Chapter 1
------------------------------------
A sunny blonde haired boy looked at the neon green light sign in the window of a small café. His cerulean blue eyes scanned over the neon green letters that read Leaf Café. He noticed a small help-wanted sign under the light sign. He sighed as he ran his tan hand through his spiky blonde hair as he looked over the lime green building. This was the last place on his list. This was his last hope for a job close to his apartment. He looked at his reflection in the window and began to straighten out his clothes and hair to try and look presentable. He really needed this job and didn’t want to be turned away just because he didn’t look nice. He took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
----------------------------------------------------------
Kakashi looked over at the door when he heard the bell ring, signaling that someone had entered his café. He smiled as he looked the boy over. The teen looked to be around nineteen or twenty with sunshine blonde hair, tan skin, three whisker like scars on each cheek, cerulean blue eyes, and a slim muscular build. Kakashi thought he looked absolutely adorable. The blonde boy was slender, almost girly like, but the muscle he had gave him enough to be boyish looking. All and all, the boy looked like a teen idol or some famous model.
Kakashi smiled as he noticed the boy looked a little nervous and raised his hand in greeting. “Yo, welcome to Leaf Café. I’m Hatake Kakashi, one of the owners of this place.” Naruto looked over at the man and smiled anxiously. The silver haired man was wearing a black long sleeve turtle neck with a pair of black loose-fitting jeans and black sandals. He had one dark colored eye and one red and a scar starting from mid forehead down through his left eye to his cheek. Naruto wondered how he got that scar, but didn’t want to ask. He waved his hand in greeting before walking over to the counter that the man was behind.
“Hi, I’m Uzumaki Naruto and I was hoping that if you still needed help that I could apply for the job.” Kakashi came out from behind the counter and looked Naruto up and down with a serious look on his face. The blonde was wearing a pair of loose fitting faded blue jeans and black short sleeved button up shirt with a white wife beater underneath with a silver chain necklace around his neck. Naruto swallowed hard, feeling scrutinizing eyes’ roam over him.
Kakashi noticed the boy was starting to sweat a little and decided to end his torment. He already decided to hire the tan teen as soon as he asked, but just wanted to make him fidget a little before saying so. He went back behind the counter and picked up a small white coffee mug and a white cloth to clean it with. Naruto watched as Kakashi began to clean the mug and nervously cleared his throat. “Umm, about the job?” Kakashi stopped cleaning the white mug and looked over into Naruto’s blue-eyes. He stared at the boy with a bored expression on his face for a few seconds before quickly smiling at him.
“You start tomorrow.” Naruto’s lips parted slightly as he stared at the silver haired man in shock. Kakashi put the mug back down on the counter as he tossed the cloth on the shelf behind him. He started to walk toward a door located behind the counter as he waved at Naruto to follow. Naruto nodded and walked behind the counter to follow him. “We will discuss everything in my office.” Naruto stopped in the doorway and looked at the man confusedly.
“If you’re in here, then who’s going to take care of customers that come in?” Kakashi sat down in a black leather chair behind a red oak desk. He opened the top drawer on the right of the desk and pulled out some papers. He laid the papers on the desk and looked over at Naruto.
“Iruka will be in any minute now. He’ll take care of things while we talk.” Naruto nodded as he walked over and sat down in a small wooden chair in front of Kakashi’s desk. He grabbed the papers and carefully read them over.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Iruka smiled as he pushed open the café door, but his smile faltered when he saw Kakashi wasn’t behind the counter. Which meant the pervert was neglecting the café so he could enjoy reading his porn. Iruka growled as he stomped his way over to the small office located behind the counter. He threw open the door and stomped over to Kakashi and slammed his hands down on the desk. “What the hell do you think your doing? You’re supposed to be taking care of customers.” Kakashi lazily looked at Iruka as he pointed to the blonde sitting in the chair in front of him. Iruka looked over in the direction the silver-haired man pointed and blushed in embarrassment. “Hello, I’m Umino Iruka and I’m the other owner of Leaf Café.” Naruto smiled brightly at the scarred man.
“I’m Uzumaki Naruto and I just got a job here.” Iruka smiled at the blonde and immediately knew why Kakashi had hired the boy. Kakashi maybe lazy, but he wouldn’t let just anyone work at the café. He had turned away everyone that had come in and asked about the job so far. He always had an excuse too. They were too ugly, to short, too tall, to fat, too skinny, too lazy, or he just didn’t like them. But he apparently likes Naruto and Iruka could see why.
