What’s Real
The sound of hate filled taunting voices followed
him as his heart raced and he ran through the darkened…alley? Yes it is an
alley, I just hope that it does not dead end. He thought as he ran. Ran
from the taunting, ran from the hatred, ran from his life and himself.
“You should just die and put yourself out of your
misery.” A voice calmly told him from his shoulder.
“You should do the right thing and die.” Another
voice said from in front of him.
Soon a chorus of calm hate filled voices had surrounded
him. How did they catch me? How did they get me here in this awful place? He
was surrounded and he knew that there was no escape. He knew that the torture
was coming and he knew how it would end.
The first brick clipped him on the shoulder, the
next was aimed at his knee.
Whatever I do I can’t go down. If they get me on
the ground they will kill me. They will beat me to death. Fear thrilled
through him like nothing he had ever experienced. He could feel his heart
racing and the impact of a large stone or brick to the back of his head brought
dark spots to his vision.
I will live through this as long as I don’t let
them get me…
The flash of white across his face punctuated by the
loud crashing, shattering sound brought a slowing to the beat of his heart, and
darkness to his vision. He fell back in slow motion watching in awe as the
slivers of glass that fluttered in the air around him caught and reflected the
light and sparkled in small brilliant prisms.
The beauty of the destruction tinted with the red of blood was like a
concert of light and pain to be witnessed on the road to oblivion. Hearing his
heart slow he knew that his end would be the crescendo in this exquisite
concert of torture.
I am going to die a painful horrible death,
he thought just as his eyes were about to close…
Sitting bolt upright in the darkness Naruto
shuddered at the nightmare that had so often haunted him over the past five
years. Fighting off the dream, and the memory of the events that caused the
dream he pulled himself from his sweat soaked sheets.
“There is no way I will get back to sleep after
that.” He said rubbing his whisker-scarred cheeks. So often after that dream as
after that night his cheeks ached. He could swear that there were some whisper
thin slivers of glass still in his face, though he knew that not to be true.
Shaking
himself from head to foot Naruto reached for the clothes he had dropped at the
foot of the bed and pulled them on. Deciding to go for a walk at 3am on a
Tuesday morning was nothing new to him. Nightmares drove him out of his bed and
his small apartment more often than not. The only time he would sleep a whole
night was when exhaustion forced him into a deep coma like sleep.
“I wish I had… some…one.” He sighed sadly as he
grabbed his keys off the small table beside his door. “Then I wouldn’t be so…
pathetic.” He stifled his sob as he turned and quickly walked out his door.
The night air was cool and refreshing. There was
nothing like the feel of the night. Walking under the moon in autumn made
something inside Naruto feel powerful and full of energy. He imagined that he
could breath out his sadness and loneliness into the night, and the moon would
carry it away to oblivion.
Looking up as he walked through a small neighborhood
park Naruto thought he heard ragged breathing. The sound of someone forcing
themselves to breathe, fighting to live shattered the cool calmness he had
build around him. Franticly looking around and not seeing anyone Naruto walked
toward the cluster of bushes to his right.
Tripping over something at the edge of the bush
Naruto landed on his knees face to a pair of black leather shoes. Quickly
turning knowing that he was in a vulnerable position low to the ground like
that Naruto looked around for the people that had done this. Noticing movement
down the street, he grabbed the feet and crawled into the bushes folding the
long body into his arms and desperately trying to readjust the form so that the
sound of his struggle to breathe would not carry.
“I know I got him.” A serpentine voice called.
“There was blood on the sidewalk, but he had to have come into this park for
the trail to have ended so suddenly.”
“But did you see any indication that he came this
way?” A sharp female voice cut the night air sending a shiver down Naruto’s
spine. “You say he had to come here but the blood trail we followed came no
where near this park.”
“I am telling you that he should be here.” The male
voice said angrily. “I …”
“You let him get away and I am not going to follow
any more of your wild goose chases. If he was bleeding that badly the blood
trail would have lead us to this park or at the very least the edge of the
grass if he were here.”
“Listen…” The man began menacingly.
“Know that your words could very well determine your
future.” The woman’s voice had turned to freezing stone, “Or lack there of.”
Grunting the man turned and they quietly walked from
the park, turning to shadows as they reached the rim of the grass.
