Sorry! I came back to add: I read the other reviews and your response, but I'm still a little confused on how we're meant to see these characters in relation to the canon characters. AUs take the characters as we know them but drop them in another setting, so their looks and personalities stay the same. However, this is canon universe, not AU, and these characters look and act differently from the ones we know. Does that mean these are totally original characters and NOT the same people from the manga? It's just the characters having the same names makes you expect them to be the same, but they actually seem not to be the same. (Are our canon characters reincarnations of the people in this story...?)
Sorry for all the questions. I really like this fic and think it's a fresh take on the manga source material. I'm just trying to understand the context of the fic is all.

Okay, I officially love this story. I really enjoyed how you wrote this chapter. It's well done, and I read it a bit fast because I wanted to read it, but I didn't catch any errors the first read-through. Okay, so, wow, Naruto is as young as I thought... At first the character you made for Sasuke threw me off guard, I guess because in all fanfics he is done as cold, aloof, etc. It's interesting to see a different characterization of him.

For once, Naruto has the stiff, serious young master personality, while Sasuke is the carefree, free spirited one. Looks like there's more to Sasuke than meets the eyes if he's mysteriously promising he'll meet Naruto again someday. He's also a bit cleaner than Naruto expected for a street whore. (If he really is a street whore, that is.) The obvious conclusion is that Sasuke is the assassin Naruto is looking for, but would Naruto have so much good luck as to be able to run into him this easily?

It was definitely a beginning that left me interested enough to hope for another chapter! I find Naruto's acceptance of Itachi a little disturbing...as if he thinks it's pleasurable because that's the way he's been wired. The whole slave mentality thing. I, too, am confused by how old he's supposed to be. I agree, that by the you describe his body, it's hard to think of him as more than thirteen or fourteen, or around there. Overall, I would really like to read chapter two, so I will be checking up on this from time to time, hoping for an update :)

This is really interesting so far. I'm really liking it. It's refreshing to see a story with as much detail as yours. I love how you've created your own little world, and how mysterious the first chapter appears to be. I can't wait for more.

It's good so far. Initially I'd decided to pass this story up because the summary said it was a prequel to the manga, and that didn't make sense unless you were writing about Naruto's very early childhood. Then I understood once I started the story and read this takes place 500 years before the founding of Konoha. (You might want to add that info to the summary in case anyone else was confused like me?)
I like what I've read so far. This is a nice, different take on the events of the manga. Instead of Itachi slaughtering his clan, he was one of the victims as well. (Supposedly, if the story he told Naruto was the truth.) It was a surprised in the manga that Itachi killed his clan as part of a conspiracy, but it's no longer a surprise in fic. We've all read the manga, we already know about it by now. Orochimaru as the culprit is a new twist on things. I also like the idea of Itachi with a scarred face. It makes him a little more human than the legendary genius bishounen he's supposed to be. (But I was surprised about the green eyes. Did you change just his eye color, or his looks as well?)
Naruto sounds pretty well under Itachi's thumb. The sex sounded painful if Itachi was holding him down and Naruto even bled afterward, yet Naruto seemed to think it was enjoyable (and that the taste of Itachi's burned skin isn't so bad either). Right now it looks like it will take a lot for Naruto to fall for someone else. It will be enjoyable watching Naruto break out of his slave's mentality. BTW, how old is Naruto? The way you were describing his body, it made it seem like he's 12 or younger, but the way he was talking to Itachi had a great deal of maturity to it. But I can't imagine Itachi would assign a 12 year-old to hunt and kill an experienced assassin, not if it means Naruto's failure could end up costing Itachi his life. So I was confused on whether the character is a child or a teenager.
Hope you continue writing this. :)
