Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Alright, a few things before we get started. I’m Keaira. My girlfriend, Seiaa, and I will be writing this fic. It’s Uchihacest. That means Itachi/Sasuke. That means brother loving brother. Don’t like that? It would probably be best if you left now.
Those of you that are left? Yay! ^^ I love you. This fic is being jointly written by Seiaa and I, and we’re alternating chapters. This means that this first chapter is written by me, the second by her, and so on. So if you notice two different writing styles, that probably explains things. We’re mostly doing this for fun, as it’s based off of an RP that we did a few weeks ago, and we hope you enjoy it.
Warnings: This fic is AU. As it starts, Sasuke is twelve, but he’ll be much older before anything romantic happens. Just thought I’d explain that before we got into things. Also, we’re using our own interpretation of vampires here. We’ll be happy to take suggestions from reviews, but please, nothing telling us we’re portraying vampires wrong.
Oh, and the characters might be a little OOC, but that’s alright because a) We say so ^^ and b) because it’s an AU anyway, so things are bound to be a little different.
All that said, enjoy the fic, and please, let us know what you think!
Itachi shook his head, tossing dark hair out of his eyes as he glanced up at the clock on the wall. Just as he thought.
"Sasuke! You’re going to be late!"
Sasuke appeared at the top of the stairs as Itachi finished making his lunch. The older of the two turned down the top of the brown paper bag and presented it to Sasuke, who held his hand out for it. Itachi pulled it back a bit with a smirk, keeping it just out of the smaller brother’s reach.
"You’re such a girl, Sasuke. How long did you spend in front of the mirror this morning?"
The dark-haired boy scowled, but sported a smirk that threatened to turn into a playful smile as he snatched his lunch from his older brother. "Shut up. And you can stop fixing my lunch, idiot. I can buy it at school."
"I like making it," Itachi replied easily, walking into the other room. "Your bag’s on the counter," he called over his shoulder.
Sasuke grabbed his bag and followed him. "Would you wait for me?!"
Chuckling, Itachi snatched his keys off of the hook on the wall and opened the door, holding it open for Sasuke and making an unavoidable comment about Sasuke being too slow to wait for. Sasuke walked out and headed for his bother’s car, which was really only the spare car that their father let Itachi drive to and from work. Driving Sasuke to school was a secret between the two of them, and something that their father wouldn’t have approved of.
Itachi unlocked the doors and got in, waiting for Sasuke to do the same before starting the car. He looked over his shoulder as he backed out of the driveway, and didn’t look at his brother again until they were on the road.
Sasuke was still, peering out of the side window with a blank expression on his pale features. At twelve, the boy was strangely mature for his age, but such maturity had its downfalls. Itachi had been the same way until his brother had gotten older and he had been overcome with a strange need to break Sasuke of his own habits. Such a cold view of the world had a tendency to drive away friends and inspire loneliness, and Itachi didn’t want Sasuke’s adolescent years to be the trial that his own had been.
Eyes back on the road, Itachi murmured, "What are you and your friends going to do today?"
Sasuke’s response was soft, and his eyes didn’t move from their constant gaze on the outside scenery. "We’re staying late for a project. You’ll tell father for me…?"
Itachi nodded and spared a glance away from the road in an attempt to encourage his brother to continue.
"…I hope those stupid girls leave me alone."
That comment brought a genuine grin to Itachi’s features. "Trouble with girls following you around? I had the same problem. You know, your birthday’s coming up. They’re all going to want to be invited."
"Well, none of them are getting invited."
"Not even that one that you’re friends with?"
"Which one?"
"The pink-haired girl. Is that her natural color, by the way?"
Sasuke ignored the second question and responded slowly to the first. "I tolerate her, but she gets annoying. So no, she‘s probably not getting invited."
Itachi couldn’t help a small snort. "You tolerate her. How charitable of you, Almighty Sasuke. Perhaps someday you’ll grace her with a smile."
His brother smirked at him and played along. "Perhaps."
Stopping at a streetlight, Itachi shifted his seatbelt. He only wore one when Sasuke was in the car, in a vain attempt to set an example, but he doubted Sasuke actually paid that much attention to what he was doing. "Do you have anything special planned for your birthday? You’ll officially be a teenager. Big event, right?"
"Not really." Sasuke’s gaze returned to the window in disinterest.
"Well, maybe I could take you and a few friends to that new amusement park."
Just as Itachi had expected, it was a rare twelve-year-old who could resist an amusement park. Sasuke’s eyes were back on him in an instant. "Really? Would Father allow that?"
The light turned green, and Itachi started driving again. "I’ll take care of it. If you really want to go, that is."