Naruto lay in the bush holding the long form to him
cradling the man in his arms. Please don’t let them come back He thought
his heart beating furiously. The ground was a hard place to escape from, he
knew from personal experience, and with one of them unconscious… We would
never escape.
After an hour of waiting and another fifteen minutes
of gathering his courage Naruto pulled himself from the bush and then gently
slowly pulled the unconscious man out of the bush and into a wobbly side arm
carry. Walking as fast as he could awkwardly carrying someone taller than
himself and taking many unnecessary turns and twists Naruto brought the still
form into his apartment and dropped the man on his couch face down.
During their walk back to his apartment Naruto had
felt moisture on his right arm. The slight dampness under the black jacket had
quickly turned into a dripping wetness. By the time they got to his building
Naruto was thanking God for the ugly stained carpet in his building. No one
would notice a little more blood, if anyone even saw it under the filth.
Going to his bathroom to find his first aid kit,
Naruto came from the bathroom and cut the jacket and shirt from the man’s back.
Noticing that there was what looked like a bullet wound on the man’s left
shoulder Naruto cleaned it as best he could and dug the slug out with a pair of
tweezers. He then cleaned the fresh blood away and sewed the small hole and
tare closed when he was satisfied that his stitching was small enough not to
damage the pale skin he put a clean gauze patch over it and looking at the
clock covered his guest with the blanket from his bed and dressed for work.
Looking back at the long form
crumpled onto his couch Naruto thought to himself. I hope you are the
something good that I have been praying for all my life. Sighing as he
rushed out of his apartment to the job that barely paid his bills but made him
feel like little more than an indentured servant.
The day was a long slow torture. Not that this day
went any slower than any other day in market research hell, and not that he
worked any more hours than normal. No that was not what made Naruto jump from
his desk and rush past his coworkers to the time clock, what made him move so
much faster today was the excitement, the thought that today when he got home
there would be someone there.
The bus ride was slow the driver apparently ahead of
schedule waited for every light to turn red at least once. There were no seats
and Naruto fought not to be pressed against someone that had a smell that was
an interesting mix of homelessness and he didn’t know what, but he was sure
that if he stayed in close contact with it he would greet his guest with a
smell that would not help his condition.
Stopping at the grocery store down the block Naruto
brought several bowl ramen packages and juice and quickly went to his building.
When he reached his apartment door he hesitated. What am I doing? Why am I
so frantic? What if he’s gone?
The thought that the man might be gone brought a
lump to his throat. Dread and loneliness settled into his core and dejectedly
he opened his door, afraid that the stranger would be gone but nursing the
frailest hope that he would still be there.
His quick glance around his apartment told him that
the only thing he had that he reasoned was worth stealing, his game system, was
still there. The pale stranger however…
“Why have you brought me here?” A deep seductive
voice said from the short hall that led to the bathroom and his bedroom.
Excitement, happiness that he could barely contain
built inside Naruto as he slowly turned to look at the tall pale form that skewered
him with the darkest eyes he had ever seen. It took him what seemed like an
eternity, but what couldn’t have been more than five heartbeats, to pull his
eyes from the man’s face.
He is the most bea… The sight of the large
black gun pointed directly at him derailed his train of thought. “What is
that?” He asked in a childlike voice. “You’re not supposed to have that.”
Naruto was afraid of the man now and a little afraid
for him. He was sure that the man should be in pain the shot to his shoulder
that Naruto had dug out the night before should be sending jolts of pain
through his left side and arm, but his left hand that held the gun was steady.
“Why are you pointing a gun at me?” Naruto asked
trying not to sound as scared as he was. “I spent my next week’s bus fair on
food for you.” He whispered looking down at the bags in his hand.
“You’re afraid and you should be.” The slender
muscled stranger told him in his deep seductive voice. “Why did you bring me
here?”
“I was walking last night,” Naruto said leaving out
the fact that it was a nightmare brought on by fear and loneliness that had
driven him out into the night. “I walked through the park and I heard you
breathing. I saw that you were hurt and I brought you home.”
“Why did you bring me here” Something in that voice
sent chills down Naruto’s spine.
“I didn’t want them to get you.” Naruto said softly,
like they got me, he added to himself.
“Who?”
“The lady and the man that came after you when we
hid in the bushes.” Naruto said.
