Reviews for Rhythm & Bruise: Gaara's Story

You know how every now and then you find an author who you just love?

Like, if you had your way, they would be chained to a computer and forced to write all day long. So they could post every day.

You have become one of those people to me.

This might not mean much to you, but there are only a few people like you. Really in all of internet-land, with the (literally) thousands of stories I've read, written by just as many authors; you are now in a group of about eight.

There are plenty of authors I like, don't get me wrong. But there are only a few who I would read anything they wrote, on the simple virtue of the fact that they wrote it. Even pairings I don't like, venues I'm not familiar with, and trusting in their power to write decent OC's. And if any of them ever wrote a book IRL... I'd read it.

Love, I would go to a bookstore and buy your book.

This doesn't mean I'm going to hunt you down and chain you to your computer. Although, hot. But I'm neither a creepy stalker or crazy. Much, anyway.

This is just me telling you that I like your work. A lot.

    This was.. poetic.

Beautiful and arousing and somehow heart rending at the same time.

My head is filled with images and.. well.. love for you. *heh*

I love your other work. But this... you took it to a level here. Deep.

Ok, I honestly don't know what happened....

But the above review (by "Anon") that began with "I think" and ended with this story being the best piece.... was my review. Something happened when I went to review, it sent me back to the login page. I hope that you know that it is me and not an anonymous reviewer because of what I said about an earlier review.........

    I think.....

I honestly had to take some time to process this before I reviewed. This chapter was reminiscent of the first as I heard rhyme and rhythm in the beginning. The beginning of the chapter was so beautifully poetic that is was almost painful to read. I'm so conflicted with this review because I don't no where to actually "begin" and not sound cryptic or jumbled or get lost in translation. But I guess I will continue with this point, but I so desperately want to save some of it for the end but.....

Anyway, as with your opening chapter I felt like I was in a black and white film with splotches of color appearing here and there. But this time, there was the feeling of extreme heat. I felt like I was in the 50's and it was an extremely hot summer night. The splothes of color were a pink 50's style radio with the old taupe buttons and of course the red of the aces and diamonds on the cards in the game the boys were playing. Oohhh and with the deep drawl of Kiba's voice in the background just set the tone which made this world so very vivid and alive. It's almost like I don't have the WORDS to explain what I felt and saw when I read this chapter. From beginning to end it was uttertly poetic. This chapter was pure, raw, and perfection. Call me a Romantic if you will, but this chapter is exactly what I was reminded of, the Romantics; the Dark ones actually.

Again, your use of words, imagery, and tone is nothing short of amazing. In my first review for another story of yours I alluded to the fact that I can understand that even though people may not be into the BDSM scene or your choice of plot and content; I can respect that. We all have our taste. However, NO ONE can take away from the fact that you are an extremely talented writer and your prowess, at least in my eyes, is up there with some of the greats. Call me a book worm, but some of my favorite writers are Oscar Wilde, Anne Rice, Thomas Mann, Poe, Gide, Nietzsche, Kafka, C.S. Lewis, Toni Morrison and Anthony Burgess. I appreciate them for their attention to detail, description, plot, characterization, thier ability to take the reader outside of themselves as well as their talent for using words to their fullest extent, and their ability to make the reader think. They also create beautiful, decadent, abstract, and often painful worlds where the reader cannot help but get drawn into because of the writers passion for the story which is evident through their choice of words and attention to detail. You my dear possess all of these qualities as a writer. (Am I sounding like a crazed fangirl here? Or just a major fan as I am of the above writers?)

There is more I wanted to say, I just cannot remember it all. But I know that I wanted to definately tell you that hands down this chapter is definately......

THE BEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF FANFICTION I HAVE EVER READ!

Excuse the writing wich is about to come, I'm writing this from an iPod:p

Hi just wanted to say that this is a really good story you got going on here...the 4th chapter was my fav so far, cuz the way you made all the people linked together through the radio, was very creative and unusual :p

At the beginning I was a bit annoyed with all the ocs in the story, and would have preferd you using "real" characters, but I really like this story so I'm trying to...accept them.
its nothing personal I just have a bit difficulty dealing with ocs XD

Oh and you've manage to get gaaras personality down to the spot! Which is awesome!
he's not my fav, but he sure is climbing up the list thanks to you XD

    Chapter 4

Ah, so Gaara will be with Kiba... Will Kiba be dom for Gaara? This will be so interesting :)

But the beginning of the chapter 4 was disturbing and well... it was disturbing...was that woman raped?

And all those lines about the fate was so depressing.

I really didn't like the beginning... but the rest of the chapter is really awesome and I just can't wait for more :)

There are really no words for how much I love your fiction and Gaara's story is no different. I'm eagerly awaiting each wonderful chapter and it's making me want to draw him like you wouldn't believe. I've read many stories since I first found this site around 2004-2005 and though many have been great very few have inspired me enough to want to bring a little life to them by drawing the characters. Up until now there has only been one that has inspired me that much.

Keep up the great work and should I manage to get that drawing done, I will be sure to let you know.

    Hmmmm

I didn't get a chance to review this when you first posted.

I don't know if this counts as a review, but I will tell you what I "saw" when I read chapter 1

I saw boys in a vintage car. This live picture was in black and white. There was an occassional splotch of red and electric blue. The boys were dressed in black and white horizontal stripped shirts. I guess I've been watching too many Quintin Tarrentino movies. Anyway, the funny thing is, I heard music. Almost a symphony of melodies. It was all instrumental. The reasons being..... Your words were almost rythmic and melodic in this chapter. I even went back and read it a second time out loud and there was a definite rythym. Whether you meant this or not, it was there. Chapter one was definately poetic, poetic chaos because of the plot in that chapter. The even scarier thing was my earlier observation of Gaara from the scene in Undercurrents. Though COMPLETEY different from the character in Clockwork, there is a scene in the movie where Alex and his boys are flying "high" in a stolen vintage car living it up! I freaked myself out by making that connection having never read your story and then reading it.

You have such an amazing way with words and although I am not a fan of Gaara, you've made his story here an interesting one, such that I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Chapter 2 had such a different tone. The melody was gone, but the tone was none the less dramatic. I was a bit sad that Paint died. And Gaara inheriting money was a bit surprising as also his involvement with Haze????? I can't wait to see how he gets to know the boys and whether or not you follow through with the manga "cannon" relationship with Naru. I also cannot wait to see who you pair him with, since most of his usual pairings are taken already. At least the ones that I've seen, but then again, I don't usually follow his stories too much.

I truly hope this story gets more of a following in the future. And I hope it doesn't take "smut" to get the reviewers to come out of the woodworks. That is just tragedy to me!

    I look forward to more!