The blue-eyed teen was absolutely adorable. He would bring in a lot of customers of either sex, because the boy has both feminine and masculine features. He was just so cute. Iruka couldn’t stop himself as he walked over hugged the blonde boy. Naruto didn’t know how to respond exactly, so he just patted the man on the back. Kakashi burst into a fit of laughter. He couldn’t help it, Naruto just looked at a loss at what to do while Iruka couldn’t stop squeezing the poor boy. Iruka released Naruto from the hug and looked at the boy in the eyes as he squealed like a fan girl.
“You’re so cute!” Naruto’s lips twitched upwards as he leaned back to try and get far away from the crazy man. Iruka grabbed Naruto’s wrist and pulled him out of the office. He brought him around front of the counter and pushed him onto a barstool. Iruka sat on the barstool next to him then screamed at Kakashi. “KAKASHI GET IN HERE AND MAKE US SOMETHING TO DRINK!” Naruto was a little scared of this man and apparently Kakashi was too, because the silver-haired male was behind the counter quickly.
“What would you like to drink?” Iruka smiled at him as he told Kakashi he’d like the usual then turned to look at Naruto and asked what he wanted. Naruto thought about it for a minute before he replied that he’ll have a glass of milk. Which afterwards he immediately got hugged again by Iruka who was cooing the entire time about how cute and adorable he was. Kakashi soon sat their drinks down in front of them which was the signal for Iruka to detach himself from Naruto. Naruto picked up his glass of milk and took a drink. Iruka grabbed his coffee mug and brought it to his lips and took a quick sip before putting it back down.
“Well Kakashi, I’m guessing you hired him because he’s so adorable that he’ll bring in lots of customers, male and female.” Kakashi smiled at Iruka as he nodded his head. Naruto put his now empty glass on the counter and looked at the two questioningly.
“You mean he hired me because of my looks?” Kakashi smiled at Naruto while Iruka nodded at him. “Wait a minute! Were all guys and you two think I look cute! Does that mean you’re . . . ”
“Gay?” Kakashi finished for him. Naruto nodded his head with a blank expression. Iruka smiled slightly as he looked at his coffee. Kakashi came out from behind the counter and wrapped his arms around Iruka. “Yes we are. And Iruka is my lover.” Naruto nodded his head and smiled brightly at the two. Iruka raised an eyebrow at the boys actions. Naruto noticed the look he was getting and waved his hands in the air.
“Oh don’t worry. I’m not a homophobe. I have nothing against homosexual relations. I was just worried that I might have guessed wrong, but then Kakashi made it clear that I didn’t so I was relieved. I’m happy for the two you.” Iruka and Kakashi stared at the boy as he turned to gaze at the empty glass. “You have someone that loves you. You’re not alone.” Iruka noticed the sad far off look in the teen’s eyes and couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong.
“What do you mean? Do you not have someone that loves you and is waiting for you?” Naruto shook his head.
“No.” Naruto closed his eyes as memories flashed through his mind. Kakashi and Iruka looked at the blonde worriedly. Naruto opened his eyes and smiled sadly. He noticed the worried looks he was receiving and knew that his mask had slipped. He quickly placed it back with a wide smile. Kakashi and Iruka smiled back, but they noticed the smile was fake. Iruka wanted to question the young boy about it, but the look he was getting from Kakashi told him not to pry, that the boy would open up when he’s ready.
The silence that settled around the three was disturbing and uncomfortable. After a few more moments of silence, Iruka decided to try and break it. “Are you here for college?” Naruto smiled happily, he was glad that someone had finally broke the silence.
“Yeah! I’m here for the art classes. I heard Konoha has the best art programs.” Kakashi nodded his head as he refilled Iruka’s mug.
“Yes they do.” Iruka smiled at his lover as a silent thank you before taking a sip of his coffee. Kakashi smiled a small smile back. Then he refilled Naruto’s glass. “So why are you interested in art?” Naruto said thanks to Kakashi and took a drink. He wiped his mouth off and smiled brightly.
“I love drawing and painting. I hope that I’m famous for my work one day, but I am really into making small stories with my drawing. I hope that maybe one day I could make a manga or maybe even children’s books.” Kakashi nodded his head in understanding as Iruka smiled happily.