“You are trying to tell me that hiding in bushes in
the park kept them from finding us?” The man snorted. “Hn”
“No” Naruto sighed shaking his head and looking at
the most beautiful person on earth once again. “The woman kept them from
finding us.” Avoiding those black holes in the man’s face that he wore for eyes
Naruto angrily said, “She told the man with the snake voice that it was his
fault that they hadn’t caught you and that the trail of blood that they
followed came no where near the park. After he protested she threatened him and
they left. I kept us hidden for about another hour then I brought you here.”
As he looked at the man Naruto noticed the dark
circles under his eyes and wondered if the man was cold with no shirt on. He
kept his heat off during the day and had not remembered to turn it on for his
guest. He was sure that his friend needed to eat and most likely some pain
medicine.
He is so beautiful and perfect. Naruto
thought. Looking at the man his countenance dropped, looking down at himself he
felt sad and ashamed. He is an important person, a real person that would be
missed if something happened to him. He is nothing like me. I did a good thing,
saving him, but I can’t keep him. Someone like that would never want someone
like me in their life.
The man watched the tan blonde before him and
wondered what had happened to change his mood so quickly. First he had looked
innocent and childlike and then, again like a child he had pouted, but now he
just looked sad, so very sand.
“What is wrong with you?”
“Nothing,” Naruto said shaking his head. “I brought
food, and I think you should eat. The woman mentioned drugging you and I know
that your shoulder should be hurting. I could give you something for the pain,
after you eat.”
Walking to the kitchen Naruto made two bowls of
ramen and heated the chicken he had portioned for his dinner for the rest of
the week. He would let his friend get full, not just eat enough to keep hunger
from giving him a headache like he did.
When the food was ready Naruto came into his living
room to see the man had not moved. “Here, he said placing the bowl of chicken
ramen and plate of chicken on the table. Smiling he turned to the man and said.
“It is really good, it’s ramen, my favorite. I decided that sense I had a
friend over it should be something fancy.”
“Hn” The man said making the huge gun disappear he
came to the couch and looked down at the shorter blonde. “Who fixed my
shoulder? And how did you get me here?”
“I carried you.” Naruto said as if that had been the
stupidest question in the world. “And who do you think fixed your shoulder
bastard? There’s no one here but us.”
With a quickness and strength that denied the bullet
Naruto was sure that he had pulled from the man’s shoulder the night before he
was grabbed by the collar and thrown into the wall with a loud crash. In an
instant the man had his hands wrapped tightly around his throat holding him off
the floor against the wall.
“You are not much of a man, I am thinking you are
about what 5’9 at the most. You aren’t carrying around any body fat, there is a
little muscle here enough to make you pretty, but I’m not guessing very strong.
How did you carry me from the park without being caught or followed? How do you
know how to treat bullet wounds? I saw your emergency kit it is very well stocked,
Naruto.”
His air supply left and his lungs began to burn as
the realization that the stranger had gone through everything he owned. If he
had then he knew… letting his shoulders slump in defeat Naruto gave the man
better access to his throat. He knew his secret. Maybe he would get to die by
the hands of the most beautiful person in the world. It was more than he had
ever hoped for. Closing his eyes Naruto accepted his fate.
He is going to let me kill him Sasuke
realized as he saw the acceptance and resignation in the young man’s body and
eyes. And as those eyes like a clear morning sky slid closed, he saw
relief. Dropping the body to the floor
Sasuke went to the couch and after turning his nose up at the food sat down and
began to eat.
Naruto took a few moments to realize the man would
not kill him. Looking at the beautiful shirtless man for he wondered why.
Through all that had happened to him Naruto had not once stopped to wonder who
the people were that had tried to kill his beautiful friend. He didn’t care to
know. He had lived through… whatever his friend had done, whoever was after
him, Naruto would help him, if he were allowed to.
Standing slowly Naruto went to his room and dug out
his best shirt and sweater and brought them out to his friend. He was sure the
arms would be too short but the Sweater had come from a resale shop and was
much to big for him. He couldn’t pass on the quality of it, but had never worn
it due to the size.
“You need a shirt.” He said softly noticing that his
friend had finished eating. “I keep the heat low so the bill won’t get out of
hand. I will turn it up for you. Do you want a painkiller?”
