Lifetimes Chapter One – The Dreams Sasuke smirked and kissed the man in front of him softly, holding him against his chest and whispering nonsense into his ear. Nartuto laughed and kissed him back before reluctantly pulling away and walking towards the main gates of Konoha. “Don’t die, dobe.” Sasuke called over to him, waving as the blonde rolled his eyes and waved back. When Naruto was nearing the gate, the raven turned around and headed home, worry coiling in his gut. His idiot of a boyfriend was one of the best ninja in the village, but even the best faced death a few times in their life. Naruto was reckless and Sasuke always worried. Eyes going wide, Sasuke turned to tell the idiot he loved him, but Naruto was all ready out of sight. The dread was still there, like not saying ‘I love you’ to the moron was going to make something happen. Even as he tried to shake himself out of it, he felt like something was just waiting in the wings to sweep down and steal his most precious person away. The dream always started the same way. He would be standing in front of a gate with a blonde haired man, smiling and whispering things in his ear that he couldn’t hear himself. This blonde, Naruto, would smile and kiss him, fingers touching his cheek. The dream would dissolve after the man walked away, but then something scarier, and much more darker would appear. His body lie still, pale, cold. Dead. Sasuke took Naruto’s hand in his, ignoring the silent tears streaming down his cheeks as he kissed it, nuzzling his cheek against the slightly rough skin. His hair wasn’t as bright now, a dull yelow in contrast to what it was before. The color of his eyes were gray, like he was a blind man. It still didn’t look real. He couldn’t believe that his best friend, his rival, his everything wasn’t in that familiar body anymore. He was gone. “Naruto.” He moaned, laying his forehead on the man’s chest, feeling the painful absence of his heartbeat. He was gone. He would wake up sobbing, clutching his blanket in a death grip, wondeirng who the hell this ‘Naruto’ was and wishing the strange man was there to put his pain at ease. Of course it was pain, even if the him in the dream wasn’t actually him now. Their clothes looked too odd to be from his time. …Or universe. When he was able to falll asleep again, he had other dreams, of happier times before the blonde died. There was a pink haired girl named Sakura, and a man they called Kakashi sensei that read an orange book with the words ‘Ichia Icha Paradise’ in bold print on the front. Then those dreams started, filled with his blood and salty tears. The blade of the kunai cut gracefully over his left wrist, leaving a deep, gushing cut that would surely end his life if he didn’t take care of it soon. He laughed hysterically as he cut his other wrist, watching the blood pool on the sink, his relfection white in the mirror. “Naruto, Naruto, Naruto.” He sighed as he left the bathroom, trailing little drops of blood on his way to their bedroom and threw himself onto the bare mattress. The voice in his head was laughing at him, calling him weak, reminding him of his losses. Sasuke snorted as he grabbed the picture frame from the nightstand, vision blurring slightly as tears started down his cheeks. “I love you, dobe.” He whispered, kissing the picture before setting it down on his bare chest, breathing heavily as he slowly lost consciousness. Sasuke gasped in a sharp breath, sitting up quickly to examine his wrists. The skin there was scarred, like it’d always been ever since he was born. There was no way his dreams were connected to his scars that way. “Dammit.” He hissed, wiping away the moisutre forming in his eyes, forcing himself out of bed. He had a metting with his therapist today, to talk about his troubling dreams. Tenzou Yamato was an odd man, using a scary face whenever he wanted Sasuke to do something the raven wouldn’t. These sessions made him feel worse than before, dredging up old feelings he didn’t quite understand. Love, anger, passion, lust, possessiveness, hate. He’d been angry before, and he’d felt hatred. But when he dreamt about the blonde man-Naruto-love and passion and lust, all of these feelings came to the surface at once, threatening to drown him in their intensity. He was left breathless, hurting from a phantom pain, longing for something he couldn’t find. If this Naruto man even existed like his dreams said he did. Sassuke took a quick shower, remembering the dream and wincing when he thought about Naruto. Like before, it was just a phantom pain, deep down inside of him, like it’d been buried for years. He didn’t understand any of it. After the quick shower, Sasuke went down for breakfast, meeting his older brother at the fridge and trying to greet him happily instead of his usual way. “Morning, nii-chan.” Sasuke smiled weakly, leaning on the counter as the long haired man sifted through the fridge to find the eggs. The younger raven rubbed at his eyes, worrying about his visit with Tenzou. He was exhausted from the dreams, mentally and physically. It was getting harder and harder to concentrate on finding a College before his father decided for him. Itachi touched the top of his head, concern written clearly across his pointed features. Sasuke heaved out a long breath, moving to lean into his brother’s warmth. “The dream me committed suicide after Naruto died. He cut himself right where the scars on my wrists are.” Sasuke told him, feeling sleepy when his brother started to massage the back of his neck. “I can’t do it anymore, Itachi. The dreams are getting more vivid, like they’re actually memories and not dreams.” Itachi clicked his tongue, lifting Sasuke’s head with the tips of his fingers. “Stop worrying about it, Sasuke. You’re