“Do you like children?” Naruto looked at Iruka as if he had grown another head.
“Are you kidding? I love children!” Iruka turned in his chair to face the teen excitedly.
“Oh my god, really? So do I! I’m a kindergarten teacher at the local school.” Naruto’s eyes went wide.
“You are? Your so lucky! I love playing tag and hide seek with kids! Do you think maybe one day I could come by and play games with them?” Kakashi watched with a bored expression as Iruka squealed in excitement.
“As soon as school starts you can come by any time you want!” Naruto smiled and squealed happily.
“Thank you! I can’t wait!” Naruto rushed out of his chair and hugged the tan male tightly while saying thank you continuously. Iruka hugged him back happily as Kakashi rolled his eyes.
“You two are acting so girly.” Iruka and Naruto separated and glared at Kakashi.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto flopped down on his bed as a small happy smile spread across his face. He was able to get a job, and a good one at that. The owners, Kakashi and Iruka, were really nice. After Iruka and Naruto had gotten their point across that they were not girly, they had settled into a nice conversation about everything and anything. They talked about Naruto’s reason for college a little bit more after him and Iruka calmed down. He was majoring in art. He loved to draw and paint. He found it to be a way to relieve stress and clear his mind. He hoped that one day his work would be famous, but he didn’t know if that would happen.
He also thought about making a manga. But he wasn’t sure about it, he had so many of the characters designed and most of the story planned out, but it was missing something. He didn’t know what, but it was. His characters were based off him and the people around him. His friends mainly. As he thought about it an idea came to his head. He jumped off his bed and walked over to his desk and pulled his sketch pad out of the drawer. He grabbed his pencil and began to draw.
After thirty minutes and ten tries later, he was finished. He pulled his notebook out of the bottom drawer and added two names to the list and there purpose. He smiled as he looked over the names of Kakashi and Iruka. Those two would be perfect in his story, but it still felt like something was missing. He frowned as he put his notebook and sketch pad back in their drawers and walked over to turn off the overhead light. He needed to get to sleep so he could be up for work tomorrow and college would be starting soon, so he needed to get as much money saved up as possible. Naruto sighed as he walked over and laid down on his bed. He reached over and turned off the lamp on his night stand and let sleep over take him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto woke up to the sound of someone banging on his door. He slowly slid out of bed and trudged his way to the door. The thought that he just moved here and didn’t know any one didn’t cross his mind as reached for the door knob and slowly opened the door. With his eyes closed and a sleepy voice Naruto greeted the person at the door. “What do you want?” The person in hallway frowned.
"Is that anyway to treat a friend?” Naruto’s eyes shoot open when he heard the familiar rough voice of one of his best friends from back home.
“Gaara!” He stared at the red head’s smirking face for a moment before looking him over. Gaara was dressed in a fishnet long sleeved shirt with a pair of black cargo pants on and combat boots. Naruto noticed the red duffle bag in Gaara’s right hand and arched an eyebrow in silent question. Gaara noticed Naruto’s inquisitive look at his duffle bag.
“I’ve been looking for you since you left. I was worried about you and went to Jiraiya’s to see if you were there. But you had already left there and were heading here, so I followed.” Naruto laughed as he scratched the back of his head nervously.
“I’m fine. So you don’t need to worry.” Gaara easily saw through Naruto’s facade and pushed past him as he walked into Naruto’s apartment. Naruto glared at the back of his red haired friend and spoke sarcastically. “Come on in. Make yourself at home.” Gaara looked over his should at his blonde friend and smirked.
“I plan to.” Naruto’s mouth fell agape as he shut the door.
“WHAT! You can’t be serious. I don’t have room for you to stay here.” Gaara chuckled as he made his way to the couch in the small living room. “Don’t laugh at me damn it! I’m being serious!” Gaara dropped his duffle bag on the floor as he flopped down on the couch.
“So was I. I’m going to be attending the same college as you and I need a place to stay.” Naruto’s eyebrow twitched in irritation, he couldn’t afford to have his friend free load off him. He would enjoy the company and he didn’t want to throw his best friend out on the streets, but how was he supposed to be able to take care of both Gaara and himself while going to college and working one job. Naruto didn’t get a chance to voice his thoughts though, cause Gaara could already tell what he was thinking. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to be a free loader. I’m going to get a job. So I’ll pay my share of the bills and before you even think it, don’t worry I will be fine sleeping on the couch for a while.” Naruto looked thoughtful for a moment before he nodded his head, but then stared menacingly at his red haired friend.
