Sasuke wakes in Oto, the hidden village of Sound. There, he finds unexpected interest from various people. Orochimaru wishes to claim Sasuke as his own...shall he?

Despairing plight of a sun and moon
Waking
Chapter One, Sasuke...by Taes.
Smoke in my eyes; a pale face with gray hair and wide silver eyes. Cunning teeth, hidden by savage lips in an archer’s smile. Everything about her is washed in fog...She smiles, and a tiny melody seems to escape those two fleshy lips...
She opens her mouth, “hey,” she greets.
I look her over again. “...hey...” I return with a raise of eyebrows, a tilt of my head.
“You wanna practice?” she lets the word roll from her tongue, as though eternity herself dictates the saying of it.
I run my eyes around her smooth lines, curves of soft and feminine grace. She is no demon; there’s nothing special about her. Not like hi—
I shrug. “Sure.”
Might as well...for only practice can get me better. Only it can get me out of that man’s league...above him—so far up I can’t—
I look at the gray girl, and smirk a little. There are only two possible reasons she’s playing me up...either she likes my face...
...or...
“You’re the Seed, aren’t you?” she asked. A smile glimmers on her colorless face, and music haunts her voice.
I don’t reply. She already knows the answer...All at once, laughter breaks the spell, and then it’s all me, breaking her, filling hearts with fear.
For that is my purpose.

do you know me?
have you heard my name?
...i am all you think me to be,
a unique face in a collection
of similar features.
strong.
beautiful.
weak.
Damned.
do you know me?
i think you do.

Orochimaru’s laughter is fierce, it is delicate, and it winds its way into my heart...like a faintly flowered vine, blooming closely to a window. It will climb up, then it will creep in, until finally?
It cracks.
“Let me tell you a story...of a boy, hardly more than twelve, who found his path in darkness...”
no response.
“...oh, have you heard it?” my voice is flat on the cold stone.
My words are lost on Kabuto’s metallic, reflecting eyes. But his ears catch the vague syllables—so that his lips twitch. “Ahhh, Sasuke-kun...” he murmurs, “I don’t believe I’ll miss your chatter...”
As though we talked.
“Don’t scoff, Sasuke. It’s unbecoming.”
My heart races as the ceremony is set before me...the medical instruments arranged, the seals written and the candles lit. There, in the dim light, I can’t see the sweat on my hands...but I can feel it.
I want to bite my lip, tear my fingers, shuffle my feet. But nothing good could come of that, no, nothing at all...showing nerves now wouldn’t do anyone good. Least of all
me.
I tap my fingers on my arm, and my breath comes evenly—I train very diligently, you see—so there is no sign of my anxiety...Next to me, Kabuto refrains from smiling—keeping even the slightest tilt from pale lips. I my memory, I see his grin form in a sly manner that only I (and perhaps Orochimaru) can read.
Breathe.
My eyes close, and in the darkness, I see a brilliant, tantalizing blue light...eyes, gently tilted and smoothly shaped...framed by three lines bellow, like whiskers. Topped with golden flame.
My breath comes out like the hiss of a snake, and ever so gently, I lower my shields as Kabuto stands ready.
We wait.
There’s an eerie glint in his eyes as he looks at me, and his mouth moves woodenly. “I apologize, Sasuke...” he moistens his lips, “for any pain...
“...but you’re no longer needed.”
Regretably, everything draws black.

The next moment, it seems—though my internal clock tells me it’s been at least an hour—comes with a shocking revelation.
My eyes are not my own.
A presence enters me with a quiet shift of air—hssss—while the feeling ripens to an acute split of bone from flesh (so it seems) while I scream silently
in my
head.
But worst of all—more terrifying than not being able to lift my gaze—there’s this awful manifestation of power in the pit of my heart—huge, horrifying, and tinged with the gold-green of a demon snake’s underbelly. Dormant, but not for—
Rolling laughter, self-glorifying pride and a thirst for—
Sasuke...the word seems to spill into all that is me, filling crevices I’d never imagined to exist. It is warm at first, like a caress so pleasant from a loved one, or honey-colored sunlight on my hair.
Soon, however, my whole being registers what it is...and fire—like the oily seal burned into my skin—consumes everything.
Time passes. I know nothing.

