The attention of coal black eyes was caught by a small shimmer as of one drop of perspiration formed under Sakura’s jaw line and then began a tantalizing journey. It made its way slowly down her shoulder. It traveled inch by agonizing inch, leaving a small trail on the creamy pale skin, until it pooled in the crook of her arm. She did not seem to notice like he did, however. No, her jade eyes saw nothing judging by the way that they were shut tightly closed, contrasting greatly with her mouth. Her moist, pink lips were parted wide as to let the wanton sounds of her pleasure escape all the easier. On a whim, Sasuke leaned forward and pressed his tongue to Sakura’s collarbone and traced it upward until it met the place where her distracting bead of sweat had begun its arousal-inspiring expedition. This action, however, drew a small sound, not from the victim of his minor ministration, but from the male behind her. Sasuke raised his head and his eyes came level with Naruto’s. For as long as the three of these ninja had been enjoying the mechanics of a threesome, Sasuke nor Naruto had broken through the wall that Sakura made physically. If hands of one man touched the flesh of another, there were no mumbled apologies, only quick retractions. Not tonight, Sasuke thought to himself. I have waited long enough. Sasuke leaned forward and pressed his open mouth roughly against Naruto’s… Sasuke jumped violently, not sure at first what had woken him from his sleep. He sat up in his bed and looked around his room, ignoring the snow piled up on his windowsill and registering two other things at once. One, there was nothing and no one in his room that had woken him up and two, that meant that Naruto and Sakura had gone home last night after their typical shared romp. There was an immediate crashing sound from the direction of his front door that shook the raven-haired young man from his thoughts of and reflections on the previous night. He guessed in the back of his mind that the knocking was what had woken him up. His groggy thoughts were quickly recaptured, however, by thoughts of his most recent sexual encounter with his teammates. He had once again refused to satiate the unusual and pressing hunger that demanded he embrace Naruto. His dream was just that… a dream. The guest at the door, however, did not have time, apparently, for him to think about such frivolous occurrences as dreams. There was another horrible crashing sound and Sasuke leapt to his feet, taking only a moment to tie a robe at his waist, so as not to shock his intruder with the hardened surprise that he had woken up with. He shot a quick, appraising glance at the clock over the stove as he made his way to the foyer. It was nearly one in the afternoon. After a quick muttered “Shit!”, he flung the door open to face who or what was determined to prevent his kiss, whether actual or not, with Naruto. Oh! Naruto! The blonde had his fists raised, and it looked as if he were going to beat down the door on his next attempt. His blue eyes were wide with an emotion that Sasuke did not immediately recognize… Was it fear? Anxiety? The shock of blonde hair that framed his head and face was dusted heavily with snow powder. Sasuke took a step back out of instinct and Naruto almost ran across the threshold. Before Sasuke could open his mouth to ask Naruto what was wrong, the young blonde burst into speech. “She’s gone! She just left and there was only a note but she’s gone and I’ve checked everywhere but she’s really gone!” “Naruto,” Sasuke interrupted quietly, with patience only years of experience could grant. “Calm down. Who’s gone?” “Sakura!” Naruto shouted, throwing his hands up in the air as if Sasuke were asking the most frivolous and trivial question, but as reality had it, much of what Naruto had shouted did not make immediate sense. Sasuke had grasped only one concept before his mind launched into typical mission analysis: Sakura was missing. When, however, the idea that Sakura had left without first saying a goodbye, Sasuke felt a clamp tighten around his heart. Why would Sakura leave? It seemed that her life was going well recently… Or perhaps Sasuke was only seeing her life through the bright filter that their threesome had placed over his eyes. Had there been a cry for help that he had missed? His mind traveled over the past eighteen months, every smile, every gasp, every holiday… No, Sasuke did not remember anything wrong with the pink-haired woman. He took a deep breath and collected his thoughts for a moment before attempting to speak again. “You said that she left a note?” He asked in a business-like tone as he made his way back in the direction of his bedroom. Naruto followed, nodding vehemently as Sasuke swung the door to his personal quarters wide open. The blonde entered and took a seat on his friend’s bed. “Here,” he said, his shaking hands pulling a crumpled piece of paper from his jacket pocket. When Sasuke, too busy dressing in his typical mission gear, did not reach for it, Naruto thought it appropriate to read it out loud. “Naruto or Sasuke, whoever finds this first,” he spoke to Sasuke across the room. “I had to leave early this morning. I won’t be back. Don’t follow me. Sakura.” His voice caught a little at the end of the short note and he looked up at Sasuke, who had paused in the process of loading his belongings