Chapter 1: Part I {I don't own Naruto...and I think it is really unfair too! This yaoi, but it's a one sided attraction.

Pairings are: NaruXHina, and SasuXNaru one sided/Reluctantly returned affection.

There is character death in this...Also this is a fairytale like story, just go with it. I hope you like my story.


The Wolf and the Fox...


Part I...


In a secluded valley thickly forested there was a tribe of beautiful golden foxes.
They lived in relative harmony; other than having a run-in with hungry wolves or
the occasional poisonous viper, but otaherwise they thrived.

...That is until a creature known as man entered the valley...

...Man brought their 'boom sticks' sending 'whizzers' into their midst. Many were killed or wounded.
The foxes’ numbers dwindled to a scant few and soon the neighboring silver foxes began to overrun their territory.
A compromise was made between the two tribes and the gold and silver foxes began to interbreed.

The last of the pure blooded golden foxes and her mate were expecting a late arrival. 
It was the time of the colorful leaves and the cold winds. Most of the other foxed queened in the time of new flowers,
and warm rains. The vixen, whose coat was a fiery array of ruddy streaks and shining gold highlights,
was called Kushina; and her mate, Minato, was a strong fox. He was prized for his beautiful coat of shining gold
and shining sapphire eyes. This trait made him even more desirable. He went out hunting for meat for his vixen
one blistery cold day. That day the boom sticks were in full force. Her mate never returned.


Kushina was forced to fend for herself and the young ones that depended upon her eating.
Kushina was wicked and smart. She knew how to avoid the killing intent of the hairless beasts.
Even with her cunning she could barely manage to feed herself in her condition.
She grew too thin and soon was forced into an early labor. She lost all but one single kit.
A scrawny male whom she dubbed Naruto.

Naruto was tiny and underweight. Kushina did her best to keep herself and little Naruto fed,
"Surely you are blessed by the great spirit Kyuubi. Grow strong my son and make your father proud."

She licked the still blind kit as he nuzzled her stomach trying to find a teat to nurse on.


Over the weeks the kit grew, his eyes opened and he was blessed with the intense blue of his father.
Kushina smiled upon him lovingly. Naruto was a joy to behold the silver foxes desired his beauty,
so many proposals of an arranged mating were made. The most beautiful,
strongest and most cunning wanted their daughters to breed with him. He had his selection of pure silver
and half gold vixens. Naruto wasn't even old enough to leave the den unattended.
Even adult females were presenting themselves to him to be marked.
Kushina would just chase them off saying her son would choose when he was old enough.


One very prominent older fox had hoped to promise his eldest daughter to Naruto.
Hinata was born the season before young Naruto. She was said to be very lovely, but extremely shy.
Kushina allowed her to be brought to her den to meet Naruto.
Kushina had to agree, she was very pretty. The bluish gray fox had silvery eyes that seemed almost pale lavender.
She had a fine carriage and looked to be strong in body despite her skittish Nature.


"H-hello, Kushina ma'am," She bowed her head lowly, "Hello little Naruto."
She smiled showing her sharp white fangs before closing her mouth. She bowed to the boy.


Naruto was only half her size yet he pounced on her, "Hi! Momma said you're name is Hinata,
That's pretty! Your pretty too. She said you may be my play mate! If I wanted!"
He looked into her eyes and tilted his tiny head to the side. Hinata felt her skin tingling.

"Would you play with me?" His little tail wagged back and forth in excitement.

"Uhhhh, Uh-huh," She nodded. Naruto yipped happily and pounced on her once again.
Hinata giggled and rolled over onto her back playing dead agitating pleas from the little kit that she was not hurt.


Kushina chuckled and let them alone at the mouth of the den to play.
She left to hunt some small morsel for them and their guest,
but being sure to keep with in sight and hearing range should anything happen.
There were many more 'play dates,' courting rituals.
Naruto became so very fond of Hinata that he would cry when she had to leave.


Naruto heard the familiar whine of his playmate.
He came barreling through the den smiling happily as he tackled the young vixen.
She giggled and shook her head to detach her 'attacker.' "Good morning Naruto."

She nuzzled him receiving licks to her muzzle.
She and Naruto ran to the entrance of the den dodging and pouncing each other.
Naruto nipped at the female's soft pelt a little more roughly then he had meant to;
eliciting a sharp cry and then whimpers as a small patch of red appeared soaking into her soft fur.

Naruto panicked, "Hinata! Hinata! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" He came over to her and began lapping at the wound.
Kushina had been out on the prowl for dinner when she heard the sharp cry of pain.
She had come running to find Naruto tending the female's wound as a mate might.