Itachi got his answer in the form of a rare hug from his younger brother, and he laughed, batting the boy away playfully with one hand. "Stop that! I’m driving!"
Sasuke sat back in his seat, then picked his bag up out of the floorboard as Itachi pulled up to the school.
"Make sure you have everything," Itachi said, eyes flicking purposely down to Sasuke’s lunch, which was still resting on the floor by his feet.
Rolling his eyes, Sasuke reached down, scooping up the bag and opening the door.
"Call my cell phone when you’re ready to come home," Itachi added, remembering that Sasuke had to stay late for a project.
Sasuke nodded and got out of the car. "See you later."
Itachi waved as Sasuke closed the door, and watched in amusement as the boy was swarmed by girls and a certain obnoxious blonde as he walked up the steps to the front doors.
Once Sasuke was inside the building, Itachi pulled away from the school and headed home. He still had a good thirty minutes before he had to get to work, and decided that a quick nap was in order. He pulled back into the driveway of their home, parked the car, and got out, pocketing his keys and walking through the door, which he had left unlocked.
When he walked into the living room, however, he found his father sitting on the couch watching television. I thought he was still asleep…
The man looked up when Itachi walked into the room, expression vaguely annoyed. "You’re going to be late for work if you keep driving Sasuke to school every day. From now on, let him walk."
Itachi hid his surprise at having a secret between brothers revealed, and instead focused on keeping his expression neutral. That was usually the best way to avoid a fight. "I make it on time just fine."
"From now on, he’ll walk."
Itachi clenched his fists, fighting back a familiar wave of anger. "There’s no point in making him cross that busy intersection when I can drive him."
The man looked at Itachi, seeming to sense his anger. Itachi sometimes imagined that his father wanted to make him angry, because it was a convenient excuse for the way his own temper flared, and the actions he took after it did so.
"You will do as I say."
"Whatever."
Itachi brushed past him to go to his room. He had given up on his nap, but he still needed to change clothes. He was stopped when a tight hand closed around his arm, jerking him back. Itachi stumbled back, and braced himself for what he knew was coming.

Itachi pulled up to the front of the school and put the car in park, then leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes for a moment. He grimaced as he realized that his lip was bleeding again, and hastily licked it, hoping to get rid of the blood before Sasuke saw it.
He looked up as his younger brother came walking down the front steps of the school, all pale skin and dark hair, looking innocent despite himself. Itachi’s chest clenched and he cursed his father for what felt like the hundredth time that day.
Damn him… that intersection’s a fucking death trap…
Sasuke jogged over and Itachi reached across the passenger seat, unlocking the other door and pushing it open. "How did the project go?"
"It was alright," Sasuke replied absently, then paused, door halfway closed, as he looked at Itachi. "What the hell happened to you?"
Itachi put a hand self-consciously to his lip and sighed in annoyance when he found blood on his fingers. "Don’t say ‘hell.’ And it’s nothing."
"You’re such a bad liar." Sasuke leaned across his seat, brushing some of the blood off of Itachi’s lip with his thumb, expression perplexed.
"I ran into trouble at work."
Sasuke gave him a skeptical look, but didn’t comment further. They’d had this discussion before, and it always ended the same way: Sasuke annoyed and pouting-- though he would never admit that that was what he was doing-- and Itachi lost in one of his darker moods.
Itachi pulled out of the parking lot after Sasuke had buckled his seatbelt, and after a few moments of driving in silence, murmured, "I can’t drive you tomorrow."
Sasuke blinked in surprise, forgetting that he was supposed to be sulking. "What? Why not?"
"Father says that you need to walk so I can get to work on time."
"He’s a bastard. I like riding with you."
"Don’t say bastard, either."
"What about that intersection?" Sasuke looked at his brother, expression even. He wasn’t the type to show worry. Not for himself, at least. He knew, however, that Itachi would worry about him. Only a few months ago, one of Sasuke’s classmates had been killed crossing that intersection. They needed a crossing guard.
Itachi stopped at a light, expression troubled. "How about I start leaving early and wait for you around the corner?"
"You’ll have to get up earlier."
"I don’t mind."
Sasuke turned his gaze to the window. "Alright. …Thank you."
Smirking, Itachi reached over and ruffled Sasuke’s hair. "Anything for my adorable wittle brother."
Said adorable "wittle" brother pushed his older brother’s hand away, holding back a smile.

Streetlights passed over the car, seeming unnaturally bright in the dark. Itachi squinted as eyes adjusted to the dark were assaulted by the abrupt brightness moments before it disappeared behind the car. A sudden noise caught his attention, and he looked into his rearview mirror just in time to watch his hubcap roll lazily off of the road.
"Great. Just great."