“If you are telling the truth,” The seductive voice
began slowly. “About helping me, and not knowing anything about what is going
on. You are a fool, an innocent fool. But I will return the favor.” Taking the
shirt from the trembling tan hand as he stood the beautiful raven-haired man
stood and turned fully to the smaller blonde. “Be ready to leave here in 30
minutes.”
“Why” Naruto cried. “This place is safe.” Naruto
didn’t want to leave his home. The building was a slum so no one had noticed or
cared that he had a steel reinforced door installed in front and in the back.
No one noticed him or bothered him here. He could live beneath the notice of
the real people of the world here. “This is safe. This is the only place I have
ever felt safe.”
The tears in his eyes stunned the raven-haired man
for a second. He had never seen such sincere emotion from anyone over the age
of 5.
“I am your safe haven now.” Sasuke said. “If I leave
you here you will die.” Turning away he said, “Go get ready now.”
The command in the pale beauty’s voice left no room
for emotion or argument. Naruto wondered what he should bring and if there were
a chance of him coming back. Changing into black sweat pants and a black
t-shirt with matching black hoodie Naruto came into the living room. Looking to
the table he smiled when he noticed that his friend had eaten all the food on
the table.
“Why were you out last night alone?” The man said
calmly his face and voice held no emotion, they were both cold and impersonal.
The only thing Naruto could read in the seductive voice was that when he spoke
he expected everyone to take heed and when he gave an instruction he expected
it to be followed. He had the voice of a commander, and the presence of a god.
“I had a bad dream.” Naruto said cheeks flaming as
he studied his wall. “I couldn’t sleep and I didn’t want to sit in here in the
cold darkness so I went outside.”
“Why did you help me?”
“Because” Naruto said in a shuddering breath. “No
one helped me.”
Nodding Sasuke made up his mind. Though there was a
part of him that screamed that he should kill the blonde. That he was innocent
and good and that the best place for him would be in heaven. Or because he
honestly didn’t believe there was a heaven because if there was a heaven then
that would mean there was a God and if there were a God he would have done
something about Sasuke long ago. He should at least put the blonde out of his
misery by taking him away from all the evil people that had and would continue
to hurt him. He would take the blonde idiot with him, he was obviously an idiot
for putting himself in this situation, and he would plan out his next move.
“How are we going to leave here?” Naruto asked. He
had become one of the anonymous many that lived in this neighborhood and liked
that he was no one is a sea of nobodies. Leaving the comfort of his safe haven
was something that troubled him. “I was thinking I should call us a livery.”
“The people that were after me would know if you
call a cab.” Sasuke said looking around the apartment for a black backpack he
had seen earlier. “We will have to go on foot for a while.” Finding the bag
Sasuke went to the kitchen and filled the bag halfway with bottled water a few
juices peanut butter and jelly and shaking his head he grabbed the half loaf of
bread from the top of the fridge. He then went to the bathroom and got the
first aid kit and the emergency medical kit that were under the sink. Putting
the bread on top he closed the bag. “Are you ready?”
“Y-yes” innocent eyes looked up at him hesitantly.
“Lets go” turning he walked to the door. He noticed
that the blonde made sure to turn off all the lights and grabbing his keys he
stopped and checked the lock on the door twice before he was satisfied. Nodding
he silently turned to follow Sasuke out of the building.
Having gone through everything the blonde owned had
given him a lot of insight in to the man and his life. He knew that the blonde
worked for a small medical market research company in the call center. He was
one of those people that call and ask you to do surveys over the phone. He knew
that the blonde made a disgustingly small wage and had been emancipated from an
orphanage at an early age. There was an envelope on the top shelf of the
bedroom closet that Sasuke had to climb onto a chair to reach it that also
detailed that in the small town the blonde was from he had been the victim of
various violent crimes, the police reports often wrote off the beatings and
abuse the young man suffered from age 14- 20 as boys being boys or children’s
pranks but the medical reports that were attached to each of the police reports
detailed beatings and torture that could only be described as heinous.
From the information he found the last attack had
been the worst. Naruto had been beaten almost to death and hit repeatedly in
the face with halogen light bulbs. Because the bulbs broke easily across his
cheeks they did not do any reconstructive surgery, but the Doctor had taken
weeks of time and effort to make sure that none of the paper thin slivers of
glass remained in the young man’s face. Because his face had been mutilated so
badly in an effort to keep the scaring down the doctor had pulled and shaped
the skin on the boy’s cheeks and given him the look of having whiskers.
