knew about Itachi...Maybe they can tell me how great of a guy he was..." Sasuke said almost in a distracted way as he got out of the car and walked to the shop, breaking the connection with Naruto. The blonde followed Sasuke into the cafe and the smell of coffee immediately hit him full force but now... he really didn't feel like anything. What the hell had he gotten himself into? Not that he regretted ever introducing himself... wait... he never did introduce himself. What the hell was wrong with him? He grabbed the raven's hand once more and dragged him outside. "Are you always this reckless? What if I was some kind of kidnapper?! You don't even know who I am! You never even asked me who I was..." Sasuke blinked a few times to clear his confusion. "I didn't get the feeling off of you." "But still... Well, either way, my name's Naruto Uzumaki I'm..." he paused and looked down at Sasuke. "Wait... you didn't know who I was when I saw you earlier at the gallery?" "You have attended almost every one of my gallery openings. To be completely honest...I like seeing your blond hair stand out from the crowd, Uzumaki...Naruto." It was official then... Sasuke really didn't know who he was. Not that the blonde had any problem with that, it was nice not to have people throwing themselves at him because of who he was. "Well... I really love your artwork. I can tell you have a lot of drive and passion when it comes to what you do." Naruto smiled and leaned down to kiss Sasuke's cheek. "We're more alike than you think Sasuke... really." Sasuke froze as his heart leaped into his throat. "You...just...kissed me...." He softly muttered as he slowly moved his head to face Naruto. "Why...?" "I'm sorry, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable, but I couldn't help it." Naruto took a step back. Sasuke shook his head. "No...No....it's alright..." He muttered as he opened and closed his hand. "Wow....I’ve never been told that I’m attractive or anything like that..." "Probably because you never let anyone tell you. You have no idea how popular you are in the art world... and not just because of your art." Naruto took Sasuke's hand once more, a habit he found himself quite enjoying. "Come on, I think we should go somewhere else." "Go...? Go where? The shop is fine. Wait..." Sasuke was slow at understanding this. “I’m confused Naruto. Who are you?" "Now you wanna know?" Naruto asked with a chuckle as he smiled down at the man he was falling hard for more and more each minute. "Don't worry, you'll find out. But if you really don't mind being here, then we can stay." "Let's just get a coffee. If Annett found out that I’m out here...I'd probably get yelled at." Naruto opened the door for the raven and followed the man inside. "Why do you let her boss you around like a kid? You're an adult aren't you? I believe around 20 if I'm not mistaken..." "Twenty one actually; and I do it...because ...I need some sort of mother figure and Annett fell into my lap and just took control. But...it's alright...She's turned my studio and work around. I don't like the fact that my work is being sold...but it's paying for my paints, canvases, and even my rent..." Naruto nodded and walked with Sasuke to the counter. He nodded at the girl behind the counter. He knew here pretty well... he was a regular after all. "Well... I don't think you should have to sell your art if you don't want too. But if it sells well, you may want to consider making prints of your work to sell, then if you do decide to sell the original of a piece it would be worth even more." Sasuke nodded and thought for a minute. "Alright, that sounds like a good idea." When the young barista came to get their orders, Sasuke looked at the menu and his jaw dropped. "There’s so many different variations of the coffee. What do you suggest?" Naruto thought for a moment. "For you... I think the Chai is the best way to go... It's soothing and it tastes amazing." Sasuke nodded and repeated the order to the lady. "Chai please..." "And I'll have the usual... can't live without it." Naruto smiled at the woman whom he'd known since she was a teenager and first started working there. Before Sasuke could even consider pulling out his wallet Naruto spoke up again. "I'll be paying for both." Sasuke looked to him and shook his head. "Naruto...I have money. I can pay..." "I'm well aware of that... but like I've been saying all night. I'm the one taking YOU out. So I'm paying." And with that, he handed the woman his bank card. Sasuke pulled back his wallet and nodded in silence. He scoped out the place and saw a table in the back and proceeded to walk towards it, leaving the blond to pick up the drinks. Before Sasuke could make it too far, Naruto placed a hand on the other's shoulder to stop him. "I was thinking... we could go for a walk... I want to show you something..." He handed Sasuke his drink. "Is that ok?" Taking the warm drink in his hands and smelling the aroma, Sasuke nodded. "Sure..." Naruto smiled again, something he couldn't help doing around Sasuke and grabbed the raven's pale hand, leading him out of the cafe. "I know you wanted to know who I am... And I want to show you. Quite frankly I'm not even sure if you'll even know who I am once I do show you. You may be a bit young." "Young nothing...." Sasuke murmured as he took a sip. "I still know a