into his pack and was staring thoughtfully into the wintry day outside of his window. “Naruto,” Sasuke began, taking several steps towards the bed, his eyes not leaving the bright white fluff on his windowsill. He was prepared to describe to his friend the gear he needed to go home and pack so that they could begin a retrieval mission immediately. Before he could begin, a small sob drew his attention and Sasuke found himself biting back a disapproving remark. Then he saw Naruto’s face hidden in his hands, and came to the immediate conclusion that Naruto needed to be pushed back into a good place. He shifted his stare back out of the window and clenched his fists. This was no time for hysterics, either way. “You need to get yourself together. We will not be able to bring her back if-” “Bring her back?” Naruto asked incredulously. “She left and said ‘Don’t follow me.’ She won’t come back. He rubbed his palms vigorously against his eyes. Sasuke altered his gaze to focus back on Naruto to see the look of pain on his face and felt a small stab of pity for the blonde fox-container. This was the second time in his life that one of his closest friends appeared to have left without his consideration, and one of countless times the good-hearted young man had been abandoned. “Naruto,” said Sasuke. When Naruto did not react to his name, Sasuke crossed the remaining distance between him and the bed and put hands on both sides of Naruto’s jaw. He tilted it up forcefully so that the blue eyes were given no choice but to meet the coal ones. “Naruto. Did you give up when I left?” “No,” Naruto mumbled. “Did you take what I said at face value and decide that there was no hope?” “No,” Naruto said, a little stronger. “Well, I am back, am I not? We have to do the same for Sakura.” He paused and looked around the room before hastily dropping his hands. “Unless you do not care about her any longer.” “Of course not!” Naruto shouted, jumping angrily to his feet. “She- You two- I would die before leave behind a friend.” Sasuke smirked triumphantly to himself and continued to pack weapons and scrolls into his pack. When all of the pockets were full, he continued packing his Chuunin flak jacket. Naruto’s eyes filled with question. “You know it probably won’t take much force, right? We can knock her out, if we even have to, without all of that,” he added, gesturing at the weapons that Sasuke was now loading onto his person. “I’m not worried about incapacitating her, Naruto.” Sasuke paused and snatched the note off of his messy bed. His eyes scanned over it briefly. “I’m worried about incapacitating a kidnapper.” ~x~ “Though this is her handwriting, it does seem out of character and suspicious,” Tsunade agreed, looking at the letter in her hands. “She did not alert the hospital of any plans to leave. Have you checked her residence?” Sasuke nodded. “She took with her most of her weapons and scrolls, several days worth of clothing and all of her funds.” Tsunade sighed heavily and leaned back in her chair. Her hands migrated to her temples where they rested, occasionally rubbing in circles. After several minutes, she sat forward and placed her elbows on the desk. “This is what we’re going to do,” she said evenly. “I really don’t want to send out an alert that our top medic is a missing-nin, and I know you don’t want her chased down and punished. Because this is so suspicious, I’m going to move her case up to ‘forceful kidnap’ with a ‘potential homicide’ warning.” Every bone in Naruto’s body froze. He felt flames of emotion licking his ribs and his heart. His hands began to tremble and his eyesight blurred at the edges. Just as Naruto was afraid the fox might take control of his situation, the blonde felt a warm hand grasping his shoulder. “Naruto,” Sasuke murmured. “Keep your wits.” “Yes,” Tsunade agreed. “I only attached ‘potential homicide’ for the benefit of you. First, any ninja we send after her will first chase her all that much faster, and secondly, when she is found, her kidnapper will be killed or captured for questioning, depending on the outcome of the battle.” “Tsunade-sama,” Sasuke said. “We are requesting permission to find her ourselves.” Tsunade sighed and sat back, sizing the two Jounin up. After a moment, she nodded. “Yes, I suppose that is in order. I do, however, want a tracking specialist with you. Meet at the main gate in an hour. Your mission is to track, and obtain information on the kidnapping of, Sakura Haruno. Return Sakura to the village, dead or alive. There will be no need to bring the kidnapper back,” she said, giving Sasuke a significant look. “Dismissed.” Naruto turned and walked quickly from the room, his face mixed with several emotions. Sasuke glanced at him as he left the room before taking several steps towards Tsunade’s desk and speaking with her in a hushed whisper. “Lady Hokage, do you really think that Sakura was kidnapped?” He asked, as he leaned over her desk a little. “I hope, for everyone’s sake, that she was. You know the penalty for missing-nin.” She sighed heavily and sat back once more in her chair. The clamp that had worked its way around Sasuke‘s heart tightened painfully. “And the council won’t give her the same exception that they gave you. They are not afraid of her nor is she particularly important in keeping Konoha supplied with a certain bloodline ability.” Sasuke