My eyes flit, and I curl my fingers. He doesn’t notice.
So at last, I begin to make sense of things. Such pride! I’ve never known anyone to be so arrogant...
not even me.
He speaks. Oh, dear one...the words become my existence, and quickly all fades with pain.
What did you expect? This is the cost of power, my darling little doll...
but think...
your beautiful form will lend itself to eternity, and knowledge will grow a thousand-fold.
I would sob, if the option were left to me...for whose fault is it?
Mine.
And that is what remains (truly appalling)...
But my line is not that of cowards. I shift my thoughts to daggers with points of diamond strength.
No.
but I am not strong
enough.
That biting, gnawing and terrible pull of him on me, the strong thirst for power...this was pressed into the very essence known to me as I, but what
—below the heaven, above the hells—
can I do?
He has me in his grasp. Eons of numb darkness and lightning streaks of pain mark my existence, and I realize that—just behind the door—that tiny glimmer of light isn’t just what it seems.
Look, closely now, and see it...
...the glint of a dagger
flashing through the air.
I can see
only glimpses.
...
...
Orochimaru—demon, snake-lord and manipulator that he is—pulls my body along as easily as a lady may pluck harp-strings, just as
I
catch
it.
The dagger in my hand, as Orochimaru merely leaned away from it. It surely looked as though my body is of two minds...
The thought jerks laughter
from my lips, and
the illusion cast about my face
fades...leaving me,
with a snake
in my belly.
After all this, like an angry child snatching back a half-broken toy, Orochimaru seizes me—my soul?—with vicious hatred, and paralyzing strength. Immediately, I feel as though my whole existence was nothing more than flashes of torture, but thoughts drift through...
His name passes my lips, silently...
Well... amusement flickers past gold-slitted eyes, and I have the strange sensation of pride in me, with my exquisite features (by no fault of mine) and sharp mind.
Aren’t you clever, Sasuke...the sickening satisfaction I get from those.words. is enough to shatter any self-respect I once had.
I hide myself as bet I can, but hose (eyes) are always watching (me).
. : . ~ : ~ . : . ~ : ~ . : . ~ : ~ . : .
Regret.
I am filled with it.
When I next come to (waking), I see a barrage of faces closing in...seeing me, not knowing that I as Uchiha, see them. Their eyes are all for Orochimaru...I can see it, in the way they hold their mouths—stiffly—and the way they offer nods of respect. Of course, in the novice’s cases, dirt-grubbing bows could not suffice.
They cowered.
And Orochimaru pays it no more mind than a child might.
What...a curiosity, that little ones who have paid me no mind, days past...and now, they act as though I am the sun, the stars,
the moon.
What is of it? What for it, but nothing of golden eyes and—
Gray as smoke, she fills my vision. Beautiful like a glass of water, like a well-sharpened knife, she strikes me at once as a cool reflection of moon-beams...
“Sasuke,” she breathes, and flicks her cheek—oh so slightly—to the side, “no,” pouting lips like an archer’s bow, “my Lord Orochimaru.” And her eyes laugh at my plight. She cocks her head and that pretty gray cheek catches the shadow, her whole face in flowing folds of black. “How becoming you are...”
I would roll my eyes or turn aside.
But Orochimaru...the silken snake in my skin, allows a bird’s chortle of a laugh to break the silence. Smoothly, beautifully, gracefully, he moves to her side.
The gray girl swallows lightly.
Orochimaru leans in closer, touches her soft, smoky hair. “Girl...” he begins, letting my pretty face melt into sight (behind golden eyes, but of course). He beacons her closer, and she comes.
Heart in her throat.
I can barely feel my hands on her shoulders, her chest, hear her moan into my ear—what soft lips—as I finally press our mouths together in an engaging, deep kiss.
She gasps as I withdraw, not only for pleasure, but for terror, too...his demon, snake-like tongue rests still in her mouth, wrapping around her tongue in a strange, revolting game...
Then it snakes away, folding into the cave where my voice is housed...
...and I wonder...
“Don’t forget, doll,” Orochimaru purrs,
I wonder
...did he take her heart?
Orochimaru smiles, slow and smooth. “I am who I am.”
did he take her heart(?)
from that lonely, darkened hole...
her face is as pale as mine,
and her lips tremble.
I sigh to myself, unheard.
...she doesn’t taste...
...not like him.
my heart. stops.

Next time: Naruto. broken wings
Credit where it's due: this is a rewrite of the LJ community “nsn_roundrobin.” Anyways, this is from the “serious, plot-driven story.” So, Waking is a blend of LJ user etsumilau's “Icha Icha Paradise” (Chapter One), and LJ user blck_hyacinth's “Infection” (Chapter Two). Seeing that I wrote the third chapter (which some of you may or may not have read), I couldn't let my section of the story stand still...so, being the bored kid I tend to be, I wrote. Please note, though, that this is largely new prose, with some quotes from our celebrated author's chapters. While there is a huge emphasis from their works on the first ten sections (25 pages or so), it is primarily my words, and not stuff you've read. So, don't forget to follow the Main RR's progress, `cause we're going completely different directions, I'm sure. XD
...thoughts?