He took the next turn and pulled to the side of the road, getting out of his car, locking it, and walking back the way he came, envisioning various forms of torture that could be used against whoever had loosened his hubcap.
He squatted down at the curb, picking up his wayward car part, then slowly straightened with a tired sigh. He started back for the car, running a hand through his bangs, oblivious to the pair of glowing eyes that had begun to follow him. In fact, he remained oblivious until two suspiciously strong hands latched onto his shoulders, yanking him back and shoving him against the brick wall of a nearby building.
Glowing red eyes peered at him through the darkness, curiosity glinting behind them. "You almost look like one of my kind."
Itachi was still trying to blink the stars out of his vision. His impact with the wall had left his head spinning, and he was fairly sure that he was bleeding. He tried his best to get a good look at his assailant, vaguely remembering that a description could be useful if he survived, but the streetlights that had been so intent on blinding him earlier seemed to have conveniently decided to abandon their cause, leaving him completely in the dark. Itachi’s muddled brain decided that blaming them seemed to be the best course of action until he could properly see the bastard attacking him.
"Damn streetlights… who the hell are you?"
From the slant that the eyes had taken, Itachi assumed that his assailant had just tilted his head.
"Not all there in the head, I assume." The man’s voice was slick, and it seemed to slither over Itachi’s skin, prickling lightly. "But very beautiful." He shoved Itachi harder against the wall, and this time his head made an audible crack as it hit the bricks. "I bet you’re delicious."
Pain lanced through Itachi’s head and he found himself unable to focus on the words the man had spoken. He tried to say something, to tell him to leave him alone, but all thought left his mind as his head was shoved to the side and a wet tongue ran over his neck, right above his pulse.
Itachi’s body finally snapped into action as his brain supplied disturbing images of what was probably about to happen to him. He kicked out at his assailant’s legs, but found it to be as if he had just kicked the brick wall behind him. He felt the impact through his shoe, and was dazedly certain that he had probably just hurt himself more than his attacker. An amused laugh sounded near his ear.
"Be still."
Like hell…
That was his last thought before he felt a sharp pain as something stabbed into his neck, then the warm swell of blood springing up from the wound. A drop ran down his neck, but was quickly licked away as a pair of lips fastened to the wound.
He cried out in pain and began to struggle, which seemed to only worsen the pain, sending sharp sparks of agony from his neck to the rest of his body.
Relax, and you’ll enjoy it.
Itachi wasn’t aware enough to wonder at the fact that the voice had spoken inside his head, not aloud.
***
There was the soft click of a lock turning before the door of the Uchiha home opened slowly. Itachi stepped inside, dark hair falling in front of his eyes, and pushed the door closed with his foot.
"You’re late. Where have you been?"
Itachi walked past the imposing form of his father, never once looking up. "Hubcap fell off."
The man snorted, leaning back against the wall of the entryway and crossing his arms. "I see. Well, if you’re not home when you’re supposed to be, I may just have to start taking out my frustrations on Sasuke."
Itachi stopped walking, but didn’t turn around. "If you ever touch him… I’ll kill you."
A laugh. "That’s it. As soon as Sasuke gets home from his little friend’s house, he’s getting a taste of what life’s going to be like around here from now on."
In an instant, the man was being held a foot off of the ground, his neck in his oldest son’s grasp. Red eyes peered up at him.
"Thank you… for giving me a reason."
***
Sasuke walked up the steps to his home, reaching into his pocket for his key. After fumbling around a bit with the books in his arms, he put the key into the lock, only to find the door already unlocked. Blinking, he opened it, promptly almost dropping a few of his books. He caught them just in time and kicked the door open the rest of the way with his foot.
The books slipped from his hands a final time and landed on the ground. He didn’t hear the impact. His eyes were trained on his bloody and beaten father, laying on the floor of the entryway, and on his older brother, standing over the man’s body.
Itachi seemed frozen, unconcerned with the body at his feet. All he cared about was the small boy standing in the doorway, looking at him as if he had never seen him.
Sasuke’s eyes flicked from his brother back to his father, and he took a step back. Itachi seemed to come to his senses and moved towards him.
"Sasuke…"
Without a word, Sasuke turned, running back out of the door. He almost tripped over the books he had dropped, but managed to regain his footing and make it down the front steps before strong arms wrapped around his waist, restraining him.
"Let go of me!" He squirmed in his older brother’s hold, unwanted tears springing to his eyes.
He’s afraid of me…
Itachi’s chest constricted painfully, and in one swift move, he knocked Sasuke out. The boy slumped in his arms, dark eyes sliding closed. Itachi picked up the small, limp form, holding him in his arms, and winced at the tears on his little brother’s cheeks.