The pictures were horrible, the stance the police
department of the town took was even worse. They suggested to the town mayor
and city council that the boy now a young man, be asked to leave the town. His
incidents and youthful raillery were detrimental to the town. They did not want
to be known as a town where that type of thing happened. The town had quietly
before the stitches on his face had even healed bought him a bus ticket given
him $2000 and sent him away.
Sasuke walked out of the building that the boy, odd
how he had been sent away from his hometown two days after his 21st
birthday and had been living in the city for 5 years and Sasuke thought of him
as a boy. There were about the same age Sasuke was only a month or so older,
lived in and noted that though there were several young men standing in front
of the building no one made eye contact purposely showing that they saw
nothing. He was so close to the mansion that he had been pretending was his
home for the past few weeks, and yet so far.
Sasuke chuckled to himself how the climate of a
neighborhood could change so drastically in the big city.
Naruto said nothing making sure not to look the men
in front of the building in the eye. They had never hurt him in any way but he
knew that they were capable of vicious violence. Walking at a steady pace
behind the tall slender man Naruto focused on not being a problem and keeping
up with the pace that was set.
They walked almost all night. Naruto noticed quietly
how the neighborhoods changed going from slums to middle class to affluent to
industrial and back again. The man walked as if he could walk across the
country and Naruto decided that if that beautiful bastard could then he could
too. Eventually the sound of birds singing their early morning song told Naruto
that the sun would soon peak over the horizon. The man pulled him against a
shadowed wall in an abandoned looking industrial area. Naruto stood against the
wall as quietly as he could taking instruction from the look in the man’s eyes.
He saw the man walk a few steps and then digging quickly in the dirt he pulled
something out of the ground and walked away.
He wouldn’t leave me here would he? Naruto
wondered as he saw the slender form disappear around a corner. No He
wouldn’t leave me. Why would he? He is my friend, the first one I have ever had.
Pressing himself against the wall Naruto felt a sinking feeling in his stomach
and a light scraping sound pulled his attention to something moving in the
shadows to his right. Before he could focus on whatever it was a sound on his
left caught his attention.
It’s the man and the woman from last night he
thought terrified. They have come to get my friend. Maybe I should make a lot
of noise so he will know not to come this way. But he wanted me to be quiet
he thought. What should I do? Trying to focus on the shadows at his
sides he didn’t notice the man in front of him until something slammed into the
right side of his head.
I can’t go down. He mind screamed as black
dots swam through his vision. Lifting his fists preparing to defend himself
from the threat in front of him, Naruto forgot about the two on his sides until
it was two late. Fists rained down from all directions except behind and soon
he was staggered against the wall. Though he fought back, quite well, being
backed up to a wall by three much larger men seemed to be his downfall.
I saved his beautiful life and he brought me here
to die. Naruto thought sadly as he brought his arm up to block a blow
trying for his head. I don’t even know his name.
The forceful push forward as the man in front of him
fell limply onto Naruto pulled his sluggish mind from its silent contemplation.
The wetness on his hands confused him for the brief moment it took to get
himself free of the three bodies that fell onto him and seemed to be leaking on
his clothes.
“Damn it idiot.” Naruto heard the silky voice curse
just as he was forcefully pulled forward and shoved into a black sedan. The
door slammed behind him and in an instant the other man was in the car and
cursing violently as they drove away.
“How in the fuck, Seriously, how in the Mother Fuck
do you get into these situations?” Sasuke seethed from the driver side of the
car. His face still emotionless, but he was sure that he felt a twitching in
his eye. “You are fucking prey.”
“I’m sorry.” Naruto said softly looking out the
window. “Maybe I breathed to loud or something.” He came back for me, and he
saved me. “It won’t happen again.”
The rest of the painfully long car ride was spent in
near silence. Though the car was rather new and had a CD player and radio
neither were turned on. Their only stops were for gas. Naruto watched as the
country rolled past them and he looked in awe at the beauty of the land they
traveled.