“You can stay, but you have to obey my rules.” Gaara blinked a few times.
“And what are these rules?” Naruto grinned as he brought a hand up to scratch the back of his head.
“I haven’t made any yet.” Naruto laughed as Gaara grimaced from his friends obvious idiocy. But as he watched his friend laugh a small smile appeared on his face. Then he remembered something.
“Everyone’s worried about you. Sakura’s worried too.” Naruto stopped laughing and walked into the kitchen. Gaara silently watched as Naruto began to make a pot of coffee. He could see the hurt in his friends blue eyes. He knew then that he shouldn’t of said anything, but he wanted Naruto to know that everyone cared about him.
Naruto walked over and sat next to Gaara on the couch as he waited for his coffee to finish being made. Gaara grew tired of seeing the sad and lost look on his friends face and decided to talk about something else. “Where you working at?” Naruto blinked as Gaara’s voice broke him out of his memories of the past and smiled happily.
“I’m working at a small café not to far from here. The owners are nice and the pays ok.” Gaara nodded his head. “I’m supposed to start today. I have to be there at six.” Gaara raised an eyebrow at his friend. Naruto looked at him confusedly as he stood up and went to the kitchen to fix him a cup of coffee. Gaara continued to stare at his blonde friend as he made himself a cup of coffee. Naruto felt a vein in head throb in irritation. “WHAT?” Gaara shook his head as Naruto brought his coffee up to his mouth and replied in a bored tone.
“It’s five thirty.” Naruto spluttered as he choked on his coffee. Gaara watched with a small amused smile on is face. Naruto glared at his friend as he finally regained coherency.
“WHY THE HELL DIDN’T YOU TELL ME SOONER?” Gaara shrugged his shoulders. Naruto scowled as he ran into his bedroom to change for work. “Now I’m going to be late!” Gaara rolled his eyes.
“Not if you hurry.” Naruto scrambled about his room quickly putting on his clothes.
“BITE ME!” Gaara smirked and stood up when the blonde came out of his room. Naruto walked toward the door but stopped when he noticed Gaara following behind him.
“Where are you going?” Gaara walked past Naruto and out the door.
“I want to see where you work and then go find a job for myself.” Naruto locked the door to his apartment then walked over to the stairs and began to quickly descend them with Gaara right behind him. When they reached the bottom they took off running in the direction of the café.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto gasped for air as he came to a stop in front of the small café. Gaara stopped behind Naruto and looked over the small building as he tried to catch his breath.
“So this...is where....you work?” Naruto nodded his head as he wiped the sweat from his brow.
“This is it. How do I look?” Gaara watched as Naruto turned around.
“You look ok.” Naruto furrowed his brow and waved his arms about wildly.
“Ok! I look ok!” Gaara just stared blankly at his idiotic friend.
“Aren’t you late for work?” Naruto’s eyes widened and he quickly turned around.
“Damn it Gaara! You stupid raccoon! You’re the reason I’m late!” Naruto glared at him as he opened the door and walked in. Gaara smirked as he followed him in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kakashi looked over to the door when he heard the bell chime and saw a furious Naruto followed by what appeared to be a raccoon or was it a panda? Nope, not a panda or a raccoon. Another boy about the same age as Naruto. “Yo! You’re a little late Naruto on your first day.” Naruto dashed over to the counter and bowed.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to be, but my friend Gaara showed up this morning and needed a place to stay. I’m so sorry, it won’t happen again!” Kakashi looked over at the red head and looked him over. He smiled happily at the cute teen.
“I’m Hatake Kakashi. I’m Naruto’s boss. Do you need a job?” Naruto’s mouth fell agape as Gaara stared at the man curiously.
“Why?” Kakashi scratched his chin as if in deep thought.
“Well if you don’t want the job that’s fine. I can give it to some one else.” Gaara knew the man was toying with him, but decided to give in. But not the way Naruto would have, Naruto would panic and beg and plead for the job, but Gaara remained calm.
“I’ll take the job.” Kakashi smiled as he clapped his hands together.