nodded and turned to leave. Tsunade called one more thing after him. “Good luck! Keep Naruto safe!” Sasuke smirked slightly at her words and ran. ~x~ He was entirely too quiet to be acting normal, thought Sasuke first. His normal shifty grin had been defeated by a straight, concentrated line where his lips met. This was getting to be a bit wearing was Sasuke’s second thought. He complained nearly every day about Naruto’s seemingly endless amounts of energy and his constant hyperactivity, but Sasuke would never once wish it away from blonde. Seeing him without it now was like seeing a bird without wings or a ninja without weapons. “Naruto,” Sasuke said slowly, and without really knowing what he was going to say next. Naruto looked up with dismissive eyes. Sasuke sighed and jammed his fists into his pockets and took several tense steps towards his friend. “Look, I know this seems difficult, but honestly, if you’re not in your right mind,” he stopped again to think of an appropriate consequence or reaction. If Naruto was not hyper and hardheaded… The enemy would not know they were coming. There would be no covering his ass when the going got tough. Sasuke would not have to compensate for compromised information because he did not know when to shut up. Naruto would not barrel out of their hiding place the moment someone seemed to be in trouble. He would not trip any traps or put Sasuke in yet another life and death situation. Why, again, was he trying to get Naruto to become himself? Sasuke chewed lightly on his lip for a moment, before shaking his head to clear his thoughts. Naruto was his very best friend. Most days, he might wish that the blonde would take a long walk off of a short bridge, but the unspoken other half of that wish was that Sasuke would jump into the water after Naruto anytime. After all, who had brought him back to normal when he had defected? “If you’re not in your right mind, we’ll never get her back,” Sasuke said finally. “No one will take you seriously and I doubt, if it’s the case that she left for her own reasons, that she’ll want to come back.” The clouds in Naruto’s eyes, if not parted, at least lessened and he stood up, dusting the snow off of himself to give himself something to do instead of looking at Sasuke’s serious expression. Honestly, it made Naruto feel a little awkward to have to be coaxed back into himself by the most serious, cynical asshole on the planet. In the end, however, his friend was right. If he spent the entire mission acting like this, he would regret it in the end. His face fell into a determined scowl. “Alright,” Naruto said, his response almost a growl. He took a few steps towards the gate, as if to start the mission immediately, before turning to look back over his shoulder uneasily. “Aren’t we supposed to go with a tracking unit?” Naruto asked. Sasuke turned and glanced at the empty road before them and the empty skies, as well. “Yes, we are.” Sasuke stretched his senses to taste the air around them for chakra. He felt no chakra waves, either familiar or strange. “If they are not here, however, in ten minutes we are going to leave and they can catch up. They are, after all, over thirty minutes late.” “Well, you see… I did get lost on the road of life,” said a monotone voice from behind them. Both ninja spun around to face the person who accompanied the familiar voice. Sasuke scowled heavily but Naruto seemed to brighten up instantly. “Kakashi-sensei!” He called, raising a hand in greeting. One eyed creased in happiness and the jounin, too, raised a hand. “I’ve heard we have a kidnapped team member,” Kakashi said, dropping from the top of the gate where he had been sitting. He took a few steps forward before biting his thumb, managing a few quick seals, and summoning his nin dogs. “Yo, Kakashi! What’s the deal?” One of the smallest dogs asked calmly. “Well, Pakkun,” Kakashi started. “Sakura Haruno has gone missing and we need to track her. Need I say more?” “Not really,” the dog responded. He stuck his nose to the ground and gave a few heavy snuffs. “How did she get past the gate guard?” “It is not difficult,” Sasuke said with a small shrug. The dogs, who had broken apart to try to find Sakura’s scent were quickly and suddenly regrouped at the main gate. Kakashi looked questioningly at the dogs. “She walked right through here,” Pakkun said. “But her scent is mixed with that of over thirty other ninja.” “Sakura was captured by thirty ninja?” Naruto said, fear laced into his rough voice. Sasuke rolled his eyes and started walking after the dogs, who were now exiting the village, while Kakashi sighed. Naruto stood up and began walking, too, followed by his ex-teacher. “Naruto, every ninja who has ever left for a mission has left through this gate. Pakkun simply smells thirty ninja that have entered or left the village recently and-” “Kakashi, we have a problem!” one of the dogs exclaimed in a low-pitched voice. Kakashi looked up at the dogs before taking several quick strides towards where they were standing, just off to the side of the road, sticking their noses further into the snow only to withdraw whining. “What is it?” “The only scents that have traveled this direction are Might Gai and his team and Sakura. Then, Gai’s team goes west and Sakura’s trail goes east for about ten feet before her scent completely disappears.”