lot. Maybe more than you in some areas..." Naruto chuckled and began to lead Sasuke down the sidewalk at a slow casual pace. "I don't doubt it; but this particular thing... I'm not sure is really in your interest." "What is it…? Sex?" Sasuke smirked as he took a long sip and not hearing a remark he looked at him. "You write porn, don't you?" "No, I don't write porn... well, not exactly. It’s hard to describe really. Some may call it porn, others, like me, call it, romance with a bit of steam thrown in..." All this was said casually as they walked. Naruto was very proud of his work and he found it a bit amusing how fast people will jump to conclusions. But once they read his books, they understand. Sasuke narrowed his eyes and then nodded his head. "I knew I heard your name. Annett reads your books." Naruto smirked. "Really now... never pictured her to be the type to read my stuff." He stopped suddenly and turned to face Sasuke. "Does it bother you, that I write things like that?" "Wouldn't know, never read it." He sipped the drink and looked to the blonde. "Wonderful choice of drink by the way." He smirked as he walked forward. "Well...you gonna show me?" Naruto shook his head before taking a sip of his own drink, a very strong espresso that really shouldn't be given to anyone for its high levels of caffeine. "We're not that far, don't worry." They walked for a bit more before entering a small park. It was well lit, obviously for the people who liked to jog and whatnot during the evenings. It was a pretty safe neighborhood so the park was devoid of any loiterers or questionable people. Naruto took Sasuke's hand and led him to a small bench that looked over a pond. "This is what I wanted to show you. I guess it's kind of like my inspiration spot... Although I usually come here during the day when there's people out... you know, couples..." "A famous author like yourself…lonely; hard to believe..." Sasuke said a bit bitterly as he drained the last bit of his drink and tossed it in the trashcan near the bench in a clean shot. Leaning on the bench back, he yawned a bit. "Mmm....you were right. That drink does feel good." "I never said I was lonely..." Even though he tried to sound convincing, even Naruto had to admit that the words came out sounding forced. "I do write books about couples you know..." "Your dreams then… You want what you write. A simple truth about artists, we all place a bit of ourselves in our work. You in your writing… You do write what you want...I paint what I feel." Naruto knew it was the truth and he was stupid to try and convince another artist that he didn't want what was in his books. Of course he did. He had had relationships but none of them lasted. He had both men and women but no one felt right... But Sasuke... he did and it really scared Naruto. For the first time, he felt truly connected to someone. He said nothing as he finished his coffee and threw it away as well. Looking at the smaller man, Naruto walked around to the front of the bench and sat. "You're right... I do want what I give people in my books... I write it so well you'd think I could make a relationship last." "Let me guess...You had many, but none worked out?" Sasuke guessed out loud as he pulled his right leg up and hugged it, leaning on it. "Yeah... Basically..." Naruto wasn't sure why he was telling Sasuke everything about himself... maybe it was the same reason Sasuke told him about his brother... Not that the blonde knew the reason why Sasuke told him that, but maybe it was the same... "You're the first person I've felt truly comfortable with in a long time..." There was a quiet pause before he spoke again. "My parents aren't alive either... I don't think... I've felt this close to someone since they died." Realizing what he was saying, Naruto laughed nervously. "God, I probably sound like a nutcase right now...." "You do...but that's ok." Sasuke said as he smiled from a weird angle as he hugged his leg and looked towards the lake. "I have to admit as well that I feel...at ease with you. It's weird because I rarely talk to outsiders. I do the art...to make me happy. If others are happy with what they see...who am I to judge...?" He muttered the last part as he continued to look at the lake. "I've having a great time..." "I'm glad you're having a good time... You deserve to be happy. And don't tell me you are; I know you aren't. Remember your words... 'we always place a bit of ourselves in our work'..." Naruto glanced over and couldn't help but marvel at how beautiful Sasuke was in moonlight. "I really want to kiss you right now.... but I don't know... if I should." The moonlight was shining brightly on Sasuke's raven locks and even more so in his eyes as he lowered his right leg back to the ground, breaking the last of the barriers that he had set up to protect himself. "So...what's stopping you?" He asked in a bit of a cocky tone, a playful look in his eyes and a pair of lips that were just begging to be ravaged upon. That was all Naruto was looking for... and he leaned forward to taste those tempting lips. He lingered there longer than he anticipated but honestly, he just couldn’t pull away. Once he did pull away, it was to only scoot himself closer so he could wrap his arms around Sasuke and kiss the younger man again... and again... and again. TBC Well there you have it!