“Good. Now if you’ll just follow me, we’ll get everything sorted out. Naruto, get behind the counter and be ready for customers. It’s almost time for them to start coming.” Gaara began to follow Kakashi but stopped when his cell phone started ringing. He pulled it out of his pocket and looked at the number. He frowned as answered his phone.
“Hello,” Naruto listened closely and could barely make out that the person Gaara was talking to was female. He couldn’t make out what was being said so he went about his business and smiled happily as the door opened and an elderly man came in.
“Good morning, welcome to Leaf Café!” The elderly man smiled as he walked over to the counter and sat on one of the bar stools.
“I’ll have my coffee black.” Naruto looked at the old man questioningly and hoped Kakashi would come over and help him. Gaara sighed as he listened to the other on the phone.
“What....No......No......I said NO!......Fine! Bye!” Gaara pocketed his phone and walked behind the counter. He noticed Naruto was having problems and decided to help him. He heard what the old man had said and quickly prepared him his coffee and sat the mug down in front of him. Naruto smiled in relief at Gaara
“Thanks.” Gaara shrugged his shoulders and was about to walk away when a thought hit him.
“Hey Naruto, you want to go with me tonight?” Naruto thought about it for a minute and shook his head.
“I don’t want to intrude on your date.” Gaara’s eyebrow twitched.
“I’m not going on a date. That was my sister, she’s making me go see her tonight and I don’t want to be stuck with her all night.” Naruto mouthed oh as he realized his mistake in jumping to conclusions.
“Sorry, my mistake. Yeah, I’ll go with you.” Gaara smirked as he turned around and walked into Kakashi’s office. Oh yes, he was going to put his sister through hell for making him go. The perfect way was to annoy her and the only person who can be extremely annoying is Naruto when he’s bored. And of course, since Naruto can’t sit still for long and has no interest in sports, he’ll get bored quickly and then Temari will get irritated and make them leave. Gaara’s plan was perfect. Nothing could go wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto looked around the gym as him and Gaara made their way through the people on the bleachers. He was pissed. He thought they were just meeting up with Gaara’s sister some where and eating or something. “What the hell are we doing here?” Gaara smirked as he continued to push people out his way.
“This is where were supposed to be.” Naruto glared at a group of guys that bumped into him as he continued to follow behind Gaara.
“Were at a basketball game! How is this where were supposed to be?” Gaara looked over his shoulder at the fuming blonde.
“My brother plays for the visiting team and my sister goes to all his games. So this is where were supposed to be.” Naruto crossed his arms over his chest as he pouted. Gaara looked around the bleachers until he spotted Temari waving at him from the bottom of the bleachers. He walked over to her and sat down beside her and gestured for Naruto to sit beside him. Naruto grumpily sat down next to him. Temari looked at the blue-eyed teen and then at her brother.
“Who’s that?” Naruto blinked as he looked over at the blonde woman and held out his hand.
“I’m Naruto. I’m Gaara’s friend.” Temari shook his hand and smiled.
“I’m Gaara’s sister Temari!” Naruto smiled at her and then looked at Gaara.
“Why haven’t you introduced me to your sister before?” Gaara stared impassively at him and then at the court below.
“The game’s going to start, so shut up and watch.” Naruto pouted as he turned his attention toward the floor. Temari giggled at the tan teen’s childishness. She knew the boy’s personality was what must of got her brother to make friends with him. Gaara was cold and uncaring to everyone when he was younger, but then one day he came home all bloodied and bruised. She had never seen him have a bruise or even a tiny scratch before and he would always be fighting. He would fight groups of people and still come out unharmed.
Temari was afraid of her little brother, but she wasn’t the only one. Kankuro and their father was terrified of him as well. Their mother died giving birth to him and their father hated him for it. In time it made him cruel and twisted, and that made them all fear him. Temari snapped out of her thoughts as she heard her brothers name announced. She stood up and yelled his name while waving.
Kankuro looked over at the stands when he heard his name and saw Temari with Gaara. He smiled and waved at them. His eyes lingered on his little brother for moment longer, seeing how much he changed in the time he was gone. The announcer then started to call out the names of the other players. He looked over at the over team, he smirked as he thought that it would be too easy to beat them.