Hearing the soft exclamation from the smaller man
beside him warmed Sasuke somewhat. Naruto was looking out the window with
barely contained childlike excitement. Something told Sasuke that he was dieing
to talk, but was afraid to, because he knew that Sasuke preferred the silence
that, with Naruto did not feel uncomfortable or strained. Looking at the back
of Naruto’s golden head and remembering his sky colored eyes Sasuke was glad he
had him. He was a breath of fresh air. When Naruto turned to look questioningly
at him Sasuke couldn’t help his sudden change in mood. The site of the deep
purple bruise on the right side of the blonde’s face made his blood boil. His
lip was swollen as well and there was a small cut under his left eye, which was
sporting a shiner at the moment as well.
“I didn’t even do anything.” Naruto said loudly.
“What the fuck is it bastard? Why so angry? I have been quiet and everything
and still you can’t just sit back and enjoy the ride.” And that began Naruto’s
talking. For the remaining five hours in the car Naruto either cursed Sasuke
for his foul mood, or exclaimed excitedly at some of the most mundane things.
When Sasuke pulled the car into a barely drivable
wooded area and then parked in what looked like a shed Naruto turned to him.
The look Sasuke shot him stopped the question before he could ask it.
“We have a long walk ahead of us dobe.” He said.
“Keep up or you will get lost and most likely die. I will not search the woods
for you day or night.”
Nodding to each other they got out of the car and
started walking. Naruto instantly noticed how cold it was outside. The
raven-haired man had on a thermal jacket, Naruto reasoned must have been in the
car. Naruto had on a cheap sweatshirt. Soon walking through the woods in
pitch-black darkness at a time that he was sure that if there were light he
would be able to see his breath became another form of torture. He counted the
pains coming from his side and face. He thought about how warm it was in the
car, in his bed, hell in the shitty office he worked in. He worked in…. oh God
he hadn’t gone to work, no call… no show… no job. Thinking about the job that
he had just lost and the rent that would be due soon Naruto walked behind the
beautiful stranger in desolate despair. He was going to be homeless.
After walking well into the night Sasuke brought
them to the small cabin that was his cooling down spot. No one knew about this
place, it was in the middle of nowhere, the only comfort it had was running
water in the sink of the ½ bath and a flushing toilet. No electricity, no
telephone and no neighbors. The cabin was surrounded by trees so dense it
almost looked like a little wooden box and the door was small so after opening
it he had to bend slightly forward to enter.
Naruto had never been so happy to be inside of
anything in his life. He was depressed and he was freezing to death. The taller
man had to bend to walk through the door but walked erect inside the small
one-room cabin lighting oil lanterns. There was a huge bed against the rear
wall of the cabin and a small door three steps to the right of the bed. Naruto
stood just inside the cabin with his back to the closed door there was a small
window on each side of the door that was covered with what looked like a quilt
that had been made into curtains. Closer to the front door on the right side of
the cabin there was a large fireplace.
“Are you ok?” Sasuke asked as he lit a fire adding
more light and soon heat to the cold cabin. When he noticed that the blonde
idiot didn’t answer he looked up and saw that he was shivering and his lips had
a blue tint to them.
“May I please lay in your bed?” Naruto asked his
voice barely heard above the crackling of the flames.
Standing Sasuke walked across the room and grabbed
both the smaller man’s hands. “What the fuck? You are freezing.”
“Can I lay in your bed, under the cover, please?”
Naruto’s blue eyes seemed to glow as they looked up at Sasuke.
“Are you retarded? Did blunt trauma to the head
damage your brain?” Sasuke asked.
“No, May I …”
“Naruto I am going to get more wood. Take off those
clothes and get in the bed.” Sasuke said angrily.
“I walked all night, with no food even though you
ate my dinner and I had no coat. I didn’t complain and I kept up. Why are you
angry with me for…”
“I want you to get in the bed now idiot. Don’t talk,
the sound of your voice right now might make me kill you.”
Naruto went to the bed pulling off his shoes pants
and sweatshirt he folded back the cover and crawled into the bed sighing as the
cool flannel sheets quickly warmed, curling his body in on itself Naruto tried
to wiggle his toes and fingers to make sure they weren’t damaged by the cold.
Sasuke built the fire up making sure that the grate
was open enough to let as much heat in as possible without allowing any of the
burning embers to start a fire outside the hearth.