She approached. Naruto growled in a not so friendly way at his mother feeling his play mate was threatened.
He turned and viscously snapped at her.


"N-Naruto?" Hinata gasped, "Your mother? Please calm down I'm not badly injured see?"

She tilted her head to the side baring her neck which was no longer bleeding, but was making the juvenile feel funny. 
A tingling sensation ran down his spine seeing the vixen bare her neck for him.

Kushina chuckled, "Tend to your mate little one."

She trotted off to find the rabbit she had injured earlier that day,
hoping that she found it before something bigger came along to snap it up.
Naruto and Hinata stared after both feeling flushed with embarrassment.
Neither said a thing but Hinata suddenly felt to tired to play, "I think it is time for a nap little Naruto."

She curled up and soon found the small todd curling up in front of her in a decidedly protective manner.
She smiled sleepily and closed her eyes. Naruto had the makings of an excellent mate.


Little Naruto grew in leaps and bounds and in a few months he overshot the petite bluish silver fox.
Hinata sat with Kushina as a shadow over took her. A slight growl was heard not threatening,
but playful and perhaps she had imagined it but it was on the verge of possessive.
Naruto rested his muzzle on the top of her head sniffing at her glorious wild musk.

Kushina grinned at her handsome son. Naruto looked like almost a copy of his father;
and she took the opportunity to say so, "You make me think of Minato. You are so like him my precious son."

The older vixen smiled stretching as she got up,
"I hate to ask this of you but I need you to take something to old lady Tsunade."


She walked away quickly returning with something in her mouth. She dropped it on the floor of the cave.
Firstly there was a freshly killed rabbit, and on top of the rabbit was a packet made of carefully folded leaves.
Kushina explained that Tsunade was ill and she needed medicine, and food.


Tsunade was a wise old fox rumored to be very beautiful despite her advanced age.
Naruto had never had the opportunity to meet the vixen.
She was revered for her wisdom and intelligence.
Kushina had often taken food or medicine to the old fox who some say was dying of a prolonged illness.
Others told it that she was actually a daughter of the great Kyuubi and an immortal in disguise.
That many claimed was the reason for her legendary beauty,
and why she spent her life in a secluded den and never took a mate.


"You can follow my scent trail most of the way, but once you get close it is cut off.
Just know that there is a vast system of caves.
She lives in them and once you make your presence known she will alert you to her location.
She is very wise, but paranoid at this point in her life.
She will trust you because you share my scent. You may encounter her protégé Shizune,
but I think she had to journey to the ocean to collect a certain kind of rock that Tsunade needs."


She paused and waited for her son to speak. She could tell he was excited, "Ask your question?"


"What does Lady Tsunade do momma?" He grinned in excitement.


"Magic," The elder vixen answered, "...And healing, but she still needs medicine for herself.
I sometimes get her herbs and special grasses that she uses to heal herself and others who are in need,
but she rarely leaves her caves any longer. She has every todd after her to mate
even though she is long past child bearing years." His mother sighed before returning to the task at hand.

Naruto was bouncing with excitement. His mother nipped his ear sharply, "Pay attention boy."


"Sorry Momma," He bowed his head in respect and calmed down.


"Listen son, I want you to be careful. Go straight there and back...and you must watch for wolves."

His ears flattened. Hinata whined in worry.

Kushina continued, "Just stay low and try not to do anything foolish. Her cave is close to the wolves' territory."


"I wouldn't even send you but I have to meet with the elders and she needs this desperately..."

She trailed off and looked at him then the young vixen that was standing by his side,
"Be careful my son and when you get back the three of us are going to have a conversation about your joining."

Hinata blushed pink under her pale blue fur. Naruto groaned playfully.
He had known 'the talk' was inevitable since Hinata's first heat started
...and all the todds after her tail.

Naruto had been in numerous fights over the pretty female.
He himself had to fight the urge to simply mount her and claim her several times,
but that was not the way things were supposed to be done in a civilized clan.


"Fine Momma. I'll be careful and I'll be back quickly,"
He turned to give Hinata a swift lick up her neck before whispering, "I love you Nata."

He picked up the packet and the rabbit running out of the cave in a flash.
Kushina looked after her precious only and last kit.
She had many suitors, being a golden fox and a very pretty one at that made her desirable,
but nobody could replace Minato in her heart. She whined quietly. 

Hinata rubbed her body against the older female trying to comfort her.
Kushina dried her tears with a paw before straightening up,
"Come Hinata, we have to go meet with the elders about your joining."

They took off for the main den to meet with the oldest, wisest, and most powerful foxes of the pack.