Naruto watched distractedly as players ran out on the floor when their name and position was announced. He sighed as he started to move around in his seat for probably the hundredth time in five minutes. He looked over and noticed Gaara seemed to be fine with staring at the court just like Temari. He looked back over at the court as he heard all the people start yelling, but couldn’t see anything as a group of girls stopped in front of him and started to jump up and down excitedly. After a few minutes of trying to see around them the commotion dyed down and there was nothing to see.
Naruto frowned and stood up. He started walk away when Gaara stopped him.
“Where are you going?” Naruto looked at his friend pleadingly.
“I’m so bored, so I’m leaving.” Gaara grabbed Naruto’s wrist and yanked him back into his seat.
“The game just started.” Naruto sighed and looked out to the court. He looked over all the players, he followed the ball as it went from player to player. He watched as one of members of the sand team shot the ball. The ball bounced off the rim and many of the players jumped up to catch it. Naruto’s eyes widened when he saw a black haired man get the ball.
Naruto couldn’t take his eyes off him. The man was enchanting, with his raven black hair, pale skin, and muscular build. Naruto couldn’t tell what color his eyes were from how far away he was from the other, but he had never seen a man so handsome before. He thought his thoughts were a little weird, but decided it was ok for another guy to think another was good looking. Its not like he had a crush on him, he just thought he was handsome. He saw the number displayed on the front of the white jersey with red numbering and trim. “Number 01.” Naruto thought as a small smile appeared on his face.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second quarter ended and Gaara was stunned. Naruto hadn’t whined about being bored or fidgeted at all. He couldn’t believe it, but maybe Naruto was trying to actually act interested so that Gaara could spend more time with his siblings. Gaara snorted at the thought, Naruto doesn’t have the patience or the self control to do that. So why was he acting this way now, he had no clue, but maybe Naruto was just waiting for Gaara to say something about leaving. Or maybe Naruto actually was trying to be patient and polite during the only time Gaara actually wanted to leave. He couldn’t stand thinking about it anymore and thought maybe he was right and should ask.
“Naruto are you ready to leave?” Naruto looked over at his green-eyed friend and shook his head.
“No, I’m actually enjoying myself and you need to spend time with your family. So lets watch the rest of the game.” Naruto smiled at him before turning his attention back to floor as the half time buzzer sounded announcing its end as the players started to make there way to their positions. Gaara about fell over from his blue-eyed friends statement. He could see the boy wasn’t lying and that confused him. He sighed in defeat as he angrily made himself comfortable to watch the rest of the game.
Naruto’s eyes darted all over floor trying to keep up with number 01. He tried to read the name on the back of the shirt, but the player was always moving and never still long enough. The most he could make out was a U at the beginning and an A at the end. He didn’t know why he was sitting here watching this game still when he hated sports, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave. His body wouldn’t move and his eyes wouldn’t stop trying to keep up with teen. He couldn’t stop himself from watching if he wanted to.
For some reason he was captivated by the way the teen moved, the way his muscles glistened with sweat, the way his muscles would flex with every movement. Naruto grimaced at his thoughts, those weren’t normal thoughts. He mentally shook his head of such thoughts and decided it was because of everything that happened he was thinking like that, they say you think and act strangely when your heartbroken and try to find a way to rebound then later realize you made a mistake and feel foolish about it. Well Naruto knew he wasn’t gay, so his mind must of thought this was his way to rebound and make a mistake to take his mind off things. Well he wasn’t going to fall for it, nope.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto groaned as he stumbled into his apartment followed by a fuming Gaara. The entire way home Gaara was pissed off about something and Naruto couldn’t figure it out. He asked one time and got a smack to the back of the head for it. Naruto stumbled into his bedroom and started to remove his clothes as he made his way toward his bed. He slipped off his pants and crawled into bed, not caring about brushing his teeth tonight. He didn’t have the energy to do anything right now. He grabbed his clock from on top his night-stand and set the alarm.
He yawned as he put it back down and snuggled into his pillow. He heard Gaara shuffling around in the other room and sighed, knowing that Gaara probably wasn’t going to be asleep for a while he called out to him just loud enough for Gaara to hear him and not disturb the neighbors. “Goodnight Gaara!” He heard Gaara snort in reply as he drifted off to sleep.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naruto sleepily reached for his clock and turned off the alarm. He stretched as he sat up in bed then brought his legs over the side and stood up. He yawned as he gathered his clothes for work and walked to the bathroom. He dropped his clothes on the sink counter as he turned on the water for the shower.