“Naruto, I am sorry I ate all the food and didn’t
feed you.” He said, regretting that the small man had gone almost three days
without eating, he couldn’t afford to miss meals. “Why didn’t you say
something?” He asked. When they had stopped for gas he had bought snacks and
ate them in the car in front of the blonde. He didn’t offer, but the blonde
never asked.
“What should I have said?” Naruto asked innocently.
I don’t really have money so…”’
“Shut up.” Sasuke said as he turned to leave the
cabin.
“Hey Bastard,” Naruto called.
“Hn”
“What’s your name?”
“Sasuke” He answered honestly for the first time in
years.
After a long pause as Sasuke took a step out the
door Naruto called out again.
“Hey Sasuke?”
“Hn”
“What’s a dobe?”
“You are” he said and quickly closed the cabin door
behind him.
Long after the beautiful man, his friend had gone
Naruto smiled to himself. Sasuke hum, that is a very pretty name, but then he
is a very pretty man. Soon his body started to defrost and ignoring the pain in
his body and protests in his stomach Naruto drifted off to sleep.
The cabin Sasuke kept in the northern most tip of
Maine was in a secluded area that most people stayed away from. The harsh
weather conditions and sparse industrialization kept most intruders at bay. He
had money weapons and other little necessities hidden in various spots around
the house. Taking his time so that he did not accidentally injure himself
Sasuke visited three of his storage spots. The first held preserves and other
cured meats and bottled water. The second held cash and weapons. He quickly
checked this one to make sure it had not been tampered with the third was where
he kept firewood. Taking as much wood as he could fit into the burlap carrier
that rested on top of the wood and the large bag with food and water in it
Sasuke made his way back to his cabin and the adorable little idiot that was in
it.
What is it about him? Sasuke wondered on his
trek back that makes me feel like I want to protect him, like I want o hold
him in my arms and tell him that it is going to be ok. That is not like me and
that is not life. It is not going to be better and there are no happy endings.
Shaking his head he mused, the blonde is like innocent sunshine bad things
happen to him. I on the other hand am a bad thing and I happen to people.
That brought a cold smirk to his lips as he made his way as quietly as possible
into the cabin.
After he got everything into the cabin he took off
his jacket glad that the large fireplace had quickly warmed the small
well-insulated cabin. Building the fire up once again Sasuke made sandwiches
and preserves put them on two plates and walked over to the side of the bed.
Smiling down at the top of the blonde head that poked out of the covers he
gently ran his fingers through the soft sunshine hair.
“Wake up idiot.” He said, “You need to eat.” Morning
sky colored eyes opened as the cover slipped from a slender shoulder when he
rose and turned to Sasuke. “I have some flannel PJs also I will give you the
top you’re small so they should cover you. I will keep the bottom.” Sasuke
handed the tray to Naruto who dug in heartily as Sasuke fumbled around under
the bed finally standing and handing a large black flannel top to the blonde.
“That is the bathroom.” He pointed to the small door.
“Thanks” the blonde said and with a growl he climbed
out of the cover and the bed.
The small bath had only a toilet and a sink the
toilet flushed but the water had a thin layer of ice on top of it in the
commode. The water that came from the sink was the coldest he had ever felt
that wasn’t ice. I wonder why it hasn’t frozen in the pipes, he
wondered. Looking down at how large the
shirt was on him Naruto wondered, He is slender, muscled yes but slender,
how is this shirt so big on me? The shirt hung almost to his knees well
past his boxer shorts. I wonder how tall he is? When Naruto came from
the bath he had his t-shirt in hand and was wearing the large nightshirt.
Sasuke walked past him on his way out.
“Drink all the water,” he said in passing. “And take
a couple pain killers.”
Naruto noticed his medical supplies on the small
table he hadn’t noticed on the left side of the door. Walking back to the bed
still cold Naruto drank a bottle of water and ate the sweet fruit that Sasuke
had given him with his sandwich. He noticed that Sasuke had eaten and when he
came from the bathroom took the plates and sat them off to the side before
blowing out the lanterns and checking the fire.
When Sasuke pulled back the cover and crawled into
bed with him Naruto was shocked after his foot accidentally came in contact
with Naruto’s Sasuke hissed and pulled the other man to him spooning the
smaller man against him sharing his warmth. The idiot’s feet were like ice.