going to see Tenzou-san today, right? He’ll help you.” The man assured him, moving away to grab a pan from the cupboard next to the stove. Sasuke sat at the table, resting his head in his arms as he watched Itachi make breakfast. Their parents were still asleep, which meant he didn’t get enough of it, as usual. He shut his eyes for a few minutes, trying to relax enough to get his brother to stop watching him like a hawk. He was eighteen. He didn’t need to be babysat like he couldn’t take care of himself, even if the dreams were slowly driving him insane. “I can’t believe you fell asleep so easily! Are you just going to leave me like this, teme?” Naruto demanded, shaking the raven’s shoulder. Sasuke groaned and brushed him off, burrowing deeper into the circle of his arms. The blonde huffed and shook him harder, almost painfully. “Come on, asshole. Wake up!” He hissed. “Not now, dobe. I’m so tired.” Sasuke moaned, brushing his hands off again. “Dobe?” Itachi blinked, shaking his head as he shook his little brother harder, his eyebrow lifting into his hairline. “Sasuke, wake up. Breakfast is done.” The raven jerked awake and hissed softly, that phantom pain making his wrists ache. A plate of eggs, bacon, and tomato slices was set out in front of him, Itachi still looking concerned as he sat next to him at the table. “Is dobe what you call Naruto?” The long haired man asked, shaking some pepper onto his eggs. Sasuke nodded safly, staring glumly at his own plate. “What’s he like? He sounds nice.” Sasuke shook his head, not wanting to talk about the blonde right now. He just wanted to eat and talk to Tenzou about getting some anti-depressants. The dreams were starting to make it difficult to sleep or concentrate on simple conversations. He slowly started to eat his breakfast, ignoring Itachi’s concerned gaze *~* Tenzou Yamato was a very understanding man when it came to his dreams. Sasuke felt safe here, because the man had sworn to keep his strange relationship with Naruto a secret, although Itachi had to know by now. He was always so observant. “That’s an interesting conclusion, Sasuke-kun.” Yamato smiled at him, examining the scars on his wrists with an eyebrow raised. “Well, I won’t say I don’t believe you. You’re perfectly healthy physically, but these dreams are hurting your mental state.” Sasuke pulled his arms away, frowing as he tucked his hands into the large pocket of his sweater. “Tell me more about Naruto. I’m sure your brother has all ready asked.” Yamato started writing on his clipboard, scratching absently at the scruff on his chin. Sasuke sighed, “I’ve told you most of what I can remember.” “Are you sure you haven’t left anything out?” The man asked, fixing Sasuke with his ‘scary’ look. The raven fought the urge to roll his eyes. “Well, what’s he really like? I just know the stories about you two together at that gate. What’s his personality?” “I don’t want to talk about him anymore, Tenzou.” Sasuke whispered, rubbing his palms over his eyes. They were starting to sting from unshed tears. “Well, at least let me hypnotize you. That way, I can see your reaction to this strange person myself.” Yamato said confidently, setting his clipboard down and urging the raven to lie down on the long couch against the wall. “Now, Sasuke-kun, I want you to relax. Breahte deeply and evenly; think aboout Naruto and these dreams of yours.” “I don’t like this idea, Tenzou.” Sasuke muttered, closing his eyes to Yamato’s words. He thought about Naurto, how he wore his clothes, and the sound of his voice. His reaction was instantaneous, and almost obvious as a low moan slipped between his parted lips. “Naruto…” Sauke blinked his eyes, staring blearily up at a beige ceiling, feeling a warm weight on his left arm. It was a familiar weight, so he didn’t pull away. “Hn, dobe.” The raven grunted, shifting Naruto in his arms and leaning down to brush a chaste kiss acros his lips. “Wake up, naruto. We have to meet Hokage-sama for mission details.” Sasuke shook him a few times, frowinng when the blonde only groaned and burrowed deeper against him. “Sasuke, tell me what’s going on right now.” Yamato broke into his hazy dream, sounding like a God over his head or something, gentle but intense. “I’m trying to wake him up. We have to meet with Hokage-sama for missions.” “And he’s lying next to you?” “Yeah. I can’t feel my left arm. His head is heavy.” “Okay, then, keep going.” Naruto finally opened his eyes, grinning widely as he pulled Sasuke down for a longer meeting of lips. “Hey, bastard.” The blonde said affectionately, nuzzling a warm cheek against Sasuke’s bared shoulder. He wasted no time in pullling Naruto closer, his hand dipping below the blankets to squeeze a tanned globe of flesh. “Your mission is today.” Sasuke whispered quietly, taking Naruto’s lips in his and rolling them over until Naruto was straddling him. “Yeah, well-“ The dream cut off there, and Sasuke started screaming as he shoved his hand into Naruto’s chest, leaving the blonde hanging there like a useless doll. Yamato quickly counted to three and the raven woke up with a start, tears streaming down his cheeks. “I killed him.” Sasuke moaned. “Why did I kill him?” Yamato rubbed his back awkwardly, not knowing what to say to comfort the teen. He ended up calling Sasuke’s parents in, letting his father carry him out as Sasuke muttered Naruto’s name over and over again. *~* Mikoto pressed a washcloth to Sasuke’s forehead as he slept, her son whispering things in his sleep that concerned her. Itachi sat by the door, concerned for his little brother’s mental state. He would have to do something soon, even if he had to talk his mother into putting Sasuke into a mental home. ~TBC~While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