Gaara heard Naruto turn on the shower and made his way to the kitchen. He knew Naruto was slow at getting around in the mornings and decided to make breakfast. Gaara doesn’t really sleep much, so he had gotten ready for work hours ago. He opened the fridge and frowned. There was nothing in there except milk and cheese. Gaara wondered how the boy survived before when he lived on his own. Then he remembered how, ramen. The tan teen was always eating instant ramen. Gaara grimaced but made his way over to the cabinets. He opened one and there it was. Instant ramen of different kinds. He rolled his eyes as he grabbed two of the chicken and shut the cabinet.
Naruto stepped out the bathroom ready for work as he headed toward the kitchen. His eyes widened as he saw the cup of instant chicken ramen waiting for him on the table to be eaten. He looked around and noticed Gaara was eating one as well and smiled at him as he walked over and picked his up. “Thanks Gaara.” Gaara nodded his head as he finished the last of his.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kakashi smiled as he read the front page of the newspaper. He looked over at the pale teen sitting at one of small tables. “I see your team won the traditional game and they even got a good picture of you for the front page.” The pale youth grunted as he finished his espresso. Kakashi smiled as he went back to reading. “Oh, I have two new employees. Please be nice to them.” The pale youth didn’t respond as he stared out the window.
Kakashi was about to say more when the door chime sounded and his new employees walked in. He smiled at them. “Yo! Gaara you work the counter and make the coffee. Naruto you’re the waiter.” Naruto and Gaara nodded their heads. Gaara walked behind the counter and Kakashi gave him the menu of what they had for him to get to know before handing Naruto a pen and pad along with an apron to put sugar packets and stuff in and a menu as well. Naruto tied the apron and looked over the menu.
The pale youth brought his coffee cup to his lips before he remembered it was empty. “Hey waiter!” Naruto put the menu in his apron pocket and smiled as he looked over to where the man’s voice came from and froze. It was the ball player from last night, number 01. He swallowed nervously and placed the happy smile back on his face as he walked over to the raven-haired teen. He grabbed his pen and pad from his apron and tried to keep his voice cracking.
“Hello, my name’s Naruto and I’ll be your waiter. What can I get for you?” The pale teen didn’t even turn to look at him as he responded monotonously.
“An espresso and tell Kakashi to make it.” Naruto continued to smile as he wrote it down.
“Anything else?” The teen still didn’t turn to look at him.
“No.” Naruto shivered from the coldness in the boys tone.
“Ok then, I’ll be right back.” Naruto walked over to the counter and handed Kakashi the pad. Kakashi raised an eyebrow at him. Naruto pointed over to the pale teen as he spoke.
“He said he wanted you to make it.” Kakashi nodded and handed Naruto back the pad.
“Naruto, just rip the paper out and hand it to Gaara, he’ll take it and write down the amount owed on it then give it back to you to give to the customer. Don’t hand the entire pad over.” Naruto smiled sheepishly as he ripped the paper out and gave it to Gaara. Gaara took it and figured up the amount before handing it back to Naruto. Kakashi handed Naruto the espresso right after. Naruto turned around and felt nervous again. He walked uneasily over to the dark haired male.
Kakashi and Gaara watched Naruto curiously. They both noticed that he was trembling a little. Gaara frowned as he looked at the customer Naruto was heading toward, he looked familiar but he couldn’t quite place why he looked familiar. Kakashi was amused by Naruto’s new behavior, he had seen the tan teen look nervous, but not this nervous. Naruto was at the table and starting to put the espresso down when the door opened and Iruka happily announced his arrival which scared the already on edge Naruto.
“Good morning everyone! Did you see the paper? We won the traditional game.” Iruka noticed no one paying attention to him and followed their gazes to see Naruto looking like he’d seen a ghost.
When Naruto heard Iruka burst in happily it scared him and he accidently spilt the espresso all over the raven-haired teens white long sleeve shirt. The pale teen stared down at his stained shirt angrily as Naruto tried to stutter out an apology. Gaara looked like he was ready to defend Naruto if the other tried anything but Kakashi put his hand on his shoulder and shook his head causing Gaara to clench his fists in frustration. Naruto grabbed some napkins from his apron and tried to help soak some of the espresso out of the white shirt while still stuttering.