I guess I knew he was going to sleep here with
me, I mean there is nowhere else to sleep. But I didn’t know he was going to
sleep with me. Naruto lay stiff and unmoving for what seemed like hours
until finally the painkillers and exhaustion forced him to sleep.
Sasuke knew the moment the little blonde fell asleep
because he finally relaxed. Leaning his head forward to inhale the sent of
sunshine Sasuke smiled. Naruto cuddled closer to him in his sleep his small
body conforming to Sasuke’s in its search for heat. Sasuke cuddled the small
man to him enjoying the feel of him innocently rubbing against him and felt his
body respond to the tight ass that pressed against his groin. Growling Sasuke
pulled Naruto closer using the hand he wrapped around his slender waist to
position that little ass more firmly against the erection that threatened to
make an appearance. By firelight he could see the blonde’s shifting had exposed
a slender shoulder and though he thought it foolish he couldn’t stop himself
from trailing his lips across the sun kissed skin.
“Do you taste like the sun too?” He wondered aloud?
“I don’t know” a soft childlike, voice said in awe.
“Do you taste like moonlight?”
“Why would you ask me that?” Sasuke said embarrassed
that his private thought was caught, and that his building erection was obvious
to both of them.
“Because,” Naruto said turning in his arms and
exposing more of his shoulder and chest as he reached up to gently touch
Sasuke’s hair. “Your skin is like beautiful pale moon stone.” Letting his hand
trail slowly down the taller man’s cheek Naruto was amazed that he was allowed
to touch or to lay with such beauty. “I know you went through my stuff.” He
said letting his hand fall between them onto Sasuke’s chest. “So you know.”
“I know that you were the victim of repeated abuse
and violence.” Sasuke said coolly, not willing to gloss over the subject of
Naruto’s past. “I don’t know why.”
“My father was a bad man I guess.” Naruto said
looking at his hand on the beautiful man’s chest wishing the wife beater was
not there to interrupt his contact with pale skin. “My mother’s family was, or
is, very prominent in my town. My father was a… I don’t know what he was all I
know is that he rapped her and it didn’t come out until she got pregnant. When they
caught my father he said that he never rapped her that she had said that she
was going to marry him, that she loved him. My mother said he was a liar and
because she was a little younger than him, he was 18 she was 17 he was found
guilty of statutory rape violent sexual assault corruption of a minor and a
bunch of other things. He was sent to jail and he killed himself in jail before
I was born.
“When I was born my mother never even looked at me,
she died within three minutes of my birth. I was given my father’s name and
sent to an orphanage. But everyone knew who I was, I was named after the town
villain. My father he was a horrible person, and I am the seed of the demon. I
killed my mother, who was loved by everyone. That’s what I was told all my life.
When I turned 14 the orphanage said they no longer wanted me on site that I was
a menace. I was emancipated and that
was when the beatings that I got from the adults and children of the town
turned into… turned into… They changed.”
The site of his hand on Sasuke’s chest fascinated
him the sight of the strong hand holding his. Bringing it to pale lips
astounded him.
“Why would you do that?” Naruto asked confused. “I
am dirt, no less than dirt because dirt is earth and earth gives life. You
shouldn’t…”
“They were trying to kill you, and the adults and
people of the town, they just turned away, ignored it. The last time you almost
died, but a visiting doctor saved your life.”
“Yes… Tsunade… she saved me.” Naruto said. “But she
should have let me die. Everyone…”
“If you had died then I would have been killed the
other night.” Sasuke said simply. “Maybe you should have died.”
“No!” Naruto said firmly. “If my life was what saved
yours… then… then… I have to live as long as I can. So I can always be around
to protect you.”
The gleam in those innocent blue eyes pulled at
Sasuke’s heart. How was it that an innocent, a good person, could care so much
about him?
Pulling the blonde into his arms Sasuke murmured
against the sunshine hair. “Tomorrow I will tell you the truth about me, and we
will see how your thoughts change.
Snuggling against his beautiful Sasuke Naruto knew. I
don’t care what you did. I will never have anything but love in my heart for
you. For the first time in his life Naruto fell asleep and slept peacefully.
He felt secure and… almost… loved. I couldn’t be in heaven because I am a
demon. He thought. But Heaven can’t be better than this.