“I’m s-s-s-or-r-ry. Let me h-h-help.” The pale teen was pissed. He couldn’t believe this idiot. He growled as he looked at the other for the first time. Angry coal black eyes met fearful and apologetic cerulean blue eyes. Naruto felt his breath catch in his throat as he saw the others eyes for the first time. They were so dark, like ink pools. The pale teen noticed the fear and apologetic look in the others eyes and smirked.
“You’re a clumsy idiot, dobe.” Naruto eyes widened in shock at the others words. How could he be so mean. He apologized and is trying to help clean him up a bit. The least the man could do was accept his apology, not call him names. The raven loved the way the emotions were so easily displayed on the others face and eyes. His smirk grew bigger as he stared at the blue-eyed boy. Iruka walked over to Kakashi and whispered to him to stop this before something bad happens. Kakashi was enjoying the show, but he knew his lover was right. He could feel that something bad was about to happen too.
“I’m sorry Sasuke, he’s new. Please forgive him and don’t worry about the bill. In fact, you don’t have to pay for the rest of the month.” Sasuke continued to stare into Naruto’s blue eyes as he smirked knowingly.
“Fine, but next time I won’t be so nice.” Naruto felt like punching the smirk off the bastards face as he watched the raven stand up. Sasuke pushed Naruto out the way as he walked over to the door and opened it. He looked over at Naruto and smirked. “Later dobe.” Sasuke then walked out the door and down the sidewalk. Five minutes after Sasuke left Naruto yelled the word bastard angrily. Gaara sweat-dropped at his friends delayed reaction. Naruto grabbed a few napkins and began to clean up the spilt espresso off the table, seat, and floor.
“Who the hell does that guy think he is!” Naruto wiped up the spilt espresso furiously as Kakashi grabbed the newspaper and headed toward him, ignoring Iruka’s advice about just letting him be and don’t make things worse. Kakashi dropped the newspaper on a dry spot on the table. Naruto picked it up and started to read it when he noticed the picture on the front page. He scowled as he read it. “So what! The bastard’s the captain of Konoha’s basketball team.” Kakashi sighed as he looked over the blonde’s shoulder and pointed to a name. Naruto furrowed his brow as he read the name. “Uchiha Sasuke, that sounds familiar.” Gaara’s body tensed up when he heard the name, but quickly composed himself. Kakashi felt like beating his head into wall, but instead he decided to tell the blonde why the name sounded familiar.
“Uchiha Sasuke is the youngest son of Uchiha Fugaku, the owner of the famous Uchiha and Sharingan Companies.” Naruto looked confusedly at Kakashi for moment before realization dawned on him.
“Oh yeah, I’ve heard of them, but that doesn’t mean I should kiss the ground he walks on.” Gaara looked over at Naruto sternly.
“Naruto don’t start pissing the Uchiha off.” Naruto glared at Gaara.
“Why not? The bastard thinks he’s better than everybody else.” Gaara glared right back as he stared into Naruto’s blue-eyes.
“I just don’t want anything to happen to you. I’ve heard rumors about the Uchiha’s.” Naruto quirked an eyebrow at this information.
“What rumors? Oh you mean the rumors about them owning a continent or something right?” Gaara’s expression went blank as he spoke.
“That’s not the rumor I was referring to. I mean the one about them being part of the mafia and they pull the strings behind the government, so if they wanted they could kill you and cover it up. I’m not sure if any of the rumors are true, but just don’t do anything stupid.” Naruto nodded his head as he rolled his eyes.
“I won’t do anything stupid, but I’m not letting the bastard walk all over me. Besides those are just rumors, I doubt any of them are true.” Kakashi noticed Iruka was nervously fidgeting and walked over to him. He smiled at the brown haired man as he embraced him then looked over toward the green eyed boy.
“Naruto’s right, those are just rumors. So don’t worry so much.” Gaara looked down at the counter in deep thought. Maybe he was overreacting. It’s just rumors, and most rumors are wrong. He nodded his head in agreement.
“Your right. It’s just a bunch of silly rumors.” Naruto smiled at Gaara before going back to cleaning up the mess. Iruka followed Kakashi into the office and shut the door as Gaara started to clean some of the cups. He sighed as he placed one of the now clean coffee cups down. “It’s ok, don’t worry, their just rumors. Besides Naruto won’t do anything stupid. Right?”
